Question about the GameU tournament

There is this GameU going around to 20 colleges and it has Gears of War 2 and tournament that allows u to play wingman multiplayer mode. It is a 2v2 gametype I believe. Has anyone here competed it in? It is at my college today from 4-9 and I am wondering if anyone competed if the contestants have to be college students to compete? Because I have a friend that is waiting until the spring to enroll and is probably the best gears player I know and I am really wanting him to be my wingman. Plus all the gears players at the school suck anyway. So can anyone shed some light on the subject?

Well I didnt compete in it but I played Gears 2 as well as some other games. At first I didnt really get what the idea of Wingman was but I think I got it now, haha

i played and won the Oklahoma state one. no you dont have to be in college. this is obviously too late since you say its starts at 4. its a blast.

I placed 2nd in the Game U tournament at ULM with a random partner. I had called a friend to come up and be my partner because he is pretty dang good at GoW and because I haven't played Gears since January.

Well he comes up and brings another one of our friends who plays Gears nonstop. They decide they want to team up and leave me out. So i thought i wasnt even going to get a partner. Of course they won the first round (the most any other team had was 4 kills to their 15). They let people who played in the first round play in other rounds so the runners up of Round 1 won round 2 to go to the finals. I got a random partner that sucked for round 4 and we won 20-3 (i know it is the first to 15 kills but we ended the last round with 20 kills).

I figure I have no chance in hell of winning so I just let my friends kill me the first few rounds of the Final game. They went up 26-11-11-4. We were tied in 2nd with 11 kills. I started playing again knowing my friends were garanteed the win. The problem is now I wish I wouldnt have let them kill me as the final score of the final round was 30-30-19-11. We entered the last round down 27-29. I killed two ppl including our friend that rode up to ULM with the guy that was supposed to be my partner. So we had both of our ppl and they had one. Turns out he was camping around a corner waiting for ppl to pass him so he could chainsaw for the 30th kill. He chainsawed my teammate and I killed him with a shotgun in the process. But alas it said he go the kill first awarding them the math when the round was over!

And then they started talking crap about how godly they were. All they did was give me one of the Gears t-shirts. If i hadnt told them bout the dand tournament, they wouldnt have won and be going to the championship game!

I guess it was a moral victory though as I scored 26 of our 30 kills. I think I had somewhere near 15 curb stomps too lol. That is one weakness on Gears I have to go for the curb stomp mostly because my name is Kick2theFace. I have like 4000 kills on Gears (yea i know but i never really played much) and I have close to 1000 curb stomps. I just cant helping thinking though that if I hadnt let them kill me 3-4 times at the beginning of the match and hadnt wasted time trying to curb stomp everyone that I probably would have won the match.



The odd thing is that I talked to ppl from LSU and none of them saw a Gears 2 place (talked to probably 50 ppl that I know down there) and they were having problems getting Gears to work at ULM (took 2 hrs after the thing started to get the thing set up for us to play) so maybe LSU didnt end up having a Gears tourny and maybe they will just call the 1st and 2nd place winners from ULM to the championship match? wishful thinking I know.

well that sounds good for me. when we were at the tournament everyone was told they couldnt play in multiple rounds. didnt matter much to us. we won the first one 17-6-?-?. then went on to the final round and won 35-22-?-6!!! that last team was horrible. i cant wait to play in the next tourny. my picture is on the gameU website. does that mean im famous now? lol

but about the people not knowing about the tourny same thing happened at OSU. they advertised very poorly. i only found out cause a friend of mine works in the Union (a central place at my college. gots all kind of stuff there like food, tutoring, etc) and she told me they were setting up that morning. i had to skip two classes to play.

so i just found out that the runners up at the Oklahoma State tourny went to the Oklahoma University tourny and won. i dont know how i feel like about that. i dont think that they deserve to get the same benefits as me since they didnt win.

Hey there. I go to UC Berkeley and there'll be a stop next Tuesday and was wondering if anyone near the Bay Area would want to be my partner? I'm pretty decent and reading posts on here and seeing videos from youtube give me the general idea that I have a good chance at getting somewhere in the top five haha So if anyone is near, send me a message and hopefully I can get a chance to game in a tournament.

Yeah, I suppose so but I feel like I should at least know the person and play with them somewhat beforehand so we see the styles we play.
