updated gears wont co-op with non live machine. is there a fix?

hello, sorry if this is posted somewhere else, i couldnt find it if is. me and my mate have been playing on coop via system link. i joined xbox live and received the gears2 update. ive since tried to carry on playing co-op via system link but the machines wont connect, i get a message saying the non-xbox live is on an old server or not up to date.

is there a fix or patch that can be run on the older non-NXE/gears updated machine?

Yep, connect your friends Xbox to your internet, quickly sign up a new XBL account, update with the NXE, put in GoW2, update it. Your good to go.
