For the most part it seems they went with people that can, you know, can actually act :eek:
That's gonna be much more important in a movie. Personally I don't think they should even bother to make the movie about Delta squad, make it about another squad completely, that way you can get some really good actors in and not be limited in your selection because they don't look or sound like the characters in the game.

I really like the idea of Clive Owen as Marcus, John Leguizamo would make a decent Dom, Terry Crews as Cole, Aaron Eckhart for Baird (I know, he doesn't look the part, but he didn't look the part for Harvey Dent either), Ken Watanabe for Kim, Ermey for Hoffman, Deborah Kara Unger for Anya, Roselyn Sánchez for Maria.


As for them being played by "Older" actors, they're not exactly young characters themselves. And being at 14 years of constant war, you aren't going to have time to wash your face and try to keep yourself looking younger and pretty. No one really cares at that point.

Instead of using live action would it not be better to just do the whole thing in CG using the actual characters?
The cut scenes and incredible artwork in game are unreal so why not continue to use it to tell the story.

Lester Speight actually provided the in-game vocals for the character of the cole train, and they modelled Cole on him, so yeah I'd say he will be the perfect actor to play him. Although that guy from The Green Mile would be an awesome cole!

Yeah, it's not really necessary for Carmine, or really even Kim, and maybe Hoffman, considering how much of the game really revolves around the core 4, which casting should be the focus on anyway.

However, here's how I'd make the case:

1) With a lot of pretty big or respectable names, you get a wider audience of non-gears fans, so it looks great in the trailers/previews.

2) It'd be a shock to see some of those guys (again to the non-game audience), get cut down pretty quick.

3) If you're making an $80-100+ million dollar film, you want recognizable talent that will draw plenty of non-game fans.

4) You might be able to get some of the non-major character actors at a discount, if you can convince them they'd be a part of this huge, almost ensemble action film, that could help boost their flagging careers (Fat, Scott), or maintain their relevance (Willis, who really hasn't done a good pic this century, outside of Unbreakable).

I think Mickey Rouke (Marv from Sin City) or Jason Statham would be a good Marcus. You'd definately need someone old, big and rugged though for the part. As for Carmine, maybe Ryan Reynolds since he's got that sort of high pitched comedic voice and his face will be covered so that's a plus haha

It's hard to imagine any actor who isn't all buff to be the game characters. I'll take Kilmer as Baird for looks and acting, the problem is if you throw him in the cast as a secondary character you gotta get big names for Marcus and Dom. Lester Speight-for Cole, he does the voice for Cole, and he is big and buff, just like Cole excellent choice for the part.

Javier Bardem-for Dom, out of the selection on the teamxbox site, he seems to work the best with his facial features.
Neal McDonough-for Baird, out of the selection he looks more like Baird with the blue eyes and short haircut.
Yun-Fat Chow-for Kim, he seems to fit Kim better with the physical features.

Kristin Bell would actually make a great Anya, she's got that same sparkle in her eyes as Anya does....but ASIDE from that, I think she'd be a good pick. John Travolta as Marcus? Not really....he could pull him off, but no. Me and a few friends agree the actors they get for the film should be no-names (independent, low profile actors/actresses). Now, some of you may be thinking, Maria is spanish...and I agree, BUT---she would be a great Maria. As Len has stated, and what I have read many times before, there are games and comics....then there are films. You are not trying to make the game or comic into a completely identical movie (although I and many others would WANT that), you are making the best possible movie you can for the audience. Besides, there are tons of viewers who aren't fans of the comics or video games but they enjoy the film...or not lol.
