I have problems with Gears of War on my computer. It crashes within minutes of launching. I have done research and I know its because my Windows is x64 (64-bit.)
Plz help me find out what I am doing wrong an waht I need to do to fix it.
I have an HP Pavilion Elite with the following specs;
Vista Home Premium x64
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.5 Ghz)
8 Gb Ram
750 Gb Hdd
NVIDIA 9800 GT

If you are running 2 gig x 4 sticks of ram that maybe your problem. Most boards do not like all four slots full. Does your game stutter? This is also a ram / hard drive problem. It also runs a little funny with less then 3.0 cpu speed even with a quad. I play on 64 bit all the time.
HMM i have the HP pavilion elite m9340f with windows vista home premium sp1 64bit and upgraded the gpu from nvidia 9500gs to ati hd 4850 and got a new psu of 600 watts. ANd i haven't had a single issue with the game since i got it except for the modified error thing which was epics fault XD and got fixed by the updated. With a 64 bit OS you should be able to go all the way up to 8Gb of ram with out having any issues.
Here are my specs
hp pavilion elite m9340f
-- windows vista home premium sp1 64 bit
-- Intel core 2 quad 2.66ghz
-- 6Gb of ram
--600 watts psu
-- ATi hd 4850 ddr3
-- Hard drive with 750 Gb

same thing happens to me. The game worked perfectly on my old machine (Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit), but I just upgraded to a new PC with Windows Home Premium 64 bit and it crashes every time on the loading screen when I try to join a match. Everything else works flawlessly...
UPnP enabled
NAT Open
No Firewalls or Anti Virus blocking
SO I know I'm not having problems connecting to people, and my PC is more than enough to run this game.

My system runs Gears on 64-bit Vista without much of a problem. I get a lot of GPU crashes with the latest NVIDIA drivers, though, so I use an older version.
The person who mentioned using 4 sticks of RAM as a potential problem is correct in that populating all 4 DIMM slots can cause instability. Usually it's because it stresses the Northbridge to a great degree, but a slight voltage increase of .05v or so should fix it without a problem.
