From what I am understanding now, there are 3 locations presented and there is 1 COG Tag to unlock item on the Last Day Minisite. So the satellite unlocked because the code was entered and all the other codes were removed from the section. So Since this is the best theory at the moment unless someone else finds a tag in Reno or L.A. then we'll know that there are at least 6 but as of right now there are 2 COG tags to find and one was found in Budapest! Congrats Ragnar, I'm glad I could help you out! So the last tag is Either in London, Omaha, or Seattle. Start moving people!

Ive been watching this as it evolves. there were lat & long's for the sat. page now it has been unlocked there are no more. but there are now some on frame four. if you look those up maybe you can get loctaions off them. they might be the same as off the landing site idk but its worth a shot.

This is a Viral Campaign known as the Last Day. Microsoft and Epic have created it for fun and to keep hyping the game. Real COG Tags have been given away to Xbox MVP's, Gaming Media Sites, and to People at the E for All Event. Now there are COG Tags been placed in the real world, 1 has been found in Budapest and many others are coming soon.

Oh and I just found at that you are playing as JACK or that robot you can see his reflection at TAB 2 section 10 , and when you look at the back of the car you can see him while your switching from 9 to 10. I dont know if this helps either.

I think that it is more likely that there are 3 tags out there then just the 1, Hooligunn made a good point about this but unless we find, say a tag in london then a tag in Omaha we carnt be 100%

If you go to Live and search for the GPS coodinates (put a comma between Lat and Lon) you can switch to a birds eye view and then rotate around that point using icons on the left. It looks like a battle scarred area (kinda like the wall where the sniper rifle rests?)

Did anyone else notice the pay phone on the last day site is unlocked, so that means someone must have found one of the three cog tags that unlock the phone and haven't posted it

Ok here's some math to blow your mind holes, ready?

The Phonebooth goes up to only 67% right? There are 3 Tags to be found if you break down that percentage to a fraction. 67% = 66.666 which converts to 2/3 which means that there 2 COG Tags found and logged which means there is 1 left to find.

From the aerials, it looks like there are rocks scattered (debris on the last day sight) to the left and right of the HardRock entrance. I have a hunch you might find it to the left of the entrance under a pile of rocks..

Actually I was using the later 2008 stuff (not birds eye view). I thought there might be landscaping rocks, but it might be patio tables. I've never been so I actually don't know what it looks like from the front. Do they still post the "lunch" menus outside the restaurant. Maybe it's near there.

I'm just trying to use things from the site to point to the real world.

My clanmate, Tank, who works within walking distance to Union Square had this to say about the San Francisco coordinates . . .

"I was there, i couldn't find ****. I put the GPS #'s into google maps on my phone and i was standing right where the dot is. In that area is a curved building with some open roofing (Pergola style) that makes an arch. There's a water fountain, garbage can and some tables.

Now on one of the support poles from the open roofing there's a piece of tape like MAYBE a crimson omen print out was attached to it but the paper is gone and there's no tear bits left over so i found that kind of weird.

There's tons of plants/gardens around. But no crimson omens. I waked all around. The entire center part is fenced off for construction which drastically reduces the search area but still... i looked on teh ground in trees on walls for some sign of an omen and found nothing.

I saw someone was posting hints for the London one. So if someone posts a hint for union square, i'll go back. But i half expected to come back and read that someone found it already. I dunno... if EPic would send me my damn validation email i could post in the forum and see what people think.

On the other hand... there are ass loads of homeless people around there so one of them might have seen it being hidden and gone and gotten it thinking it was something valuable.

Shows the location in the middle of the street. But on the google maps I do either on my pc or phone, the location is to the left where the curved open grid pattern is and there's an L shaped slightly more brown area which is a garden. NOt sure why the difference, obviously it's not in the middle of the street. Although to the right of where this links hows it in the middle of the street is a retail building and an alley way with some tables and an eatery. Maybe it's htere... but that' technically not union square."

Hey new guy here in Seattle.

I just got back from the UW location. My question is "how accurate are the long/lat"? When I arrived there was another guy walking aroundin the exact location. I just walked up and asked "looking for it to"? He gave me the "huh, um, what"? "Gears COG". "Oh yeah, I am".

There is absolutely no place they could have hidden it at that location. There are a bajillion students walking around that would have easily seen it if it was even remotely out in the open. They coudnt have burried it (ala pirate style) because a bunch of people digging up the university grass wouldnt look good. And people with tool kits unscrewing the bases of lamp posts wouldnt go over well either.

I turned over the little metal plates to water systems, lifted the poles out of the ground that kept people from driving east into a parking garage, looked under the bridge right before parking garage, checked both garbage cans on the opposite side of the street, kicked over gopher mounds, looked in trees, drain pipes etc for the better part of an hour. Looking like a goon whilst doing so I might add.

We need to find out how exact they are with the locations. I can go back there tomorrow with my hand held GPS and see if the lat/long match the google map. Oh, and there isnt a gamestop, game crazy, EB games anywhere in sight. Its ON the college campus.

Like I'm saying search a 1 mile radius from the point that is marked on the google and mapquest. If it is there it will be within that Circle.

A 1 mile radius of that point.....they cant be serious! That would cover the UW campus and it would take days to scour the area with a TEAM of people. and even if it was within a couple hundred yards of where the google map shows the point it would be to easily picked up by one of the Hordes of college students that are walking around aimlessly between classes.

Does anyone have a link to where they are giving hints like the london one?

The nice thing is that I am within a 10 minute drive to the location. What sucks is that since its a campus, its 12.00 per fricken day to park. I got lucky today and found an out of the way spot. Lucky I didnt get towed though.

Think about places that you wouldn't normally look, it's not going to way out in the open. But it's not going to be buried anywhere you can't find. And a mile is big but think about the logic even if it's within a half mile of the point you still have a lot of ground to cover. Don't be fixed on looking for just one thing look at everything and look for something out of place.

And i was thinking if you look at how many tabs there are it seems as though there has been a tab opening every day. Are these from the people finging the tags, or have they just been unlocking one tab every day now. Because i counted and that would mean if one is opening every day they would all be open by Nov. 3rd :eek: This whole thing is insane. Awesome but insane. and you guys should ask the dude from Hungary where he found the tag. HE might give you guys looking some help on what kinds of places they are hiding the tags. what was his name, i think xlRagnarlx

I spent an hour looking there at noon but found nothing. I 'm suppose to find a Crimson Omen right and then look for the cog tag like in the game?

On google i searched the exact dot on the map. It's upstairs near a metal curved arbor, there are lots of gardens around. On one pole of the arbor i found a piece of black tape and though maybe an omen was there but was ripped down.. but there were no paper rips left behind either so it might not have anything to do with it. The whole center of Union Square is under construction right (the horizontal line area with statue if you're looking at a satellite overhead view), so you can just walk around the outside adn the steps and of course gardens.

ON another GPS map, the dot is in the middle of the street. I wasn't about to look there :)

ANyway if the radius is bigger, i may go back and look again. No one has posted that they've found it so maybe it's still there. Anyway if anyone has any more clues.... i'd be happy to go look again, maybe a little better prepared next time rather than rushing out @ lunch from work haha. Was damn hot down there this afternoon, i needed a shower by the time i got back to work!

Try the areas around the stairs leading up from the street into that arbor area. Look closely on the left sides of the stair cases...maybe in and around the plants. Look around the staircases leading up from other point onto the square that are still accessible. Maybe from Post street.... or "Gear-y" street???? Wouldn't that be funny (punny)?

I saw the picture from xlRagnarlx and what he found. I was expecting and looking for something totally different.

I was expecting to see a Crimson Omen somewhere and then to start looking for the box that people had been showing their COG tag came in via the mail. But i guess what i'm suppose to be lookign for is just some paper package with the gears logo on it someplace. That's gonna be like finding a needle in a haystack, but i expect that's the point.

Well, when I looked on GPS about the San Fran one it shows up as. In Union Square on the side closest to Maiden Lane in or around the cafe with the glass roof. IF THAT Helps

That's exactly where I was today. The cafe is to the right of the steps, then there's tables all over the place. To the left is a utility building with a metal arbor structure , water drinking fountain and garbage can and the top part of one of the many gardens. I was standing right under the metal arbor roof with google maps open on my cellphone. I matched my location exactly with where the dot is on google maps. See the problem with this whole idea is there could easily be some jerk-off who just randomly found a tag laying around and took it. Especially in some populated places like UW or Union Square. I mean its not like Six Okay watches to see if someone finds the tag and asks them to enter the code. NO, It is the persons free will and it is a good chance that some people did not enter it.

Ok, well let me give you a little heads up. I have seen the WAR JOURNAL from Gears of War 2, directly linked to me from an album with loads of Gears 2 shots from someone who has the game early (I demanded a direct link to the image though, no way am I risking accidently seeing something).

This is running past November 7th. It seems it's happening like this.

Phase One was the tags sent to people throughout the press, Microsoft staff and MVPs. Also included are the E For All tags that were found.

This is now Phase Two. Phase Two is obviously these real world location tags, mixed with the code in the comic (and probably the book as well) and I presume some other hidden images/text as well.

Seeing this War Journal page of the unlockables, I can now tell you Phase Three will be linked to the game itself. Each COG tag in the game has a CSID number shown in the War Journal, which is obviously for this website (or at least I presume it is). Sounds like some stuff won't be unlocked till after release.

What code in the comic? I wanna know...plz?:o

At first when I saw the pay phone and chiefwiggum, I thought of 7-11. Since 7-11 is the only place where I know pay phones still exist and 7-11 did a movie tie-in for The Simpsons way back when it debuted. However, from reading all 107+ pages of this thread, my thoughts were quickly debunked. Not to mention the fact that the people at Epic would not use a trademarked character with their own promotion.

I just hope some tags appear in the midwest, preferably somewhere in the rural southwest suburbs of Chicago. I'm just sayin'... ;)

For those looking around Union Square in SF for the tag, I would only suggest that Union Square is not only on the surface. There is a parking garage *under* Union Square, and anything located at the coordinates on the surface might also be located at the same coordinates under ground -- waiting for emergence.

The identifier "chiefwiggum" has no real significance to us. All it is, is just the name the person entered along with the code from the cog they found that unlocked the payphone video. As for it being a payphone... it doesn't mean that they're going to place a cog by a payphone. (They could, but doubtful) I mean the satillite dish cog wasn't near a satillite dish. The "chiefwiggum" personhas yet to show up and tell us where they found their cog.

Sry bout the links hooli. But i just found a reference in video that epic posted. If you watch Enter The Horde video you will see a man holding a tag and on the bottom of the screen it says EVERY TAG TELLS A TALE go figure. It pops up right around 1:06-7 in the video.

That's got nothing to do with it. There are multiple tags around the world linked to each tab. Your reading too far into things.

Besides, the London coordinates are linked to the FIRST tab which has already been unlocked (the radar dish) by a COG tag in Budapest. Getting these will just be nice for whoever wants them, the tab they relate to has been unlocked already.

There are two tags there anyway in London supposedly, at that site, according to Six Okay.

congratz, yea the code that is on that cog tag should be the one that unlocked the satellite but the satellite was unlocked already by the one that was found in budapest. It would be awesome if you could tell how you found it I.E. if it was near a tree or something and if you could upload some pics. Hmm it is strange that the code is different. No it's just the one in Budapest had a ripped COG logo on a piece of paper lying on the ground underneath it that's all.

Think more Public Property, look for homes for Sale or For Rent those ones are more likely to have a tag hidden around them. Search by lightpoles, fire hydrants, and gutters or even a hole in the sidewalk.

It's a 4 level garage and level 1 and 2 have security cameras everywhere. I didn't really want to attract too much attention. But level 3 and 4 had no cameras that i could see, so i did a little more thorough job searching there, spending a lot more time under where the google map dot is. But nothing there that i could find. It's a huge area to cover with a lot of dark places, i need a flashlight but that might attract even more attention :lol:

Just got back from the UW location.

Right when I pulled up there was a student survey crew out taking readings and they had all thier gear piled up around the posts I needed to slide out and look under. After a bit of talking with them they even helped me with that stuff....no joy. I checked every crack and crevice on the bricks that line the road heading down into an underground parking garage.....nothing. I checked under a small bridge that has graffiti all over it HOPING that maybe the epic guys threw a crimson omen up there with the graffiti...nope. There are very, very think shrubs that line both sides of this road. I think they are to thick to really stash anything thing in. I stuck my arms up every drain pipe in the brick retaining wall, turned over those little heavy lids that say "water" on them that are about "8 in diameter. I even tried removing some of the larger bricks that were loose with the hopes it would be behind them, nope.

There is absolutely no place that I didnt check that is within '100ft of the lat/long point. Hell, even the underground garge is about 100 yards away and I went all the way down to it. judging from the pic taken of the London location, the COG couldnt have been more than 50ft from the long lat lines. I am guessing that who ever is placing these is going to keep that trend.

I have used 4 different map engines with the long/lat lines and they both produce the same results when inputting the lat/long. They all spit out one of two points. 2 of them put the point in the grass. So without breaking out a shovel and digging randomly in that spot.....I just dont see that happening. The other 2 put the spot right under the furthest north post in the ground (which I checked inside the hollow post itself and the ground that it goes into).

My theory is one of 4 things has happened:
1) Some average joe picked it up not knowing what it was and just said "cool" and threw it in his pocket.
2) It just flat hasnt even been placed yet.
3) It is so well hidden, we are going to need a hint.

Wasn't there supposed to be two COG Tags in the London area? One guy got one of them recently but we haven't heard of the second one yet. So eather it's still there, waiting, or this was the one ChiefWiggum found.

I wish that whoever EPic assigned to hide these things would daily or every other day check to see if the tags are still where they have been hidden and update a website saying the tag is still active or found. That way people aren't wasting their time looking for nothing.

As soon as I walked into the location (not having looked at Six's pictures at that point), I thought that it would be hidden inside the London Wall somewhere. But I thought the tag was meant to be exactly where the GPS marker was, so I spent ages rooting around in the undergrowth. All it was, was a location that wouldn't be particularly exposed and wouldn't risk any randomers finding it without specifically knowing it was there.

The location was basically a small park (like 50m square) with a few trees in it (and a vegetable patch - I did at one point consider digging around in it just in case they'd buried it!) and down one side of the park was a fairly dramatic old wall. The tag was in an arch of the wall that wasn't visible from the road. It was about 20m or so from the actual GPS location. Hope that helps a little.

Has noone else found the other London COG tag? Is there definitely another one there? Is it worth me going back to have another look for it?

Hey guys, just to give you some more help with finding the tags. With the London one, the location was relatively simple. As soon as I walked into the location (not having looked at Six's pictures at that point), I thought that it would be hidden inside the London Wall somewhere. But I thought the tag was meant to be exactly where the GPS marker was, so I spent ages rooting around in the undergrowth. All it was, was a location that wouldn't be particularly exposed and wouldn't risk any randomers finding it without specifically knowing it was there.

The location was basically a small park (like 50m square) with a few trees in it (and a vegetable patch - I did at one point consider digging around in it just in case they'd buried it!) and down one side of the park was a fairly dramatic old wall. The tag was in an arch of the wall that wasn't visible from the road. It was about 20m or so from the actual GPS location. Hope that helps a little.

Has noone else found the other London COG tag? Is there definitely another one there? Is it worth me going back to have another look for it?

Does this area get alot of traffic in the way of people?

The UW location is SATURATED with people ALL the time. It would have to be tucked away pretty well for the passer by. During the time I was there, hundreds upon hundreds of students are passing through that entire area.

Can't get on live tonight...lots of work to do after a misspent afternoon looking round a park in London! Just try to think about the location logically before you rush in and start looking. Btw, an iPhone would be massively handy if you have one - used it to find the exact location and how I found out about Six's pictures. Also btw, the London location was a public place, so I didn't have to root around in someone else's property to find it.

There was basically no passing traffic at all. A few vans passed by into an underground carpark about 15m away from the park. I have to say, if I hadn't have been directed there, I'd have had no idea there was a park there at all.

Check her flicker and see what her gamer tag is and then compare it the names listed in the Identifiers. I do know she works at xbox so she might have had a little "lead time" on finding it.

Redmond is actually alot closer to Seattle than that. I can get from Downtown Redmond to the UW in about 20 minutes.

So where has everyone looked at UW. I checked extensively around the actual coordinates, looked up around the fountain (not as well, but it sounds as though someone else had over the weekend), down the driveway to the garage, in the entrance to the garage, up over burke-gilman trail to the circle spoke area on the corner of pacific and montlake, and the garden. We really need confirmation on if this thing is even still there.
