Like the real life ones, are these people just finding them on the streets, and don't call me stupid, because I just joined the Gears of War community.

Ok cog tags are basically Dog tags but for the gears universe. When cog soldiers die these are sometimes dropped if you look there is usually blood or locusts near the cog tags.

I mean like the ones in real life with the codes on them. Are they just on the streets or something?

Yes, they are randomly placed by someone. If you check out one of the stickied threads at the top of the forum, you can see the ones that have been found.

That's a little silly. Like somebody said a couple days ago, what if an old lady, or an avid Halo fan finds one of the COG-tags? What if they lose it or throw it away or something? Seems a little hard to comprehend.

Well they try not to put them in plain sight, like behind bricks or under rocks. Just enough so you would have to be looking for it to see it.

They ship them to people! The whole hiding them is retarded, what if they aren't found. I bet they got them for ordering them online or pre-ordering. Mine should be coming soon anyways.

Well they could have just sent the tags to people in the media to get them to write a story. However due to hiding some of them you have all the attention from people on this board and elsewhere. One thread here is got almost 80,000 views. Also people have got a story to tell how the found one or was so close.

Look at the other thread to read some of them.

He is right some of the media and game blog's got cog's send to them and for the rest of us there have been cog's left over the world for us to find.

Real life cog tags are strategically placed in order to drive the internet community into a frenzy and trick them into going outside and getting some exercise and fresh air. They realize that the amount of hours people are going to devote to GOW2 is highly disproportionate to the hours that people will be moving, so, to avoid mass media scrutiny, Epic has launched a pre-emptive strike. Genius? Only time will tell. Until then, maintain an unhealthy compulsion towards all Cog tag related news, tweets, posts, blips and chirps.

I however, received detailed instructions, maps and photographic documentation of where and when my cog tag would be revealed.

But for everyone else, good luck brave cog tag hunters. Make me proud, show no mercy:)
