View Full Version : Gears of War for Windows still freezes 1 year after release
11-21-2008, 12:57 PM
Purchased game on Wednesday, November 19, 2008. Game ran flawlessly through first 3 missions all day Wednesday. Tried to play yesterday and was able to get 10-15 mins of game play before game froze up. I was unable to recover my system and am forced to perform a hard shutdown. Now the game will freeze before gameplay loads(menu freezes). I am unable to view event information in my application event viewer and I also DO NOT receive any windows errors.
I have followed numerous instructions:
changed paged pool settings to "FFFFFFFF" in registry
reinstalled Gears of War(and update), Windows Live, Driect X 9.0C and NVidia video drivers
Set to windowed mode
Great game until this began. If the game worked flawlessly one day and not the next it is leading me to believe this is a piece of plastic with terrible code.

Well i recommend you visit forums.gamesforwindows.com in that forums is more visited the PC version that here at epic forums.
However is strange your case i played 4 times the complete single player and a lot of public matches without problems.
a) Maybe the GFW update of last days wasn't good for GOW PC
b) Your video drivers.
c) Anything else like an antivirus/troyan

My video drivers are up to date as I stated.
I do not use anti-virus software as I do not use/download malicious and/or uncertified data. Anti-virus software does nothing but use valuable resources on a PC and causes other software to operate unstable. It is there to make PC users who are uncertin about their use feel protected. To add to this topic I recently formatted my drive and installed all updated software.
The game is currently working as I removed one of my video cards. This should not be the solution however as the game did function correctly the first day.
This forum is top of the list for my internet searches on the subject.

Not all nvidia drivers work properly with SLI.

The latest drivers support my SLI. Do you happen to know which drivers work and which do not?
otherwise this does not help the issue.....
