Hi, would using assets from Gears Of War disqualify a project from consideration in the contest? From the rules: "The content of the Submission must not be subject to the rights of any third parties, other than Sponsors and/or its licensors." I'm just wondering how that applies to GOW since it is also an Epic game...
thanks..
Man I wish. I h i g h l y doubt it though. I think this came up somewhere before and the answer was a resounding no. =/

They say using stuff from Unreal 99 doesn't...I'd think it would be the same situation...it's not third party

This comment is not meant to start a fight or a flame war, it is for informational purposes only. This has all been discussed before.
UT99 is part of the "Unreal Universe" which is why it can be used on later UT maps.
"Third party" is meaningless in this case, as is also the fact that Epic did both games.
Technically: Back when UT2004 was released Epic updated the game's EULA to allow mappers to use content from any of the previous Unreal Universe games in maps that they create for UT2004. In simpler words, they gave legal permission to use the content across Unreal games.
The Unreal Universe games includes: Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Unreal II, UT2003, UT2004, Unreal Championship, UC2, and [essentially now] UT3... ONLY.
GoW is NOT part of the Unreal Universe. Therefore technically and legally you cannot use any content from GoW in UT3, or vice-versa.
I would assume that most likely, use of blatant GoW content will get a map disqualified from MSUC. Since there is no current permission to use GoW content, any upload sites like filefront, fileplanet, etc., legally won't allow you to upload there, so that alone is enough to prevent GoW content use.
However, as with all things, there will still be people who argue and do things that they shouldn't, and ignore all legal statements. :)
I'm not here to tell you that you cannot or should not do it, but be aware that if you do use any content from other games without permission, you must take all responsibility for when/if Epic comes at you legally.
Maybe they will come after you, maybe they won't (so far they haven't said anything in the forums to the current ripps), but that doesn't mean that they have given any permission or that they may not take action at some time in the future.
Do a search in the forums regarding the Lego map if you think this doesn't occur.
Personally, I wish they would grant us permission, but I'm not willing to spend a few months on a map that includes GoW content, and then have Epic later tell me to pull the map down, and lose all of that time and work. :/
