Can someone please explain.

When i logged into Live today, it asked me to get an update for Gears. Now i got it, and it's cleared my progress on all achievements, locked campaign chapters and characters for online play. I already have the 'Kick 'Em When They're Down' achievement but the counter for it appears and still goes up. It's happening with other achievements too. Basically the whole game has rebooted itself and left me out of my metaphorical pocket. Why has it done this? I cant' access a saved campaign chapter which is 'Hive: Answers' and all the other chapters except 'Tip Of The Spear: Welcome to Delta' are locked. Grr. Why?

OP: You are not the only person this has happend to. I'm sure Epic are looking into the matter at hand. Try looking around the other threads for a rough idea of what to do, and what's going on.

Surely it can tell that if I have the achievements such as Heartbroken i must have done the level? and therefore unlocked it? Jeez, computers can be so stupid.
