HELP! our 600mb submission keeps failing at 256mb! am using firefox on xp, gonna give it another go on IE
error given is "An error occurred. Thread was being aborted." - the data transfer rate still reads at 40k but the data counter isnt incrementing anymore
the submission page in the background meanwhile reads "server connection reset"
another thing, i have at least 150k/sec upload, is the submission being limited to 40k? when my zip file failed, it was about 2 and a half hours in - if its timing out and limiting us at the same time, theres no way we can enter!
this is the second time its failed, and at 40k i only have 3 tries left before the deadline!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH! ive been up 21 hours now >.o
EDIT i'm now trying this on ie which is doing only 36k/sec
EDIT - after discussion, the team and i have decided that more of our members will try to submit an identical file under their own MSUC accounts. please do not mistake this for an attempt at cheating, we are merely trying to get our submission in reliably - if one succeeds we shall withdraw all the others

its still uploading :( 140mb so far, so i dont know if it will stop at 256mb yet
my colleagues are trying with MUCH faster upspeeds than mine, and are only being allowed to deliver 50k/sec
this is very frustrating. we also dont know if anything will go wrong with multiple people submitting the same file.
i will shout here when any of us gets up to 256mb, whether we fail there or not.
has anyone else succeeded in submitting a file of 600mb + ? the submission form says under 2 gb...

Also chiming in from the same team, we're currently trying to see whether this problem is local to strange's connection or more global.

ok its stopped again, this time at 220mb. same error this is getting ugly.
the submission page in IE says Cannot find server or DNS Error. this time im going to leave it going, since the counter is still updating, maybe its just a phantom error
it will be a couple of hours before we know whether this is just my connection or your server, since my colleagues started uploading way after me. watch this space.
is there no way we can link epic the file from our ftp? this is not a fun way to do things.

Hi, I'm with AFF trying to upload as well. So far so good, with 147mb up using Firefox 3 and a solid Cable connection.
Will drop a line if successful, or if I hit a brick wall like Strangelet did.

cevius's upload proceeds past 256mb, so it cant be data size. the plot thickens....
Our upload failed in FireFox but eventually succeeded in IE. The download URL failed to display on the confirmation page, though I got it by email a while later. Our entry also has not shown up on the Phase 2 page yet.

sadly cevius's upload has failed at the 309mb mark, same error as mine :( it seems that theres a time based disconnect going on since his was faster and failed at more data.
he was using firefox 3. the next upload will again be tried in ie.

Hey guys, I'm working on finding an alternative solution for you. Will be back in touch in just a bit.

Tried again in IE and it uploaded fine. The 50kb/s limit that firefox was getting wasn't apparent in IE and it didn't time out. Was averaging about 400-800kb/s :D

If any other entries accidentally get submitted for AFF by those who have long since crashed out and left it running, please disregard them.
Thanks for your help guys!

<3!!!
And thanks crowl. :) Though Cevius saved the day for our team, the alternative submission would still be a good idea though in case we need another last minute resub or someone else runs into issues

Whew, glad that worked out. FilePlanet says they've been taking submissions of 800 MB or more for Phase 2, so it's best to use the system we have in place unless all else fails.
Can't wait to see everything. Thanks for sending in your mods!

im afraid i cant join you in regarding a browser based solution as "the best way" for uploads of huge files. what's going to happen in phase 5 with multiple gig submissions?!
but thankyou for your help anyway guys. on with the competition.
Alternative submission would be a great idea. I tried submitting the new haunted version and got a timeout error too with firefox. I'am trying it again with IE.

is it possible to send from one online server to fileplanet... cause if so. i can give u all a ftp account and let u upload ur games then transfair them online to fileplanet... or where ever u do it.
i have 100mbit download and 50mbit upload on the server. so it could work.

We also have our ftp actually. ftp is actually more sane in terms of bulk uploading since it has a resume function unlike browser based uploaders, I wonder why MSUC isn't using one. :/

we could do with community members that have a dedicated server to help out. and run the upload from there servers using a remote desktop.
OR unreal could swallow there pride and allow LINKS from other respected file sites.
