For starters: I wonder if GoW can run on a cpu that's under 2 GHZ... I see you're around 1.86.
Not sure, but I think your driver set might be corrupted OR needs to be updated. If your driver is corrupted, you'll need to reinstall it.
"Is gears pc broken or sumthing"
To answer your question though.... no, it's not. It's a top notch piece of software with the right hardware and OS setup.
Good luck: I hope you figure it out, because you'll love the game if you're into 3rd person shooter action coupled with highly immersive environments.

This happened to me when I used to use my 8800 GS in DX10. The boxes would be gone in DX9, but if i switched to DX10 I would get the random green boxes and my display driver would fail. I think it's an issue with just this game.

Sounds like a VISTA issue to me.
This is obviously driver related and Vista is known for piss poor performance/handling of various video card drivers along with drivers in general I think.

It's a Core 2 processor, and I've heard of Gears of War running on Pentium 4's, so that wouldn't be an issue. (When a developer makes a 2GHz processor or whatever a requirement, it's usually more of a guideline. As in: is your processor about as fast as this? With many different architectures, number of cores, brand, and other factors like that making a difference, CPU requirements are typically guidelines, though not strict rules.)
Anyways, it looks like you're running the 64-bit version of Windows XP. The 64-bit XP generally doesn't get as much attention when it comes to drivers and software issues because most people were using 32-bit XP. You could try updating your drivers (that seems to be the issue) though your 64-bit OS might be a factor as well. Still, try the driver update first.

I have P4@3.73, 2gig crucial ram and 1950pro agp and gears runs very good. Only save game bug is a major problem with this game to me.

and from the sounds of it. i have to find a 32-bit verson of windows xp pro.
so i pretty much need.
New windows xp 32-bit
and a faster processor
i thought since i had a dual core, that it would meet the supposed 2.4 GHz intel / 2.0 GHz AMD requirement

Crap... dunno where I got the impression he was running Vista... must have assumed.
Well... voila!! It's the 64 bit version of XP you're running.
I can't think of a SINGLE one of my 300+ PC games that's "guaranteed to work" with 64 XP.
I'll never understand why people are using Vista and 64 XP to play GAMES.
1. XP 32 for DX9 Games for the rest of eternity - PERIOD, there's no arguing, the support for the drivers/etc is unparalled and always will be.
2. Vista - WILL NEVER BE WORTH using for Gaming.
3. Windows 7 - this WILL be the definitive OS for DX10 Gaming, PERIOD.
If one can't comprehend those 3 points, then he/she might as well buy a console and LEAVE PC Gaming to real gamers.

Intel Q6600 from January of this year is SUPER cheap now... around $140-$200 (depending on various mail in rebates/deals).
Don't bother with a dual..... get you a Quad, because in the next couple years, Devs will start harnessing the true power of four CPUs instead of only 2.
FYI, Crysis looks at 4 CPUs if you've got it... and BOY does it make a diff.

Again, there is absolutely no problem with your processor and no need to go out and buy a new one. CPU system requirements are mere guidelines--not strict policy. CPU speed is no longer judged by clock speed alone. Otherwise, the 3.8GHz Pentium 4 would still be top-dog, and in modern applications a single-core cannot match a multi-core anymore.
The entire thing is a driver issue. First try updating your drivers by downloading the latest ones from nVidia's website. That is definitely the first step before buying a brand new OS (albeit some games are still not x64-compatible). If this fails, then you might as well get yourself a 32-bit version of XP.
