After buying Gears of War for my Vista machine, I was dissapointed to find out that I couldn't play with my brother who owns the Xbox 360 copy.
I guess what's even more bothersome is that there was no disclaimer indicating no cross-platform support.
Can or will there be a fix for this in the future?

I don't think they ever indicated that there would be cross-platform support for this game, did they? Why would there be a disclaimer for something that was never claimed in the first place?

It could be my inexperience as a PC gamer. I guess I was under the assumption that they would be cross-platform since Microsoft was promoting Live for both PC and Xbox users.
On the same hand, I'm sure I'm not the only one that had this experience. From a consumer perspective, cross-compatibility should be indicated.

It is indicated on the box of titles that do support cross-platform play. I have Shadowrun and Lost Colonies sitting here, and they both indicate clearly that there is cross-platform support, while the Gears of War box doesn't say anything about it.
My usual assumption with any PC game is that it doesn't contain a feature unless it says it does.

Thats BS. I thought the requirement for a live membership that it pretty much went without saying they would be cross-compatible...
I love how they advertise a gold membership as something enables cross console support for PC gamers to play with Xbox gamers... I just wasted money to upgrade to a gold membership because I thought it would allow me to play online with Xbox users as they proclaimed, considering they offered no list of which games are cross-compatible... Thats the ONLY reason I bought this game... What a load of crap, why do they select and choose which allow and which don't allow but still require a live membership and don't offer an actual list of compatible games.
What a waste of time and money considering there is absolutly no PC multiplayer base at all.... Is there anyway to enable it or are we pretty much hooped?

Just my guess here but I bet Microsoft initially intended this to be a cross-platform title but due to the absolute crap job People Can Fly did porting this, cross-platform support would have been another coding issue...and a big one as I'm sure many would have bought the game for that use. Admittedly, when I bought my copy I assumed it was part of the package...I mean look at it...right down to the UI you have XBox console graphics, XBox Live descriptions (gold and silver accounts, etc.). However, I wasn't really dissappointed when I got it home and discovered no CP support...meh, no biggie. It's an easy mistake though, one that I would hope MS would make a little more clear in the future with their packaging (although I doubt they will...it makes a pretty good unspoken assumption and marketing tool to reel in customers who assume).
