I know the area you are talking about. Using google earth and the scale it gives, you are talking about 60 meters away from the lat/long lines. The London finder said he was in an area about 50 meters square.

What I want to know is how big is the search area. If the lat/long lines they give us are one thing and its 200 yards away, those lat/long lines they give us really have no significance.

I don't know if this has been stated already, but i am curious about this easter egg hunt aswell. I apologize if this has been covered already.

On TLD (the last day) i clicked the satellite, backed out after the vid and got the screen where it asks for an ID confirmation. I entered "thelastdaycod" (didn't get the "e") and i confirmed it. after that, i made me enter a security code (you know, like the spam proof things for websites). Finally, it asked my name, and i enter it (My name is Jason). But it was incorrect! I repeated the process and tried CLIFFYB. Same thing!

Any ideas? Or is this old news?

two sets of cogs:
1) the ones people were sent, which pop up certain bonus content (icons, posters, etc)
2) the ones people find, using the GPS coordinates that show up on the promo site (currently none are visible), which unlock special content, any of the 26 tabs that appear on the promo site.

If someone was sent a tag, and it ends in EL or AO (with a PM exception) then it doesn't "unlock" anything.

Five locations are still being sought - without certainty of which may or may not already be retrieved, save one which we know has been retrieved (by chiefwiggum) but we don't know which.

Ya that's a good point.... it's possible it's a photo hint and not a photo from someone who found it. Although the Raven unlocking somewhat on the website seems to indicate that it's probably a photo from the person who found it.

HOpefully he'll get the photo up soon.... Looks like on twitter he's gone to bed and no update on flickr. So we'll have to wait till tomorrow.

Back from UW. I covered an area in roughly a 500 yard radius. Nothing. I looked everywhere and couldnt even think of a spot that would be safe to hide a cog yet still make it "findable" by us folks that are really trying to find them.

We need to get some form of confirmation on which COG's have been found.

The stadium is just to far away. One would think they would have given us a coordinance a bit closer to the stadium if they wanted us to go that way. the stadium is also constantly watched. The hospital is just a bit to risky.

When I was in the area that resembles a baseball field, it is sunk down quite a bit. It reminded me of the scene when you have to get into the Fenix Estate up all the stairs. There was something I saw in the bushed while I was in that spot and so I figured I would take a closer look. When I came out there just happen to be a girl coming down the stairs I couldnt see and I scared the **** out of her. I was lucky I didnt get maced.

Hey about the pinksage cog tag I was doing some digging a couple of days ago on pinksage and i just figured that you guys had seen the video she posted on this blog. I came across it actually when I first started looking info up on search for the cogs. In the video she says that she "found" the cog tag so I'm guessing it wasn't sent to her.

After I saw the video I tried to google pinksage and see if I could find where she lived so I could narrow down what cog tag she got but I couldn't find any info. Glad you guys found out where she lived near. Heres the Vid from her blog if you guys don't already have it.

Employee of XBOX, lives in Redmond next to the game studios, posted "finding" it the same day all the other VIP's got thiers and a day PRIOR to public consumption of the coordinance.

To many holes in the story that say it was given to her or she had leaked info of a location.

I don't know, you have a point natass but why lie, I mean she has the tag why say that she found it and that it wasn't given to her. She doesn't really gain anything from lying. It is possible that she had leaked info or just ran into it close to the time that it was planted. I would stick with the tag is still active though until we get further information. The thing about updating whether the cogs are still active or found from six is sounding better and better =/

I can confirm that Sage's tag is not the one from the University of Washington. I can't disclose how I know, but trust me her tag is not that one.

Let me know if you cant make it for any reason. I just did a price check on what it would take for me to fly down there. I used to live less than 10 minutes from that location. You have to go right past the gun club/sporting clay club. When you pass that, turn left at the water tank.

if you zoom in where goog maps says the REno one is, there's lots of little rock quarries around. It also looks like the water tank area is fenced off by the shadow across the road to it. It may not be public access. But some of the rocky areas around where the gps dot is look promising. I'd also thought about driving there from Cali but it's a hell of an expense in time and money to go and look for a needle in a haystack (or rock quarry )... Good luck.

I'd put money there either near the blocked off part of those water towers or by the rocks like bush said. I would try the rocks definitely first since thats where Rag and Ace found the one in budapest under rocks. Also, I really don't think six would hide them in the sand so don't drive yourself crazy digging. Come back with the tag and share the code wealth :cool:

Ok guys, I just signed up here, wanted to give a status update to the Seattle cog tag. My nephew and I went down this evening, got there about 7:30pm with our high-power Sure Fire flashlights. We couldn't go during the day as he had school, and plus we figured the place would be packed with students. For those of you looking in Seattle, please post what you have noticed if you would be so kind. Here is our report for those interested...

We entered in the coordinates via our GPS and it led us right to the location. Now, of course, the cog tag would not be "exactly" there but we spent a few hours really looking for it, with no such luck. Of course, there were students leaving class, etc, occasionally asking if we had lost something, but we simply told them we were on a scavenger hunt. We first checked the long trial as it goes to the west eventually some walk-ways above form short tunnels and then into a parking garage.

The coordinates themselves take you to the top of this long walk-way with a street running north and south. To the east of the street is a very large grassy field and past that is a large fountain. Actually more like a large pond (think Emergence hole) but filled with water. I highly doubt it would be in there, but we did check to see if we could see anything hanging down in the water from above. We walked around the fountain checking under the benches, but standing there at the fountain, I could not help but think the surrounding buildings were designed in a way that perhaps would resemble from the Gears of War game.

Of course, with it being 8:30pm at night and students around, we stuck out with our flash lights looking around, so I somehow doubt it would be in plain sight, again, for fear someone may have noticed whomever was the person who planted it originally and simply went and took it afterward. Also, I doubt it would be up in a tree or lamp post, as I am sure they don't want someone risking injury from a fall, etc. I could be wrong, but I ruled out the entire area around the above mentioned pond. Of course the grassy field it is not in, as it was filled with Geese.

We went back to the original coordinates after looking in the bushes on the way back down to it. If you know the area, directly at the coordinates, there are some posts in the ground blocking the trial so cars can't go down the trial. We even listed them out one by one and checked in the holes and up inside the poles. We did the best we could looking in the bushes, and our lights were extremely bright, but no such luck.

We did find some Roman cathedral-style posts and we though "Hmmmmm, this is interesting" but we searched and searched, and found nothing, and of course, with it being quite dark back in there, that didn't help either. As we were getting ready to call it a night, three more guys came over and we overheard them discussing it so we joined them for about fifteen minutes as we looked. Since my nephew had school in the morning, we called it quits around 9:30pm.

Now, just a few comments. With Microsoft being here, some probably are wondering if who ever placed it told a buddy the whereabouts and they already got it. I read on here earlier that some people suspected a woman who works for Microsoft in Redmond as already having it. I believe though that was put to rest as false. What would help though are some clues, or some basic information. Perhaps I have missed something, but do we know if the cog tag itself is hidden, or is it inside a box, and we are searching for the actual box? If so, what color is the box? While I realize the cog tag is big enough to fit in one's hand, and isn't just sitting out in the open, is it buried underground, or perhaps in a tree? Of course there are a ton of questions, but seeing that only two have been found so far (and those weren't in the USA), I guess some additional information would be helpful, and curious, if that information is coming soon, etc.

It is really the thrill of finding it for us right now as we have done the Geocaching thing and had a blast doing it, but on that site, they give coordinates and then "what to look for" once there, and here, we don't have much to work with. We are hoping to try again, but just curious if there are any clues of anyone else in the Seattle area can share their experiences from their searches. :)

Also, in the Reno satellite photo there is the water tanks. The water tanks made me think of the cog tag that I picked up in GOW that was near those immulsion tanks in the level where Marcus and Dom split up with Baird and Cole and you first encounter the immulsion wretches.

And if were staying on this hypothesis say the cog tag found in budapest for instant was found near rocks. Well, there cog tag in GOW 1 was found in the locust tunnels that was near rocks. This is just a thought that I had mind you and maybe im just looking to far into this but I figured i'd throw it out there.

I second that. I truly wish it were handled more like a geocaching experiment. Complete with locks that would come undone to those who have access to the information, in this case the gamers. Or at the very least have a physical log present allowing individuals to check in, even if the item has been claimed. This way future attempts at finding the items would not be fruitless, and one could connect to with the board, should someone not have taken the time to check-in at the website/forum.

I remember reading a post from (sorry I am spacing on the name since I am new here, but a senior poster here) who mentioned the fountain for Seattle, but if one stands at the fountain and looks around, the locations it could be in are few. What I mean is I highly doubt the cog tag is on a building, and I wouldn't think it would be around plants, for fear the maintenance crew may be working and accidentally rake it up. We checked under and behind all the surrounding benches, and garbage cans, but nothing. Of course there are some areas behind the benches with plants and flowers, but I don't think we would be caught working around in there, for fear, we would be told to get out or that we would be damaging said plants.

I remember part in the game you described as well, I had that 'feeling' when I was standing at the fountain looking around at the buildings, but with a number of students still there at 8:30pm it made it hard to really look without raising suspicion from people (which is why we told people were on a scavenger hunt). Yes, there was a cog tag in the game that you described, close to the fountain but not in it. It was in a back corner I believe.

But again, what would help is if we are looking for the tag itself or a box that it is in? Hopefully someone "in the know" can provide some answers, even some clues, etc.

My nephew's Garmin Nuvi came in handy since we were able to input the longitude and latitude at my place in it, and it gave the "turn-by-turn" directions to the exact "coordinates", but then that is where the real hunt begins....arriving at your destination.

the only problem is that we have gps on our phones (no gps device) and all we can do is click the "find me" tab and itll show the lat & long so we just have to keep walking until we get to the right coordinates.. i havent ever used gps in my life..so who knows if ill even be able to do it? haha

Do you have the iPhone? Because if you do, all you have to do is go to "Edit Directions," use your "Current Location" for your Start and then enter the coordinates for the End, then click "Route."

I second that. I truly wish it were handled more like a geocaching experiment. Complete with locks that would come undone to those who have access to the information, in this case the gamers. Or at the very least have a physical log present allowing individuals to check in, even if the item has been claimed. This way future attempts at finding the items would not be fruitless, and one could connect to with the board, should someone not have taken the time to check-in at the website/forum.

I agree, but I do like the idea of this viral campaign because it the "curiosity" that is getting to me, the thrill of finding it if you will. Is it a pot of gold? No, but I guess just getting out there and looking for it is the fun part, but also frustrating at the same time. And, doing it in the middle of the night didn't help either.

Now what I thought would have been quite cool, would have been if more cog tags were hidden, in all states, in various locations (say 25-50 per state maybe) and on them were special one-time use codes that unlocked exclusive in-game items, maybe a weapon, or special armor, something that was unique and available only to those who went out and found the cog tags, again much like a Geocaching thing...in fact, perhaps partnering up with Geocaching website as a cross-promotion (now, watch someone will do this now that I suggested it, so I better get the credit!).

I know there is the exclusive in-game gold Lancer for those who purchase the "Collector's Edition" of the game, and then also a special gold in-game Hammerstein for those who attend the midnight launch at participating retailers, but imagine what it would be like to have a special weapon that really was limited, much like some of the World of Warcraft in-game items from the trading card game, etc.

The Garmin GPS only helps in finding the general area, no GPS is precise to give the exact on the dot location, but based on the aerial map, we were "right there". And nope, I didn't expect the tag to be right there because then it would have been sitting on a paved trail that anyone could have grabbed. I think who ever placed it, marked "a" spot with those coordinates, and then hid it "somewhere around" it. How far from those locations though is the question? 50 yards? 100 yards? A few feet? But then my original questions come into play (which hopefully will get answered soon here) as to are we looking for a box, or the tag itself, etc?

I didn't really look at it that way until you mentioned, it so thanks. But we don't know if this is the case for the Seattle one, if it is just a cog, or wrapped up in black paper. Buried? Hanging from a tree? etc. I ruled our trees though because again, someone climbing the tree could fall and then, trust me, would then try to sue someone (if you know what I mean).

I think there putting it in places that won't be seen by the general public but if your looking for a place that isn't populated and looks suspicious you might find it. The paper may or may not be there or hell there may be a paper but you might find the cog before you even find the paper. I was so consumed with looking for either the cog, or a black "box" I didn't think about looking for a red omen. Ugh. Also I wonder how big this omen would be. hmm i would say stick the cog search. The omen is an idea but it's not confirmed really by all of the sites. Your best it is to really look for areas that look suspicious but not out of reach i.e. places like the fountain or a place where there isn't constant activity. This thread shows the pictures of the cog tags. The budapest one shows the omen paper that the cog tag was wrapped up in and the london one shows exactly how the cog was found.

Ok guys, I just signed up here, wanted to give a status update to the Seattle cog tag. My nephew and I went down this evening, got there about 7:30pm with our high-power Sure Fire flashlights. We couldn't go during the day as he had school, and plus we figured the place would be packed with students. For those of you looking in Seattle, please post what you have noticed if you would be so kind. Here is our report for those interested...

We entered in the coordinates via our GPS and it led us right to the location. Now, of course, the cog tag would not be "exactly" there but we spent a few hours really looking for it, with no such luck. Of course, there were students leaving class, etc, occasionally asking if we had lost something, but we simply told them we were on a scavenger hunt. We first checked the long trial as it goes to the west eventually some walk-ways above form short tunnels and then into a parking garage.

The coordinates themselves take you to the top of this long walk-way with a street running north and south. To the east of the street is a very large grassy field and past that is a large fountain. Actually more like a large pond (think Emergence hole) but filled with water. I highly doubt it would be in there, but we did check to see if we could see anything hanging down in the water from above. We walked around the fountain checking under the benches, but standing there at the fountain, I could not help but think the surrounding buildings were designed in a way that perhaps would resemble from the Gears of War game.

Of course, with it being 8:30pm at night and students around, we stuck out with our flash lights looking around, so I somehow doubt it would be in plain sight, again, for fear someone may have noticed whomever was the person who planted it originally and simply went and took it afterward. Also, I doubt it would be up in a tree or lamp post, as I am sure they don't want someone risking injury from a fall, etc. I could be wrong, but I ruled out the entire area around the above mentioned pond. Of course the grassy field it is not in, as it was filled with Geese.

We went back to the original coordinates after looking in the bushes on the way back down to it. If you know the area, directly at the coordinates, there are some posts in the ground blocking the trial so cars can't go down the trial. We even listed them out one by one and checked in the holes and up inside the poles. We did the best we could looking in the bushes, and our lights were extremely bright, but no such luck.

We did find some Roman cathedral-style posts and we though "Hmmmmm, this is interesting" but we searched and searched, and found nothing, and of course, with it being quite dark back in there, that didn't help either. As we were getting ready to call it a night, three more guys came over and we overheard them discussing it so we joined them for about fifteen minutes as we looked. Since my nephew had school in the morning, we called it quits around 9:30pm.

Now, just a few comments. With Microsoft being here, some probably are wondering if who ever placed it told a buddy the whereabouts and they already got it. I read on here earlier that some people suspected a woman who works for Microsoft in Redmond as already having it. I believe though that was put to rest as false. What would help though are some clues, or some basic information. Perhaps I have missed something, but do we know if the cog tag itself is hidden, or is it inside a box, and we are searching for the actual box? If so, what color is the box? While I realize the cog tag is big enough to fit in one's hand, and isn't just sitting out in the open, is it buried underground, or perhaps in a tree? Of course there are a ton of questions, but seeing that only two have been found so far (and those weren't in the USA), I guess some additional information would be helpful, and curious, if that information is coming soon, etc.

It is really the thrill of finding it for us right now as we have done the Geocaching thing and had a blast doing it, but on that site, they give coordinates and then "what to look for" once there, and here, we don't have much to work with. We are hoping to try again, but just curious if there are any clues of anyone else in the Seattle area can share their experiences from their searches. :)

I remember reading a post from (sorry I am spacing on the name since I am new here, but a senior poster here) who mentioned the fountain for Seattle, but if one stands at the fountain and looks around, the locations it could be in are few. What I mean is I highly doubt the cog tag is on a building, and I wouldn't think it would be around plants, for fear the maintenance crew may be working and accidentally rake it up. We checked under and behind all the surrounding benches, and garbage cans, but nothing. Of course there are some areas behind the benches with plants and flowers, but I don't think we would be caught working around in there, for fear, we would be told to get out or that we would be damaging said plants.

I remember part in the game you described as well, I had that 'feeling' when I was standing at the fountain looking around at the buildings, but with a number of students still there at 8:30pm it made it hard to really look without raising suspicion from people (which is why we told people were on a scavenger hunt). Yes, there was a cog tag in the game that you described, close to the fountain but not in it. It was in a back corner I believe.

But again, what would help is if we are looking for the tag itself or a box that it is in? Hopefully someone "in the know" can provide some answers, even some clues, etc.

Thank you Waldo for the post and the "clues". Yes, you were the one who mentioned the fountain in the previous posts, but since I was new here (and will admit, I didn't read all 130 pages before I posted), I wasn't sure who it was, so thanks for the clarification.

When we went to the fountain area, I would agree, the general "landscape" of the area seems like something you would find in the game. Regarding the fountain, just to let you know, it isn't a fountain like what you think. It is basically a big round cemented pond if you will. There isn't any type of statue in the center, etc. More like a huge above ground pool. We checked it pretty thoroughly but I can safely say here, IF the cog tag is in the water, it will be difficult to find, because the water is not clear (actually rather dirty and murky and you can't see the bottom) and a few feet deep it appeared. Obviously that is probably already known, because if the water was clear, anyone sitting there could look in and see it. I think a person would be ok with going in, but the fact that the the fountain is rather large and the water is dark, would take a while inside it to find it and I am sure campus Police would be on you pretty quick. It would go something like this... "Excuse me officer, I am trying to find a cog tag" and their response might be from the night stick fairy. LOL! Its 1am here....I am about 20 minutes from there, I wonder if I should go back to that fountain since pretty much no one will will be around and check out the fountain some more. Maybe get my hands dirty. I did notice a small "ladder" like device on both sides, perhaps it is tied to it, or right inside the fountain at the bottom of it. Hmmmmmmm?

Seattle Update: Went back down to the UW and checked the fountain area out again. No luck at all, checked in the water as well at the base of the areas I thought would have it, but nothing. If it "was" there, then it is gone now and someone hasn't reported it. Checked the grounds, and buildings too. It was damn cold, and I felt I better go before Campus Police showed up, but I have it a good look over. May try again tomorrow if my nephew can make it.

Hey try this: the links of that satellite photo's they give you a direction view, if you type in the first letters of the code of that cog tag you come in a different place in the world. For example the londen one: B:51.5178 -0.0949 (the cog tag location) by A type in the first numbers of the csid which are: 196580 then you get an adrres.
Works with the hungarian one too only the adrres is somewhere in china and it can't calculate the route. anyway was just noticing this, could it be something?

Ok, so, items are getting unlocked without us seeing new coordinates - that's got to be what's going down in Hungary. There's no guarantee, apparently, that all COG tags will become a part of this hunt. There may be some 'deals' made with certain vendors or whatnot to provide their own contests that give away these special unlockable cogs. I think that sucks, as this really has the feel of a community 'treasure hunt' - but there's nothing stating that's what it is.

So at any point, someone may get one of these cog tags by other means, without us knowing about it. All we can do is watch and hope for more GPS coords, or some local Gears-related event that might hand out a special cog.

It would be nice to know about these COGs in Hungary, but it may be pointless for us to know anyway if there's nothing we can do to help retrieve them.

I just got the news, all 5 cogs found here in Hungary. The first one was Ragnar last sunday, than yesterday some gamer site revealed 4 more coordinates. 5 mins ago found the last one too. And yes, in theory there will be 6 more somewhere:) I can hardly wait to find one.

Also, all those cogs just reported found may be for the same tab, so we may never get any info about them since it's essentially already unlocked... though sticking at 0%. Perhaps this is part of their mini-game - once they've got all the cogs and reported them in to the promo site, the full thing will be unlocked. No need for us to know the details of that little promo anyhow.

From a marketing standpoint, that makes sense. 'Sell' tabs on the promo site to game stores/site/etc, so they can run their own little GoW promo where the winners get cogs and unlock the tab for the greater community.

im 99% sure that she got this in the post look at the csid Code: 216410-HHUIN-EL ends in EL she was part of phase 1

the only way to confirm this is to check that the london tag csid dose not end in EL. Did Geeofwar (sorry if i got your name wrong) mention his code ?

Dongcopter - my tag was about 40-50 yards west of the GPS marker. As in, I found the tag at 51.5178, -0.0952. But the GPS marker was at 51.5178, -0.0949.

Also, for anyone following the London tags. Six posted 2 clue-pictures - one of the wall and one of some freaky tree. I remember there being some discussion as to whether that meant there were two in the same location. Any more info or thoughts on that?

I went back to the same location again today to look for the freaky tree and found nothing that was really similar to it at all.

We couldn't go during the day as he had school, and plus we figured the place would be packed with students. For those of you looking in Seattle, please post what you have noticed if you would be so kind. Here is our report for those interested...

We entered in the coordinates via our GPS and it led us right to the location. Now, of course, the cog tag would not be "exactly" there but we spent a few hours really looking for it, with no such luck. Of course, there were students leaving class, etc, occasionally asking if we had lost something, but we simply told them we were on a scavenger hunt. We first checked the long trial as it goes to the west eventually some walk-ways above form short tunnels and then into a parking garage.

The coordinates themselves take you to the top of this long walk-way with a street running north and south. To the east of the street is a very large grassy field and past that is a large fountain. Actually more like a large pond (think Emergence hole) but filled with water. I highly doubt it would be in there, but we did check to see if we could see anything hanging down in the water from above. We walked around the fountain checking under the benches, but standing there at the fountain, I could not help but think the surrounding buildings were designed in a way that perhaps would resemble from the Gears of War game.

Of course, with it being 8:30pm at night and students around, we stuck out with our flash lights looking around, so I somehow doubt it would be in plain sight, again, for fear someone may have noticed whomever was the person who planted it originally and simply went and took it afterward. Also, I doubt it would be up in a tree or lamp post, as I am sure they don't want someone risking injury from a fall, etc. I could be wrong, but I ruled out the entire area around the above mentioned pond. Of course the grassy field it is not in, as it was filled with Geese.

We went back to the original coordinates after looking in the bushes on the way back down to it. If you know the area, directly at the coordinates, there are some posts in the ground blocking the trial so cars can't go down the trial. We even listed them out one by one and checked in the holes and up inside the poles. We did the best we could looking in the bushes, and our lights were extremely bright, but no such luck.

We did find some Roman cathedral-style posts and we though "Hmmmmm, this is interesting" but we searched and searched, and found nothing, and of course, with it being quite dark back in there, that didn't help either. As we were getting ready to call it a night, three more guys came over and we overheard them discussing it so we joined them for about fifteen minutes as we looked. Since my nephew had school in the morning, we called it quits around 9:30pm.

Now, just a few comments. With Microsoft being here, some probably are wondering if who ever placed it told a buddy the whereabouts and they already got it. I read on here earlier that some people suspected a woman who works for Microsoft in Redmond as already having it. I believe though that was put to rest as false. What would help though are some clues, or some basic information. Perhaps I have missed something, but do we know if the cog tag itself is hidden, or is it inside a box, and we are searching for the actual box? If so, what color is the box? While I realize the cog tag is big enough to fit in one's hand, and isn't just sitting out in the open, is it buried underground, or perhaps in a tree? Of course there are a ton of questions, but seeing that only two have been found so far (and those weren't in the USA), I guess some additional information would be helpful, and curious, if that information is coming soon, etc.

It is really the thrill of finding it for us right now as we have done the Geocaching thing and had a blast doing it, but on that site, they give coordinates and then "what to look for" once there, and here, we don't have much to work with. We are hoping to try again, but just curious if there are any clues of anyone else in the Seattle area can share their experiences from their searches. :)

Everything you did is pretty much exactly what myself and a couple others have done over the past couple of days. You must have started looking right when I was leaving. You lucky you werent contacted by the UW police walking around with flashlights. Not like its an issue as long as you tell them, "hey, I am on a scavanger hunt" and explain it to them.

Myself, Triecara(sp) and frypork (or porfry) have gone over the area pretty well. All of us have agreed that there really isnt any place to hide the thing that isnt either A) in plain sight or B) so well hidden to keep the average joe from getting it we are going to need a hint. HOWEVER, this isnt going to keep me from going back out again today.

My theory about the extra 4 Hungarian tags. The first one found by xlRagnarlx and his friend (who i think should be known as the L team from now on) found the first one. xlRagnarlx's friend got an invite to a special gears 2 party in Hungary as a special thank you for finding the tag. 4 other tag locations were then posted on the game site because of this e-mail address on the site you can see that Microsoft is behind this xboxhu@microsoft.com. I think that this has no link to the last day site I don’t even think the tags have a CSID plus they look different. This is just another campaign from Microsoft to hype up gears 2 to in Hungary. I believe that if you found one of these tags you will get an invite to the gears 2 party. Also there are rumoured to be 6 mores tag in Hungarian

Long story short I don't think these tags have anything to do with the last day site im about 80% sure of this

I've been following the last couple of days. I'm near the SF union square location, and I've searched all over down there. Personally, I think it's highly likely that if there was anything, it was already picked up by somebody. There's a huge amount of foot traffic in that area and there are also a ton of, well, I guess you'd call them scavengers or something, that go around picking up trash and cans and recycled stuff for money. They know every nook and find anything. There's tons of them. I know another guy (bushmaster?) talked about the huge garage also. I tried to sneak around in there for a while, but the security came after me. Bonus, I did find a secret parking spot that somebody uses for their Ferrari. It looked like there were a fair amount of people looking for the cog as well, but they could just be tourists with maps and stuff. Who knows. One other thing, I felt like a fool climbing around in bushes and stuff:D

There's something else you guys should know, a huge section of union square is blocked off for this nike womens marathon that's going to happen. It may be that they placed the cog in a spot that is blocked off now. I don't know. I might try to jump the fence today and just start asking around.

Maybe I am missing something, which I probably am, but you mentioned that gal has a cog tag that opens bonus content, not a tab unlocking one. So there are two types of cog tags out there? Her's in the video looks a lot like the one others have found out of the country. How is the one she has different than the one hidden at the UW in Seattle or elsewhere?

what people here call "Phase 1" was the set of mailed cog tags - tags with CSID's ending in AO or EL (with one or two exceptions). Entering these on the site only pops up bonus content - nothing else.

"Phase 2" is the set of cog tags that are being hidden at the GPS locations - numbers which appear at the bottom of certain tab 'frames'. Currently none are visible on the promo site, because the tabs they've appeared under have since been unlocked.

All the cog tags look the same.

The mailed ones have a different 'set' of CSIDs than the GPS located tags.

Two sets of 'bonus' content - one in popups granted by the first set of mailed tags, one in the site itself as unlockable content via the hidden GPS tags.

....the one ragnar found was in Budapest, as far as we know, at the coordinates that were displayed on the promo site. HIS cog tag was for this promo. So yes, his CSID unlocked a tab. The others, if they are for a different promo, may very well be free games as rewards, but then wouldn't be related to this site. IF their tags can be entered, likely they are for the same already-unlocked tab. We don't know that yet.

All we know so far - for this campaign, is that there are two types of tags - popup general bonus content, and unlockable bonus content. The first is through tags that were mailed to community/industry people, the second is through GPS coordinates that have appeared on the site.

The free game thing is, at this point, supposedly only applicable to those Hungarian coordinates that seem to be part of a smaller, self-contained GoW campaign at Hungarian gaming sites.

I just checked on the Team Reno. They were out of position by about 200yds. I got them dialed back in. The problem is that using the google map link it throws you off. You have to manually input the coordinance to get it really dialed in. I also compared what the link provided was to google earth. If you manually input on google maps and google earth they both give you the same location. just clicking the link and it puts you on a barron road with no reference points.

I am off to go get my copy of dead space. Not sure I am going to hit UW location until we get more info from six on it.

Proper links to be copied using the "Link" tab - that will copy the current map position and zoom. (see links in my article)

easiest way to provide map links: search for the coordinates, and don't move the map or scroll-zoom once it's centered on the location - just use the zoom tool on the left, that way the coordinate will remain centered, and you can be sure the Link tab will provide a url that'll jump to that coordinate.

I was looking at the forum right when the coordinates were first updated, and I was out the door immediately. I actually left before the pictures were posted, dongcopter called me while I was on my way to describe the location to me. Fortunately I work less than 10 minutes away from there, so I had it in my hand probably within 15 minutes of the coordinates being updated.

I went to the last day website and entered the CSID number, and the security code. When it asked for a name I entered ATOM1CLLAMADONGCOPTE, since we were both involved in finding it, and it told me "name violation", then asked for a CSID number again. I tried entering the CSID number again and it said that it had already been entered. I'm not sure if it unlocked anything, since I don't know what was unlocked for sure before.

I'll post a picture later tonight, I don't have access to a camera right now.

The coordinance for the omaha cog were on the other side of the building from where it was.

After going there it was prob less than 200 ft. The tag was closer to 41.253492,-95.929275 instead of GN 41.2533 DM -95.929

It wasn't really down an alley, it was in a space between a parking garage on one side and a parking lot that is under a bridge on the other. It was less than 100 feet away from the coordinates according to the google satellite view. I didn't have a GPS with me, so I can't say exactly how far off it was.

It was about 5 miles away from the original Omaha coordinates (that is, the ones from 5 days ago or so, not the ones from today).

I have covered that site down at UW with a fine tooth comb, but perhaps I need to bring out the big guns. LOL! I have checked and checked, but I will head down and check again, maybe when my nephew gets out of school. Last night at 2am it was damn quiet, but difficult to search but I covered that fountain pretty damn well, and even got my arms wet.

I laughed at the comment about Team Reno looking around a gun range, hopefully no one gets shot. Team Seattle is still on the hunt....how does one check in with others while I am down there again?

Based on this photo, I am going to have to assume the cog tag is simply laying somewhere, and not in a box, etc. As Team Seattle has reported, there is a lot of foliage around the coordinates, A LOT actually so I can't imagine it would be underneath bushes, because it could be anywhere, so like I said to my nephew last night, it is probably right under our noses.

Another 20 minute search for nothing. UW is a lot different from Omaha, it seems. Pretty much anywhere that isn't paved is covered with foilage, and even the paved areas are often covered with leaves and pine needles. SixOkay, we need a picture hint for Seattle...I was 10 minutes late for my cardiovascular lecture because I couldn't come away from the search...If I fail out of med school I just might have to be lame and blame it on Epic.

Another 20 minute search for nothing. UW is a lot different from Omaha, it seems. Pretty much anywhere that isn't paved is covered with foilage, and even the paved areas are often covered with leaves and pine needles. SixOkay, we need a picture hint for Seattle...I was 10 minutes late for my cardiovascular lecture because I couldn't come away from the search...If I fail out of med school I just might have to be lame and blame it on Epic.

I think what has all of us here in Seattle bewildered is the foliage around. Remember, this is the Evergreen State. Not only do we have trees, and bushes everywhere down there, but then we have multiple variations of bushes to deal with. Since the Omaha tag was fairly close to the actual coordinates, it is possible this is the case for Seattle. Standing on the spot, it is pretty open but we have checked every place around there, benches, garbage cans, poles, etc. Oh and the fountain about 100 yards away.

From what is sounds, Six has been placing them in easy to access spots. Probably not going to climb a fountain to hide it on top. And for San fran you should look around the side of the building it is supposed to be at. You know not directly in the open but still there

True but looking at the placement photos where the other tags were located, they haven't really been "hidden" per say. They have been "in the open" so we are all missing something. Look at Omaha, it was simply under an electrical box that anyone could have seen (luckily a maintenance worker didn't come along and toss it away). My guess is Seattle is the same thing....out in the open, under our noses, and we just aren't getting it. Also, it would be within reach, as the others were....so not up in a tree, or up high on a pole, etc. Of course it probably is placed in a spot where all the students that walk by wouldn't notice it, so it may be "within reach" is my guess, but not really out in the open. I think I am driving myself crazy now with my own assessment of the location.
