Can't download the flashback map pack

I got my copy of GoW2 today and I tryed to download the map pack. I entered the code it was ok but then when I tryed to download it, it said that this item is not avaible from my current location.

Any solution to this :mad:

You didn't provide much detail but I'm having the same problem, probably for the same reason.

I live in Japan with a Japanese XBox but I have a US based XBox Live Profile. I buy Asian releases of games via play-asia.com. My code for GoW2's Throwback Map pack is valid (it processes and takes me to the download options) but it won't download because "it is not available in my current location".

I ran into this on the GoW2 trailer from XBL as well, I wasn't able to download it until I created a Japanese-based XBox Live Silver account and downloaded it that way. It seems that Epic has region-enforcement tied to hardware IPs. I tried to create a Hong Kong based Silver account but got the same error. My download code doesn't work under my Japanese XBox Live Silver account.

Does Epic have any solution to this issue? Can I exchange my current code for a one that will let me download the maps in Japan? Is there any chance that Epic might be able to change some settings on their end or the XBL end to permit my code to download the maps with the current code?

I have a similar problem. I have a U.S. account but now I live in Italy.
My problem is that the percentage of 99% of the flashback map the dawnload stops and is written in Icon "can not download the content. Try following"...But nothing... HELP EPIC! :)

It seems that Epic has region-enforcement tied to hardware IPs. I tried to create a Hong Kong based Silver account but got the same error. My download code doesn't work under my Japanese XBox Live Silver account.
First, it's not Epic, it's Microsoft who maintains LIVE. Second, download code won't work anymore on any account since you used it on your primary account. Code is one-time only.

I assumed it was Epic since the only time I've run into "not available in your location" was with Gears of War 2 content.

The code isn't deactivated yet as it hasn't been downloaded. I've input it on two different accounts, one based in the US and one based in Hong Kong and it processes just fine. The code is verified and I'm taken to the "download now" screen but when I try to do that, it tells me that it isn't available in my location. So the code hasn't been used yet.

ok i had the same problem and i dont know if it was this that fix it or not or if they just fixed the problem today but i freed up some space on my drive. before when i couldnt download i had 1.1G which is more than enough space but i figured it might be like some computers and need to have a certain amount of space to run properly and now i have like 8G. anyway it works for me now!!

I have the same problem. Your country is either on the ban list for 18+ content or not given a rating at all (in which case you get the same message anyway). This also affects downloads for all adult demos like Mortal Kombat, or Duke Nukem.

The only fix to this is connecting to the net through VPN to the US, for example.

That must be what it is, the ratings. Strange that the maps would get caught by this. I wonder if they can be rated as acceptable for all ages or something.

I dont think it's the ratings. It's just that your ISP shows that you are overseas. Think of all the millions of people who are military overseas who get routinely screwed over by this practice. You guys are talking about the map pack. I can't even get my gold lancer! Where can I get a refund for this? Why did I pay for something I cannot even recieve? Are there any upsides to even having an XBL Gold Account? The only thing I can do with it at this point is get some random game vids and play online. Everything else on my account has been disabled. I work for the military in Japan and honestly cannot wait to get to back to the states to get back what I am paying for. I even have a netflix account and cannot stream the movies. Will Epic help on this side of it? Or do I have to call the customer service joke that is microsoft yet again? When most people pay for something and do not recieve it they usually get a refund.

It is a combination of ratings and IP filtering. I can assure you that if you get any game which is not M or 18 rated you will be able to download all the extra content released for it!

It is the same with demos, as I said. Whenever majornelson announces a demo, the countries it is available in are listed. There is usually also a list which says which countries cannot download it. Now if you are not on either list, consider yourself banned anyway.

I keep getting the impression that MS don't really care about anyone living outside the US.

i have a canadian account and am currently in canada. i have checked my IP and it's reported as being canadian, so nothing faulty there.

i am able to download all other available demos, games, whatever. so again, nothing faulty with region.

just these two codes, the map pack and golden lancer, give me that error the same way as the other posters - codes are valid, but the download will not download. i also cannot register that 2-day xbox gold trial (but i'm not so worried about that).

i called ms on monday and they checked the codes themselves, and verified that they are valid. they did not issue me a new code because this problem is new to them as well. they said they had to investigate.

they told me to call back in 3 business days. which was yesterday i guess. but i am waiting til tonight to check back with them. i'll report back if i find out anything good.

MS is kindof a lost cause when it comes to customer support. I decided to contact EPIC themselves and I got a human response. She's been cordial and said that she is going to look into the issue further to try and help us out. I know I can't change MS's XBL practices, but EPIC has always been helpful and good to its fans. Let's hope this gets fixed.

Gears of War was released in Japan and I assume that GoW2 will be as well. At that point there is bound to be mappack codes for Japan available. I'll be happy if I can just exchange my current code for one that will work (although I'd like to be able to use it immediately, of course).

I'm sure that this isn't intentional on EPIC's part and hope that it isn't too hard to fix.

I'm in the Netherlands and have a Dutch account like I'm supposed to have.
I get the region message for both the map pack and the gold lancer. :(

The Netherlands are less uptight than the USA when it comes to adult stuff, so that can't be the reason (like I understand it is in Germany; it usually is).
Besides, the game itself is officially sold over here, so why wouldn't maps and a weapon variant be?

We're an officially supported Xbox Live country, so that can't be the problem either (like I understand it is for South Africa).

I can't imagine any other reason to block the download, at least in supported countries that officially sell the actual game.

Unless it's clearly stated a download is for instance USA or Japan only, I've never had any problems downloading anything.
I feel cheated out of a promised map pack and a special edition bonus I paid extra for. :(
I hope this is just a matter of time...

I still haven't heard back from them on this issue. But in your case that is just downright theft. Why make the extras available at all if you can only get them if you are in the United States? I can kind of understand why mine is blocked, but yours should be completely okay to download.

I highly recommend you use the 'contact us' tab on the bottom of this page and email your issue to them. Also please link this thread in your email. I don't think I am the only one complaining about this but it would help to have more people bringing it up to them. No one can change MS, but EPIC should be able to change their own rules easier.

I was looking for the "Contact Us" in the wrong place, but I'll definitely use it now.

Something I didn't even realize before is that the card with codes tells me I can download the items in Dutch!
I suppose Dutch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_language) is spoken in part of our neighbour Belgium too (no idea if the code works there), but to me Dutch primarily means the Netherlands.
Why even write I can download something in the language of a country that doesn't actually let me download? :)
I can't but call this false advertising...

I asked some colleagues if their codes (regular editions afaik) worked, but they hadn't tried yet.

You can't purchase the codes alone.
For the gold Lancer code you need to buy the Limited Edition.
The map pack code is included in the regular version as well, so if you just want that, you can buy the regular version.

The idea behind not selling the map pack code alone is to discourage people from buying second hand copies.
The gold weapon is a little thank you for buying the special version.

Also, once you enter a code the item is bound to your account.
Even if you lose the code afterwards, you can just download the item again.

I received a code through my Limited Gears 2, downloaded it and it worked - both: map-pack and lancer.

Then my Xbox broke (RRoD) and I got a new console.

Now I can only use the codes with the profile I downloaded them with.

Problem is: I got a gold account only with another profile and the codes don't work with that anymore, though I transfered all of my licenses to the new console.

As if that wouldn't be worth enough, I thought I just have to download the stuff again and deleted my golden lancer. But now I get an error (status code 80070017 or something) when I try to re-download it with the profile I first downloaded it. :(

My guess is that this is connected to the fact that MS set prices for all these items (to fix that downloading exploit via Marketplace on live.Xbox.com). I also was able to download the mappack before 22nd as well as I was able to Bare Your Teeth and Hope Runs Deep themes when they were free. However after themes became priced I get errors when trying to downloading them. Same errors that I get when trying to download Lancer from the download history. So my guess is if the content is age restricted but free you're able to download it. However if it's not, you'll get errors and "Unavailable for your location" messages.

I got kinda a different problem but still a problem. I bought Gears of War 2 brand new, got home, put the disk in and played. Started hearing about the flashback map pack from other players and that it was free in the case with every copy. Well I checked in the case and I have no mappack code anywhere. Is there anything I can do to get my code because Wal-Mart refuses to take back the game or exchange it unless there was a problem with the game disk and since there is no scratches on the disk they wont take it back and its been over 30 days now. Is there anything I can do to be able to download the Map pack or am I just screwed lol?

I bought three new copies of Gears of war 2, 1 for me and two for my friends, I was having a 2005 xbox360 re-furbished, it got broke and as it was my number 5 i got tired and bought a new 60 gb xbox360, but when i attempted to download the flash back map pack again, even on my download history it doesn't get through,

And I have even try to Redeem the code again but of course its just a one time code, but can't do also.

I really swear i bought a new game and I can prove it, but anyways I can't download my maps back, and that was the reason I played this game, honestly if I don't solve this problem I don't think I will ever play GOW2 again online, its really sad and frustrating thing for me.

Shouldn't the map pack be tied to your box as well as your account?
Make sure you're logged in when attempting to download.
If that doesn't work, maybe you have multiple accounts and downloaded it with another?
Log in with that, and try again.

If it's just tied to your box...

When you send your broken box to MS, they will remove the licenses tied to that box, and move them to the refurbished box that they'll send you.
Since you didn't go through that process this time, and bought a new box, that didn't happen, and you have this problem (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911198/en-us).

I don't think you can move licenses yourself. :(

There is the Xbox 360 Data Migration Kit (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936860/en-us) invented for people who bought an Elite and wanted to move their data, but that kit only moves data, not licenses.

I read some Elite-buyers complained and got MS Points so they could re-buy their old stuff using a free, silver account.
That way that stuff get tied to their new box.
Some people also figured if they're signed in they can still download their content, so they just bought new stuff, which isn't really fair.
I'm not sure if the above are just rumours, if this would help you, or how you would accomplish it.

It has been about 12 days since I sent my message and I haven't heard anything since that first reply (http://forums.epicgames.com/showpost.php?p=25785724&postcount=22), which suggested it was a know problem already.

I since asked two friends/colleagues (same country) who both downloaded the map pack without problems.
One also has the limited edition, and he downloaded the golden Lancer without problems as well.
(Well, he had to re-download once as suggested here (http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=633678).)

I asked if maybe my codes are faulty and if Epic could send me working replacements.
If not, if there was something else I could do, or had to do, to help fix the problem.
Waiting for a reply, hopefully along with the solution. :)

The HDD isn't really part of the equation when it comes to licenses.
If your HDD breaks, you can replace it.
Although you will have lost your save games, game profiles, etc., your actual box hasn't changed, so the licenses are still tied to that system.

Thank you both guys, my hard drive got broke because an update through Xboxlive, it works offline but it freezes my box if I connect, so I had to forcely use my new 60 gb hardrive that came with my new console, and I had transfer all my licenses to this new console I bought, but somehow, the flash back map don't go through and gives me error # 8...007 something like that, I think only Epic or Microsoft can solve this for me, otherwise I'm trough with online multiplayer, and I think is very unfair since I bought 3 original copies of the game, better support than that from a single guy, I think is difficult to find.

Í cannot download maps either. i feel ripped of as it is false advertising, i have irish account linked to spanish IP, all other downloads work fine exept for GOW2 maps, plus what i find strange is that EPIc states the 3 codes are all in one card, i only have maps and 48htrial, no GL. Either way none of it works, very frustrating and wish for EPic to fix this as we have all bought full price on a copy to enjoy, then you get it taken away from you once you get home.

I cant download the maps either. they were downloading just fine until someone sent me a chat request, when i replied it stopped the download, and when i exited i checked to see if it was still downloading. not only had it exited the active downloads screen, it was no where to be found. when i did find it, it was under "unkown files" in my memory settings as incomplete. i cant touch or use it, and i cant put i nthe code again. its gone and dead all because someone decided to talk to me. is there anyway to fix this?

all we can do if you have downloaded succesfully the maps on other hard disk, is get a migration data tool kit, and transfer it to hardrive, as Microsoft gave me a call and they really tried to solve my problem, but they couldn't do anything, then they assigned me a kit to solve my problem, is all with Epic, they need to goive you guys a new code, or else, forget it.

The same problem for me, cannot download some extra contents for GoW2 and other games. I could understand the so called copyright o censorship matter but, What have those topics to do with map packs or expansions? I have spend a lot of money in the console, subscriptions, points and games. I deserve to have access to those goodies. Moreover, when you buy a game there is not stated anywhere that some extra content could not be available. Microsoft (and game companies) don't give a s*** about the XBox users in my country (Venezuela). The sad thing is that I work in a company awarded with the 'Latin American Partner of the Year' title from Microsoft. Go figure.

Ok i know exactly what to do if it says "you cannot download this item from this location" ok basically your First gamertag is an US account and the codes are region restricted thats why it wont work, so all you need to do is set up a new account/gamertag you will automatically recieve 1 months free LIVE trial then download the maps using that account, then once they are downloaded to your hard drive you can use them on your original Gamertag, simple!! i had the same problem, i bought my xbox over from the UK to Australia and could not use them on my original gamertag so i created a new one and now everything is sweet. i rang microsoft up and they told me what to do.

Ok everyone i have the answer for you all.
The codes are region restricted so moving country and trying to download codes form your original gamertag wont work, so create a new gamertag in the country you are now living, you will recieve 1 months LIVE for free then download your new maps using that gamertag, then once they are downloaded you can use them on your original gamertag because they are now on your hardrive, microsoft told me this when i had the same problem, i'll see you online people

Then you have big problems i'm sorry to say, yes microsoft are to blame i too cannot understand why do they put region locks on codes that come with every game sold (as in Gears 2 maps ) and why region lock a lancer code, if it was region locked so people could not play them in countries like Germany where Gears 2 is banned because of the violence i could understand but a Golden lancer and a few maps, i would ask Microsoft to take your codes off you and destroy them and tell them to give in return codes that will work in your country, after all you have paid for this item so you are entitled to it.

I have the same "location problem". I bought my GeoW 2 game and I have the code but I always get the same message "This item isn't available from your current location". I even tried to buy Flashback map pack for 400 MS points but even that is not possible. My friend also can't download map pack but our other friend can. This is so weird.

And as I can see there is no solution for that. It's not fair.

I've had the same problem and run this issue through XBL support and the situation is as follow:

When creating your Live ID you have to place a region that normally is your country, as in any hotmail account you try to create.
When buying online content (XBL gold, MS points) this creates a billing account with microsoft that will always be attached to your gamertag and live ID no matter what you do. When you move regions/country Microsoft doesn't allow you to update the region/country for reasons that no one can explain through the support and all the answers they gave me were rubbish.
So, what we're facing it that one of the biggest company in the planet doesn't allow you to update your billing information, being the only one as far I'm aware.
The most reasonable explanation I've had is because of region coding in the games but that's stupid because if you move within europe you're screwed.

Microsoft doesn't have a solution for this and they work around this by telling people to create silver accounts, this way you can download the content through the silver account and play it with your gold account. No wonder there's millions of gamertags.

What you need to do is to create your silver gamertag in the website, do not use your xbox to create your gamertag, as (for same strange reason) your xbox assumes the region/country of your main gamertag. Go to xbox.com use an email that you've never used before to register the new Live ID and you should be fine, if not drop me a message and I'll go through this with you

Epic and Microsoft this isn't gonna fly. Before your NXE was released Microsoft I could download whatever whenever. I paid from an American Credit card, I had a house in America, I paid in American dollars. I buy this game and the 5 free maps I was supposed to get don't download because of this problem. Why then could I download the map pack that cost me 10 dollars? How can you promise a consumer an add-on for free with purchase and then turn around and say no your region isn't supported but then let the consumer buy another add-on for the same product that costs more money?

Please everyone keep this thread alive, we need real high positioned Epic people to tell us something besides its Microsoft's fault and real Microsoft people to fix this because to me it looks like a scam.

well i spent 1hour on the spanish xbox support line, they told me even if you create a silver account in the country you moved to with new hotmail account and download the free maps you would only be able to use the maps with the silver account created, they wouldnt let me escalate the issue nore talk to a supervisor, the only solution they had was to wait for the gold account to expire,create a new gamertag/ loose all acheivements and freind list. Disgracefull really coming from MS.

Ideally all we want to do is change our country settings and not loose our data,they have the technology obviously to see our IP adresses and figure our region out, so let us change our billing info to match our ip ?¿! At the end of the day we are paying for the service, ok it does stop people from downloading content they shouldnt from different regions but what about the thousands of others...all of us spending time writing these almost pointless emails to EPIC and MS.

BTW has anyone tried connecting the xbox through VPN to our original country to not get locked ???

So I'm having issues with downloading the FMP as well, but mine's not a region issue; I have the problem where the download stops at 97% of completion and says "Can't Download Flashback Multiplayer Map Pack". I think this issue has something to do with my account specifically.

So I was wondering if any of you who used a silver account to download the maps would be willing to loan me their unused silver account, so that I could try and see if that would solve my problem? I'd appreciate it.

Or, if anyone knows another solution to my issue, I could use some help as well.

What I LOVE is that Epic/MS are cool with me spening 800pts on the CMP and yet there blocking me from the FBP. Seriously, I tried everything, I even asked a friend in Canada if he could input the code on xbox.com, he did. The thing downloads and then stops at 99% telling me "can't download this item". I would really not care, but there are achievements involved here. And if I need to make a quick trip to Miami or something and bring my xbox with me I will, you will not win MS/Epic/dude who sits around coding region blocks and IP detectors. YOU WILL NOT WIN!

yeah, I have the same problem. I have an American 360, American Gears 2 and American X-Live account. I recently moved to Turkey and found that while I could easily download the Combustible Map Pack ( the one you have to pay for) I couldnt download the Flashback Map pack!

I emailed Xbox Customer Support and got stonewalled. I know its MS thats blocking it too since I've been able to download lots of other M content before. I just dont get why MS would choose to block the Flashback Map pack...

I'm going to try that VPN trick if I can. Where there any other ways to download it? I skimmed the thread but I may have missed something.

had the same problem, what you do is simply create a new hotmail account with the country you are in, then use a free silver account u get wit sum games. create a new gamertag from the same country your in...now download the maps, u can use your original account afterwards.

There will be no fix, cause there's no bug. We can't download it because the system works just as it was intended - allowing to DL it only on territories MS is sure they're legally allowed to distribute the files.
