I am getting a new Pc which has 500GB HDD
2GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo E4600 2.40GHz CPU
and with Vista

My question is will Gears run properly on it?

no.

definitely not. at least if you get a crappy gfx card with it. so info on that would be useful to judge whether or not the system can run it ;)

If you get a GF 8600GTS or better card, it'll run on highest details in 1280x1024, without the AA though. And don't expect 100% 60fps :)

Thanks for the advice guys.

I would think that you'd be fine with it so long as you get a decent video card (at least 512 MB of RAM on the video card).

Before you buy it though, realize that there is some problem where your saved games are wiped out everytime you reboot. (Seriously.) They said that the 1.2 patch fixed it, but that's BS - it's still an issue.

An 8800 GT w/512 MBs of ram and a Quad Core at 2.4 (stock) is enough to play the game in 1280x1024 w/4xAA being forced AND V-Sync.

= Nets a solid 30-60 frames on my CRT monitor at 60 HZ.

feels like butter

It's the UE 3, so you know it's going to run perfectly with the right setup.

To the original poster: I don't know where you got the idea that you'd be able to play a Triple A title with a built in Video Card - there's no WAY you would ever be able to pull that off.

WHERE do people get the idea that one can play a top notch, Hardware demanding Video Game with crappy built into the motherboard video cards? How did that misconception creep into sooo many peoples minds over the last decade.

Back in the early 90's, people understood that one needed certain hardware to play the most current games on a PC.

And now that the requirements are astronomically higher than they were over 10 years ago: people have completely left their 'practical' sense behind.

I don't get it.

It's like showing up for a race you didn't train for.... do you honestly expect to be able to place 3rd or higher with NO preparation or training of any kind? Of course not... so apply the same principle.

An 8800 GT costs around what..... $150-200... think I paid $280 for each of mine back in JANUARY of 2008.

There is NO reason to go with anything less than an 88 GT.

People who are wondering/aren't inclined: PLEASE do NOT EVER buy an 84 or 86 or hell, anything below the 88 series because those cards are

Gaming on the PC at max has never been cheaper and more reliable.

Well, my system has an E6750 (stock speed because my motherboard's cheap), 3GB of PC2-6400 (DDR2) RAM, and an 8800GS video card, now only $50 (with rebate) on TigerDirect. I have a monitor capable of 2048x1536, and it can run Gears of War on all highest settings at about 45 frames per second at that resolution. 1280x960 runs at the engine frame cap of 62 frames without a hitch. (No Vsync, otherwise I'd probably be a good bit higher since mine is capable of 1280x960@100Hz.)

Your system is pretty nice for all we know, though the real core of a gaming PC is the video card. Since we don't know that, it's hard to say, though I'd simply get the 8800GS on TigerDirect for $50 and you'd be just fine in Gears of War.

EDIT: And as was said, integrated video allows you to maybe play games from 5 years ago, though the Intel GMA 950 on my laptop even struggles with Unreal Tournament 2003, which is a 2002 game.

Wow... no V-Sync.... sorry... Tears make me sick.

can't stand jaggies either, but if I had to choose, I'd take jaggies ANY day over bloody tears ALL over the screen...

I'll NEVER understand how people the pay money they pay and give the praise they give to Console Gaming seeing as most of Console games don't even have working V-Sync = complete joke.

I mean...are people BLIND to the Gargantuan TEARS occurring all over their screen everytime they rotate their views...?.... christ... lol...

Meh, I'd rather max out the settings first and then go for v-sync. I personally don't mind some tearing, I'd rather have it look good first.

LOL.... really.... guess what...

ELIMINATING the tears is instrumental in making your statement true.

Otherwise, you've got a 'potentially' gorgeous looking game with ugly tears all over the screen.

Max options minus v-sync does NOT = "look good".

sorry, try again
