Hi, just picked up Gears of War 2 today, put it in, and trying to play single player campaign. It shows the three difficulties plus the blocked out "Insane" mode. However, upon choosing Normal, it makes a thunk kind of sound and doesn't do anything. So I tried Casual, then Hardcore, both with the same effect. I then tried restarting my Xbox, and it didn't help. I tried signing into another XBox Live account on my system, and it didn't help. Once I signed out of all accounts and was accountless, it finally worked. However, I stopped playing as I would like achievements, and more importantly the helpfulness of being able to save my game. I have since tried it again while logged in, and it still will not work. Any help you can give me on this issue would be greatly appreciated, as I would not like to have to make the long drive back to return the game.
Thank you in advance,
Arkadious

I'm having the same issue. I've tried lots of different things and still no joy. I had a friend invite me to co-op campaign and I was able to play, but can't get it going at all on my own. I've tried solo and co-op campaign with the same result.

just keep restarting xbox till it works...like i clearly posted earlier....actually...right bedore your posts....the same exact thing happened to me...so i restarted...tried again...then restarted...tried again....restarted....game froze....restarted...tried again...after about 7 times it let me get through...then when i started playing today i had absolutely no problems at all....then i stopped playing for a few hours....and i just tried playing bout 2 hours ago and the same thing happened again...so i restarted and this time it worked first try...so...instead of trying to find other ways around problem...why not listen....im sure it will be fixed fast...they clearly knew of this problem prior to game release...since it is happening to so many people...they just wanted to release anyway....so they probably started working on the patch weeks ago...ive seen this same thing happen over time with other games....

yeah thanks for the help wordy, but there's no need to abuse the ...
It's just taking up more space for us to read, and more time to scroll down.
It's like trying to read a message from a person with a breathing machine like Christopher Reeves had. Not the most pleasant of times.

Heh, not the most useful "solution", and very likely that will eventually damage your 360 Wordyman.
Justin, AKA SixOkay from Epic got back to me on Twitter. http://twitter.com/SixOkay
They should be posting a thread here soon to discuss issues.
Here is his direct msg to me on Krusty's issue above:
SixOkay: working on that. Tell him to unplug his network cable and try again. Temp fix for now

Q: Campaign start issues – When I select a new campaign, then select a difficulty, the game makes a noise like it’s being selected, but the campaign doesn’t start.
A: If you’re having this issue, try setting your game to “Local” in the campaign lobby. This should fix any issues you’re experiencing.
Interesting. Beats turning your box on and off 7 times :P
