Play GoW PC without live?

Is it possible to play Gears of war PC without LIVE? I want to play this game on LAN with a couple of buddies in school but the LIVE errors keep popping up. Is there anyway to disable LIVE? We are not planing on playing online.

You shouldn't have a problem if you just use offline profiles to play each singly, however playing on a LAN won't be possible without connecting to the LIVE service because that is how multiplayer is done.

Hmmm... You know what would be really cool? If we can figure out how to get around LIVE in order to remake the lobby system. Make LAN easy. Show pings. Show server info. You know, just like in UT. If EPIC is done dealing with us on the PC, how about WE take it over. Who's with me? :)

Hm, would be nice, but a lot of work. You'd have to rewrite some parts of the game completley

I've managed to play a co-op game with my friend on our LAN with no internet connection. We had to connect the game to the Live network initially but when we moved the PCs to the room for our LAN game it remembered the Live stuff and let us create the game and play.
We didn't try multiplayer against each other though so it may not work with that mode still.
