As always, I love to toot my own horn so here's to tooting it:

http://s483.photobucket.com/albums/rr200/servbot001/Gears%20of%20War%20Figures/

Just got done with the Drone Helmet cloning. I must say I'm happy with how it turned out!

Also, that puts my drone list as follows:
4 Straps / 6 Shoulder Pads (not a clue which have which as I tried to spread em around)
2 Snipers
1 Sniper w/ Goggles on Brow
1 Full Face Helmet w/ Shotgun
1 Half Face Helmet w/ Lancer (RED LIGHTS! haha...simple paint app)
1 Open Helmet
4 Helmetless/Goggleless Grubs!

My horde is rather large now - 10 grubs, 2 therons advancing on my poor COGs! Also, RAAM is by himself w/ 2 Therons standing by him in a different location.

Next in the pipe is Jace Stratton and Michael Barrick and last but not least, I haven't forgotten about the Wretch project. I may have found a good base figure to save me some trouble, but we'll see!

*makes whooshing sound as he swoops away*

Great stuff, especially with Raam!
Hope to those wretches.

Wow! Those look awesome, I really like the Helmeted Sniper. I actually wanted to do something like that myself but I couldn't quite figure how to get a good mold of the helmet (Got any tips?). Needless to say I gave up and used my extra Sniper head's goggles to rest above one of my Drone's eyes.

well, molding isn't cheap. The solution that I used cost aprrox $70usd for both silicone mold rubber and high performance casting resin. The helmet mold I made is toast - you learn things as you go along and sadly, I didn't have the below link when I made it...heh.

I've got one of those snipers w/ goggles on the brow too :) Check out the horde pic!

Also, the head on the helmeted sniper is actually the sniper head I jacked the goggles off of. The goggles he has are 100% sculpt too :)

I still kinda wanna give it a shot but time and money aren't on my side right now. I want at least 2 extra helmets for my grubs cause I have 2 extra heads lying around. Im also still hoping to get around to making a Helmeted Sniper like you did too.

Hahahaha you do. Nice one, seems familiar.

Edit:

Really? Nice! one of my extra heads is a goggless sniper. lol

yeah, the goggles on the brow was probably the first custom I did for my drones. It was easy and I wanted another sniper but not a standard sniper, so viola. Bingo!

I've got a few heads laying around now. Two regular drone heads I believe. I just got my 12 inch Marcus from TRU. He's quite nice. Big and Bulky and loud...but what else would one want? lol.

That's the same story for me.

I wanted the 12" marcus, but I'm waiting on the new one. I like the light up feature over the talking.

Did you see the new GOW figures comming out this month? I'm really stoked about the Grappler and Cyclops. Also I saw on eBay Chainsaw 2-pack is already out.

Also, quick question? How did you go about sculpting the goggles??

I used Milliput (also by Micromark) and a slew of sculpting tools. The set I got probably at Michael's or HobbyLobby, etc years ago. I've got about 7 or so double-sided tools. Each has a purpose, etc etc.

That being said, here's what I did. I made the strap via a standard snake rolling procedure and pressed it into place, followed by flattening it out. After that was set up, I made balls of putty and pressed them into discs using a tool with a flat edge on it. I did that twice, stacking a ball on top of the disc and repeating the the procedure. I took a small edged tool and made little slits, lines, indentions along the strap and goggle bases.

Important thing about milliput - READ the directions..heh. It's necessary for it to sit about 20-25 minutes before sculpting else you have a mess. You can get milliput at hobby shops or online. :)

Oh, and I'll be grabbing the new 12 incher regardless. I picked this one up because I found it. I couldn't justify it with the shipping fees so I figured if I stumbled upon it, yoink!, i'd pick it up.

Cool, thanks for the tips. I think I'll have to try that myself when I get the time.

I was tempted to buy the 12" marcus at FYE but they only had one and it had a broken arm.

i see....i just won a centaur on ebay for 15 bucks! woot!

Yeah, I know it sucks at being an RC car, but we'll see if I can tweak it :)

I got the Centaur at Best Buy with the game. It really is a terrible RC car. It should be an easy tweak though, it'd be nice to see it actually turn.

Cool. Also, when uploading some pics here just a few min ago, I realized that I did take pics of the goggles in their natural green color after I sculpted them. Check out my WIP folder. Also did some work on BYT Marcus yesterday. He's not finished, but he's closer...lol.

Thanks! Always love to hear compliments, complaints, and even that I inspire people. That's what it's all about - our collective love for these figures.
