Gears Of War for Windows Update

I just bought Gears Of War for Windows and tried it. I created an account for the Games for Windows Live and tried to log in so I can save my game and go online. At first it tells me to wait so it can load the profile. Everything's fine. Then it tells me I need to download the update for Gears of War. A screen for the download appears and after a couple of seconds, another screen tells me it can't download the update. I tried to download the update from the Gears of War website but when I go on the game, it still wants to dl the update by itself and fails. If I don't have the update, I can't save my progress and I can't go online. Help me please.

Hey Heroclixer,

Make sure you're installing the right update. You'll get very similar looking messages for game updates and system updates. One talks about an update for the game, the other talks about an update for Games for Windows - LIVE.

I'll assume you've found the latest game update and installed it as your post said. It's possible you're actually failing to install the Games for Windows - LIVE update. You can get that update here:

Close the game and then click on "Download the Latest Update" from the page above.

This is the latest release of Games for Windows - LIVE (2.0.675) which includes our Games for Windows - LIVE client in addition to the functionality used within Gears of War.

If that doesn't fix your problem, it's possible you do need a Gears of War update and that you just found an old Gears of War update (rather than the latest one). I'm not positive what the definitive source for that would be so rather than guess I'd suggest you go look around a bit and see if you can find it from another location.
