hi, i finished the book about 1 hour ago, and i can tell you it's friggin epic!
The book tells the story of how marcus becomes friends with carlos, and basically follows them through school and then into the COG.
helena stroud is a strict sarge during operation leveler, she is anya strouds mother in case you didnt know, i'm trying not to give away too much, but you will no doubt know carlos dies at the end, since the book is based on him.
the book tells you a lot about marcus as a character, his dad adam fenix, didnt want him to goto the COG, but marcus had to follow his best friend carlos, and because he knew it was right. adam fenix lied about marcus's mum, saying she ran away. which separated them quite a lot.
dom actually is in a different team to marcus and carlos, dom was training to be a commando, and operation leveler is a mission to steal the knowledge to build the "hammer of dawn" which im sure you know what that is.

This book was sooooooo well written!!! A must for any Gears fan, as well as answering so many questions it presents a few too..... Chew on this.
Every chapter starts with a quote from someone, in the first and last chapters the quote is from Queen Myrrah the interesting part is the last one and has given me some sleepless nights pondering the possibilties from its implications.
To summarize, Myrrah says that the locust considered enlisting the humans to fight with them against a common enemy. ??????? She also says that the humans of Sera are blind to this common threat. ???????
Any theories ladies and gents???????

Yeah, that's an easy one. The common enemy the Queen refers to are the Lambent Locust. ;)

I just finished up Aspho Fields. It was definitely well written, but the jumps from pre-E Day to post-E Day was a bit confusing at times, especcially when I'd have to remember what happened before each jump.
It did lead a lot of insight into the UIR and Hammer of Dawn. I would love to see a game based off of the Pendulum Wars and Aspho Fields showed how well it could be portrayed.
