Because the bullets hit some seconds after you release the shots

because the only way to hit anyone with the shotgun is if they are standing still

because the game autoaims for you after a melee so they can play longer without tired thumbs.

Because after a melee there is enough damage for an insta-kill and it's an easy target too because melees stun people for 2 seconds. It's the perfect cheap kill.

It is a grossly effective method in many situations. However, it is highly connection dependent. If you are not host, it's a tossup as to whether or not your shot will register and net you a kill. If you are host, it's just not needed. Last night I got host on a King of the Hill game and the other team was trying like hell to 2-piece me. Each time I was able to just turn and blast them with one shot. But, that's happened to me a lot too, so it was a nice change of pace for once.

because when you put your shotgun directly into someones back and fire, it rarely kills them

Because it works. Same answer to most any question like this.
Gears 1: "Why all the frag tagging?"
Gears 2: "Why all the wall tagging?"
Gears 1: "Why all the melee?"
Gears 2: "Why all the chainsawing?"
And so on and so forth. The alternative is, of course, stubbornly refusing to do what works and seeing how that works out for ya.

Now that everyone know that hipfiring hit the ground, yeah it's not an excuse anymore, 2piece is the easy kill. But the shootgun can mess up pretty badly even when you aim at gun point, so I would say a safe kill rather than an easy kill.
Sometimes you miss because of bullet lag, but I have seen a few occassions where the shot actually hits their head (you know it hits because there's blood) but it doesn't count as a headshot. I'm not talking about iffy shots but quite clear shots to the forehead and what not.
The only time things feel truly smooth and responsive is when you're host. It's the only time at least when I feel in control of the game. Otherwise it feels like I'm fighting with it to various extents, and that all my actions are of questionable efficacy.

I really don't care If I get 2pieced.If someone is good enough to sneak up on you or even just manage to get near you then you basically deserve to die. That simple. If epic thought 2piecing was cheap or something they would have removed it since everyone knew about it.So why don't you be like every other person in these forums and cry about the godsaw instead?.BTW I'm a proud 2piecer I got 900 gnasher kill's and almost all were 2 piece har har har.
