2x Its happened to me when I have been playing. Now on my 3rd power supply with a bigger wattage will I be fine to play again or face another blown power supply :(
P.S
This is the only game I've had problems with all my other games work fine.
Here's my specs,

It shouldn't being on a higher wattage
However it does use up more power with Unreal Engine 3 updated etc.
Just pray it doesn't I guess

I remember those times--we have a public desktop and I tried Battlefield 2 on it and the CPU fan was literally speeding up and slowing down with the game pausing every so often because the power supply wasn't strong enough. (Then I restarted the system and saw that the Pentium D 925 I overclocked from 3GHz to 3.5GHz was at a literal 79 degrees Celsius--that's well over the typical point of locking up for a CPU, and quite a dangerous temperature to have it under.)
Whatever--just make sure you have a high enough wattage to support the components in your system and very high amperages. (With wattage you just need enough--you need to have high amperages on a gaming PC's power supply though, and you should check that as well when you buy one.)

Give us a break... christ.
The game is NOT the cause for your faulty Hardware related Installation!

Yes, a NetBurst-based processor is pretty old for a 8800GTX card, though yes, a power supply can very well cause issues...

People.. People.. You can buy Pentium D's for socket 775 boards NEW. Im not disputing that its slow but its probably good enough to run this game.
If your blowing power supplies often then you probably have faulty hardware or your power supply is weak.
What is your power supply??

What is your power supply??good enough to run the game has nothing to do with it. its silly to run a high end card with such a sluggish cpu. of course the person doing this also thinks Gears is blowing his power supplies too.

Assuming his chip is a 940 Presler core its not much slower than your X2. So I'm not sure of your point.
Besides a cpu bottleneck did not make his power supply croak so why does it matter?

Besides a cpu bottleneck did not make his power supply croak so why does it matter?well if you actually read the post that I was replying too you would get it. also his cpu is noticeably slower than mine and is on par with the 3800 X2. next Im not running a high end card like he is so even if I had a slower cpu it would have no influence on the comment I made about his specific setup. I know his cpu bottleneck had nothing to with the psu croaking. you need to stop taking my comments completely out of context. ;)

I understood everything you said. You didn't have any idea how to help the guy so all you did was tell him his system sucked when in fact its not much worse than your own. Thats what I call silly.
I don't know why I'm defending this guy because he doesn't seem to want help so I'm done with this stupid thread.

I don't know why I'm defending this guy because he doesn't seem to want help so I'm done with this stupid thread.well we all know the game is not blowing up his power supplies. I didnt tell him his system sucked and in fact my comment was to someone else about his cpu being a bottleneck for that nice graphics card which it is. even if I had intel graphics that would have no bearing on what I said to him because I wasnt saying my comp was better or anything like that.
you then quoted me and said that his cpu could run the game which of course it can. again my only point was that he has a cpu bottleneck for that 8800 card. I still have no idea why you are so worried about my comments and you certainly are exaggerating and putting your own twist on them. other than that maybe he will get a decent psu that doesnt blow up this time. lol

Hey guys thanks for the helpful replys I've enjoyed reading them!
I've got a duel core processor both running at 3.20ghz that's hardly bottleneck lmao!
When I got my new graphics card the guy also had to install a new power supply both ones blowed up when I played gears of war and I play many other games for long lenthgs and they never did that so the third time he installed a new power supply I think it was a 600w. I've tryed gears again and so far no problems touch wood!

it sounds that what is happening is your video card required a higher wattage then the power supplies had but now that you have a new power supply I would check that your video card has enough watts and volts running through it to support it.

3D Mark 06 - CPU Benchmark
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 - 1579
Intel Pentium D 840 - 1433
Thats one heck of a bottleneck right there.. wowzers...!! :p
