Well I "found" a COG tag

I received a COG tag in the mail today... I don't know why I got one, or how.. it's pretty sweet though. I will post pictures soon, in the mean time does anyone know why these were given out - As far as I am concerned there are probably only 26 of them made in the world judging by the tabs on the site to unlock.. Were these just randomly given to players, or is there a purpose - If anyone else has got one please let me know your gamer tag, your rank in gears, etc.. There may be a reason for this.

Yeah and they have a code on the back, and if you look at the site there is only 26 blue tabs to unlock - Which means more still need to be recovered.. I entered my code and a blue tab unlocked for everyone - That's why it's "viral". I don't know what they are for but one is selling on ebay right now for $265 with 4 days left to bid... Should I get rid of it or wait to see what they are all about?

That's because they are related to this campaign, those are just little preorder ones. The viral campaign ones aern't mass produced, that's why they are bigger / better quality, because they can afford to do so (and it makes them extra special).

My first montage I used a free 1 month account and put some pretty bad names in there that got banned in like 12 hours, so I would just make another name that was bad and changed it.. That's why in my first montage made there are acouple other names.. But it is all my footage and game play

What's the point in listing it "soon" when you've probably already entered it on the site and been done with it? Considering that you were sent a tag for apparently no reason whatsoever when many other people on this forum deserve it far more than yourself, it's the least you could do to help the viral campaign. I don't mean you to take that comment offensively or aggressively, but it's pretty true and I just think it's downright selfish to not post up the code.

You said it yourself that you have no idea why you were sent this tag. There are people on this forum that have dedicated time to helping others find their tags, tried themselves to find tags and have been unable to do so or been beaten to it, or just plain helped the Gears community on this forum. People like that, who are going out of their way to help others get an enjoyment out of this are most deserving of these tags, who give up their time to participate in this and put in some hard work to get some results out of this - THEY are the ones who deserve this. They don't even expect to be given a tag, or even get something out of it - they give up their time to help others get something they'd love to have. What have YOU done to deserve it more than them? Play a game 12 hours a day and nothing else? Sorry, I didn't realise playing something for your own benefits was more deserving than someone who comes onto a forum and helps others gain something to no benifit for themselves.

So when you turn around on these forums and won't even give up a code to help us out, what does that say about you? You didn't get this from your "skill" at Gears at all, you most likely got it from random selection of people on the leaderboards or something, or maybe something you somehow entered along the line. In truth, the tag has nothing to do with this as it's part of the campaign (even though some people like Waldo far deserve to be sent a Tag over some randomer), it's about you spitting in the face of the people doing the hard work by not writing one measly code on the forum.

So please, spare me the whole "oh look at my stats, im so good, i deserve a tag for it because im so much better than you" routine. If you had any decency, you'd just post the code and participate. If I'm honest, I don't think you even have the tag with the way your being so defensive over the code, picture or not. You may consider simple devotion more than skill, necessarily. You can be very good at the current state of Gears online and in fact be doing an active disservice to the games intended play by doing so, since the online playstyle is so far removed from the intended gameplay (unless you somehow manage to find servers that aren't shotgun running.)
There are those who have been folowing the game for a long time, sought out the collectibles, written fan-fics, obsessed about the game prior to its launch, helped out when people had issues with the PC version, created custom content and mods, etc...
There's more to consider here than simple online stats. Someone could be far more of a fan than you, but due to having a full-time job and other obligations is unable to put in 18 hours a day to rack up good stats online.

I urge Epic to explain why people are getting these, or it may only lead to dissent and in-fighting amongst the fanbase. We've been there before over various issues, we don't want to go there again. Especially now, when we should be united in anticipation.

However, if they don't wish to do so, then there's no reason for people to foster said dissent through their independant actions. Regardless fo who deserves what, it's considerate to others to share the information.

Whether you decide to keep or sell it, giving the code out makes no difference to it. The COG Tags are the valuable thing, not the code. They just unlock stuff on the site for everyone.

As I said, what you do with your tag is your choice, but trust me when I say the code is worthless outside of the website. Posting it won't damage your auction, trust me. ;)

Smaller versions without codes are due to be shipped with the Splatterhead Locust figurine in the future. What you have there is different from the ones that will be sold.

No1 knows how many have been hidden or sent out.
The reason its to promote the game, generate more interest and to give back to the community.
Its probably made out of aluminium however u spell it
The exact thing will probably not be sold again but i think u can get 2 cogs of a smaller size on a chain.

As for the rest of your post, sorry but your wrong. They won't let you know. No more information is coming up. I guarentee it. Heck, the COG even says for you to "enter the code on the last day website". So just enter it, and then post it up. It's telling you what to do. My answers are correct and are not speculation - let me clarify something for you.

This is a viral campaign. Epic therefore can not DIRECTLY intervene and help us out or answer our questions in any way - the whole point is the community rallies together on the forums provided here to talk about it. They are involved obviously, but they are not allowed to come on the forums and help us out or give us more details in direct responses. I myself even sent a PM to the community manager when you originally posted up, and he couldn't respond to the question because it's part of the campaign.

So please, before you go pointing and claiming I'm posting incorrect information, I'd shut up in future. Nope. The codes actually have no significance outside of unlocking things - your tag was one of four able to unlock the satellite (which was unlocked weeks ago by the way) and that's it. So from now on, if you were to post your code, everyone could use that and get the wallpaper. Nothing else.

I find it strange how people think that blind fire headshots are entertaining. Do you have any idea howmany countless shots these "blind fire" montage people take before they get a single headshot? It's not impressive to me, considering I've seen dozens (if not hundreds) of idiots come in and doing nothing more than active downing, or missing entirely. Lame, lame, and more lame.

And this may sound selfish but oh well - I own one, not you, It is my choice to do what I want when I want with it. So what's the big deal about you giving it away? Your grabbing for excuses that just don't fly, and making yourself look kinda stupid in the process. BUT, I will explain in a little more detail what I meant by unlocks because I wasn't quite clear.

Basically, your code is meant to unlock the first tab (with the Radar Dish) AND a wallpaper. Entering it for the first time unlocks the first tab, but there are four CSIDs associated with that tab and one of them was entered first (so it didn't unlock it, it was already unlocked). That applies to EVERYONE. The wallpaper you accessed can only be accessed via entering your CSID and we refuse to post links on this forum directly to these after a request from Six Okay. While a wallpaper isn't much, some people on this forum are trying to collect everything from the website.

Also, in the future we may need to combine codes or use them to find other clues and we MAY need every code we can get. The way this whole viral campaign has been twisting and turning, we never know.

Where in any of my posts have I said you DONT deserve it? I haven't. I said you don't deserve it over some of the people on the forums who are doing the hard work, but that doesn't mean you don't deserve it. I'm closing this thread. This argument is going nowhere, and isn't resolving anything.

For what it's worth, it's not a big deal if you share the code. Many of them are designed to be shared and used by multiple users. But if you have the tag in hand, it's really your choice what to do with it. Share it, don't share it - your choice...

If you do hold onto it, though, I'll probably just eventually release it on my own for those who want to participate in the full scope of the experience.
