Hey All,

I'm new to this game, about two weeks and this forum, today. I guess you could say the contest intrigued me to get the game and try my hand at some modding. I must say, there is a lot more to this (UT3ed) than Game Creator I used before and much easier than the WAD level creators I tried out years ago for Doom.

I was lost with the free tutorials over at 3d Buzz (as good as they were) for UT2003/2004 as the editor controls are different with UT3. Then I found a thread from back in September that GameStop had the Special Edition with the tutorials on sale.

Hoping, I drove over and bought their last, local copy (still on sale!). I had half convinced myself the tutorial vids were just going to be a compilation of the work the guys had already done. I'm glad I didn't listen to myself... These are even better, IMHO, than the older ones. Well done, guys!

So, a question I have is this; Which patches are most people using, and which ones are neccessary for the contest?

Thanks, and you'd better get busy, 'cause I'm coming up fast behind 'ya!

(I submitted this in the General Discussion topic but it wasn't getting any action. I really need to know before I start my Mod.) Thanks again!

Newest patch is necessary for the contest.

So mod with the newest patch.

Yup, patch 1.3.

I'm new to mapping myself, and I found the DVD tutorials to be a great starting point. However, once you get more advanced, it becomes cumbersome to have to try and find what you need in DVD format. Here's some incredibly useful tutorials:

All types of tutorials: http://www.ut3modding.com/index.php?page=10
Kismet tutorials: http://www.avld.org/pages/tuts/tuts.htm

Thank you both for the patch info and the tutorial links. I've also been considering to play some on-line and get a feel for what's out there and what seems to work well; gameplay v/s aesthetics. It'll be interesting to see the difference play with humans and all the inherent variables that will present.

I'm not impressed with the bots in the game. I find them either too single-minded (and easy to beat), or else posessing super-human abilities (driving and shooting) and going to areas only when I do- if I choose alternate routes, there they are again- like the computer directs them to bead on me irregardless if they could actually see me or not. I might try to adjust this some in my levels. If possible.

Thanks again!
