Patches?

Okay so I'll finally be getting live next week so my noob question is...Where do you find/get patches and how do they update the game?
Also I know this is off topic but can you set up matches with just friends like private games??? I've played live before at a friends (Rainbow Six 2) and so I know you can create private games is that possible in Gears 2?

When you are signed into live and start the game it will automatically update really fast. Yes, you can have a private match. With friends or bots or both.
