Added, thanks Ace. Notice how the COGs from E FOR ALL had "EL" as the final part of the code, and these have "AO". Must be a different set of tags (another wave).

Do you know someone at Microsoft, or have any ties with them Ace? Or did you randomly just recieve one of these? If you randomly got it, do you have 1250 in Gears of War?

I'm just trying to work out what warranted you recieving one, might give us some insight into how people are getting selected to recieve these :)

Same thing happened to me. But with CSID code: 617461-ZMTDP-EL It gave me a Icon as listed on OP's first post.

But when I re-entered the code as: ZMTDP-617461-EL, I get the same steps that you get. The name I couldn't find out. I thought it might have been the name listed below the picture I got the code from on this Flickr site, but It didn't work..

Dont know if anyone's seen this before, I know I haven't, a new blue tab has been unlocked revealing a mural honoring a fallen Gear. A SGT. Gunnar Petterssen to be specific. His first name may of been Roberto as per the screen after clicking on the icon. Also next to his name it says "hero of Timgad". We know that Timgad is the Train station where Marcus And Dom Boarded the train that carried the LMB

First off, great GREAT stuff on the COG tag finds. I'll enter them as soon as possible and write up what they unlock.

But the big news is this. I have recieved an email with a very interesting message. It's in the style of the CSID entry form in an image with lots of random text, but the non random text reads:

This tells us a couple of things. The first is that Phase 2 is obviously about to start somehow, so we need to be on the lookout. The second thing is, what does being an Officer have to do with this? Will it affect the next wave? Something in the game itself looks more likely ("Report for duty on November 7th") but I'm still not sure on that one either?

Thoughts everyone?

Also a side note, tab 12 has unlocked as posted above to show a mural to a Gear: Sgt Gunnar Petterssen, Hero of Timgad. Timgad is the station where Marcus and Dom board the train, meaning he either died on the train (in Gears PC Anya says "The guards are being thrown onto the tracks") or he was piloting one of the Ravens. Thoughts on this too?

I just noticed the thread title about someone having the game early and MAJOR SPOILERS being contained inside. It's only a matter of time now before people start picking this up over the net, and we get some childish Sony fanboys coming in here to ruin our day by posting spoilers in topics and thread titles. While the mods will get alot of them, they won't get all of them instantly, and I'm not willing to take that risk.

So I'm out until November 7th. I'll try to keep an eye on this thread only as I've bookmarked it and I will update it as much as possible whenever I discover something. I just can't risk it guys, I don't want the story spoilt on me. If you find a code, be sure to post it up and stuff.

I'll stay involved as much as I can here :)

There is a new alternating code on the website. Both a co-ordinates for a map, backing up my findings from far earlier in the thread.

Note: This one seems a little out of the way, so I am trying to confirm this. The co-ordinates are correct however.

Someone needs to go take a look in these places ASAP! This is your chance to grab yourself a COG tag, and help the community. Later today, I will be forwarding this to major gaming news blogs if both have yet to picked up or no-one has said they are going to get them, to ensure the most dedicated Gears fans get the jump on this before the masses. It's only fair.

The co-ordinates add up to two locations:

The first one I'm pretty damn sure is correct, and pretty sure about the second. We need your help. Someone needs to go to these sites and pick up the COG tags. By going through the site code, I can confirm that the codes from these tags are needed to unlock the next pieces of the website. They are also labelled GPSLAT and GPSLONG meaning that I haven't got this wrong and I'm sending you on a wild goose chase. This is similar to the Halo 3 ARG that made you go to co-ordinates.

NOTE: I'll be reporting the story around 6pm GMT (12pm EST, 10am PST), so this is your heads up giving you the first chance to nab one of these. Remember, you don't have to have it by then, just let me know you are going for it in the LAST DAY thread.

Well by my investigations, it seems either one of these will unlock the first tab, the radar dish. We only need one of them.

Aceattorney, you could always go there and have a look for it. If you find it, take down the code, and leave it there. That way your helping the community and giving someone else a chance to find it.

BTW I got these co-ordinates off of the last day website. When you load it up, the co-ordinates flash on the first tab only (and they are for the first tab to be unlocked, by my investigations).

I found another latitude and longitude on the "page" with the payphone. They are: 47.6521 x 122.3065
But according to Mapquest, it's in the middle of no where in China!

So now these coordinates are showing up on different pages! What does it all mean?

If you put the 122.3065 as negative, you get a Seattle address.

Well, the odd thing about it is that the coordinate isn't negative in the flash, so the Seattle coordinates could be dead wrong and the cog is really in China in the middle of nowhere.

Still, I imagine it's worth the time to look around at the Seattle location just in case.

If look at the Satellite photos of the last 3 Here (http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/showpost.php?p=25565364&postcount=808) You can see that they are pretty far out to be events especially China's. Hungary actually looks like a bunch of Cogs stuck together. The only way to find out is to well check the locations.

My opinion is that I don't think the one in China is right. How the heck, and who has the time to place the "COG" there in the first place? Seattle is a more logical location using the negative coordinate. All the other "locations" are near civilization.

Not yet! And one might end up in Denmark, I wish I knew the time stamps of when they are going to release the tags. That's 5 in about 15 hours... I going to say next code appears around 1800 Arizona time.

You know something just hit me. This might have nothing to do with this at all, but there is a chance that it could be. In the most recent edition of gamereactor (denmarks largest gaming magazine) there was a big ad for gears 2. I notice a very small square where it says (translated of course) ''PLAY GEARS OF WAR 2 BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE! visit this website for more info'' extatic as hell i type in the website, but it says that there is no site called that. I quickly email them about this and i get this anwser (again translated) ''keep looking! the site will be up some time next week. Good luck'' good luck? I hope this is related, but it is a long shot. Anyway ill frequently check it starting monday and ill keep you guys posted on what it is.

I just scowered the location at the Univercity of washington and either someone grabbed it already or I completely missed it, but I gave that place a good once over. I mean I even looked under a metal grate in the road...

Did you check by the fountain? You have to think of things from the Gears universe and where would you position something like a COG tag? Budapest looks like group of Cogs stuck together.

No I didn't look by the fountian but the fountian is really far away from the coordinate. I mean like more than a football fields distance away. That seems like a needle in a haystack if that is the case to have the actual location be that far off. *shrugs* I'm not sure either way.

That is my key for this every location has something that looks like it is part of the Gears Universe, the fountain, the River in England, the Cog looking thing in Budapest, the Water tower in Reno. Look for those things and go from there. Hopefully the internet will be buzzing soon and we'll have the tags.

For all we know these co ord are just our "Crimson Omen" and simply means they are in the area.

would make sense if 1- they are hidden from view of the uneducated passer by, and
2- hell, there might be a omen hiding around! look everywhere!

Also, in london, if anything, its that bridge to the south of the co ord.

I don't think it has anything to do with it. I messaged Six about it and he told me:

I'm sure they're for asthetics only, but I'm going to comb through it later in case they hid a code or two in there.

As a note, I'm starting to think there aern't COG tags hidden around now. Reason being is, to my knowledge, this website is only in English. They wouldn't be hiding COG TAGS in China and stuff if that was the case.

Anyone else think the same? It could also be possible they didnt hide tags there, but they wrote the CSID down there. I'm kinda confused right now. I'll look into this.

Yeah, there were co-ordinates on the site for the Universal Citywalk in Los Angeles. (http://atlas.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?latlongtype=decimal&latitude=34.1365&longitude=-118.3521) Zoom in for a more precise location.

Waldo posted up a Google Maps image for the co-ordinates and it came up HERE (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=&daddr=34.1365+-118.3521&hl=en&geocode=&mra=ls&sll=47.657872,122.316113&sspn=0.027923,0.077248&ie=UTF8&ll=34.137319,-118.352014&spn=0.001072,0.002414&t=h&z=19), so it might be a good idea to have a look around that area if you can.

We don't know what your looking for though. Look for any of the following:

1) A crimson omen (the gears logo) as that could depict the COG TAG is near by, like in the games

2) The tag itself, it won't be in plain sight most likely, check around. In the Halo 3 ARG, someone apparently found one of the 100 codes in a phonebox lol

3) A code on the wall or just anywhere. The code will be in the format of XXXXXX-XXXXX-XX

There is no tag in China apparently they entered the code in wrong at first and forgot to add the negative. Hence why it was in the middle of no where in China, but that one turned out to be at the University of Washington.

Guys remember to look for something like a Crimson Omen or for something that could possibly resemble something from Sera. I have a feeling that the markers are general locations and the symbols will be within a mile of that spot. That's a lot of ground but you never know.

Six took my address, so it's a possibility I guess, but I'm not expecting it. For all I know they could just be sending me a letter with some clues or detailing the promotion thing, which is far more likely in my opinion. I would be happy if they just sent me a Golden Hammerburst code tbh haha!

In fact, since I've been promoted, I need a weapon. I should demand a NECA lancer and a COG tag to go with my promotion! Hahaha.

OK, so speaking of Tales, here's my misadventure, with photos...

After going back and forth all day as to whether I should make the trek to Universal Citiwalk to find out what the deal is with the coordinates, I decided to go ahead, brave the traffic, and go out on a limb.

I was hoping I could find something incredible - something like a COG Tag, but I don't know, something bigger. Thanks to Hooligan, all I had to do was to look at the satellite image, and find whatever it was that was there. Simple enough, right?

Since the satellite image was a top-down image, I had to familiarize myself with some of the other noticeable landmarks around the area. Equipped with my Windows Mobile phone, and my wife's iPhone, it didn't take long before I figured out that I was headed in the right direction. On my way to the coordinates, I looked curiously in all sorts of places - in a water fountain, behind bushes, in corners behind shops...

And on the way to the location, I noticed an EB Games, so without avoiding the obvious, I took some time to look around in the store. Sadly, the only thing related to GOW2 was this:

A dinky little cardboard stand. "OK fine," I thought - "this isn't going to be THAT easy."

So I proceeded towards the proper heading. After making sure I was in the correct area, I realized that the coordinates are at an area beyond a gate, with doors that were prominently marked with signs reading, "EMERGENCY USE ONLY - ALARM WILL SOUND."

I was so close. The satellite image showed road names, indicating the area beyond the gate was the Universal Studios Backlot - an area that is quite obviously restricted. I pushed open a door - no guts, no glory, right?

An alarm shrieked through the air, but undeterred, I walked through.

All sorts of people passed by the area, but somehow, I remained seemingly invisible to them. I searched that entire area high and low, looking for a sign, looking for anything that might clue me to what I should be looking for. It must have been at least a half hour before I realized that none of the trashcans, bushes, golf carts, or containers had anything.

There was nothing. No GOW Omen, no series of numbers, no COG Tag.

The only thing near the coordinates was that EB Games. And after I came back through the gate, I desperately asked one of the EB Games associates whether he was aware of any GOW2 marketing campaign. "We haven't received anything for GOW2, sorry," was his disappointing answer.

So Citiwalk was a bust. I combed a wide perimeter around the coordinates, to no avail.

Well, at least it was worth checking out...and who knows - it's quite possible someone beat me to it, and we just don't know about it yet. Here's hoping we get some more intel on these coordinates.

First off, that was an awesome story haha. Fair play to you on doing all of that, it was awesome and massive thanks for you even going out of your way to look for it.

Secondly, the fact it was meant to be in an area behind alarmed doors tells me we're missing the point here. I highly doubt anyone else would have risked that before you, so I think we're overlooking something. This matched with my previous point about languages kind of adds up to me as there are no COG tags out in the wild, like the Halo 3 ARG.

I think for now we should call off ALL searches. The London one looks like it's on an Industrial estate anyway, which isn't a good place to go snooping in the first place.

The thing is, I've already tried entering locations of the co-ordinates before and it hasn't worked. Is there some sort of map or army format of spelling locations that I don't know of?

I'm a little stumped right now. Let me think about it.

I'm going to get in contact with Six and ask him if he can confirm these are meant to be found outside or if we're on the wrong track. He probably won't say, but we need to know before people start going out of their way for nothing / do something stupid in an attempt to find a tag that get's them in trouble.

If he says they do, then it's not like he's just spoiled the whole thing is it? It just means we know people aern't wasting their time.

Something is bugging me, not that I doubt this has something to do with the Tags, but look at the Architecture and Terrain of all the Satellite Images I posted, The Universal Studio complex looks like a Mausoleum, Reno has resemblances to Land down, Seattle looks like the fountain from some of the concept art for the original Gears. What bothers me is that maybe there is no to the locations than just Tags or an Omen maybe they are more clues.

I've been using an atlas on mapquest and Google I just happened to use a mapquest map and followed the map to the track area on a satellite image and then I entered the lat and long code and bam found them. It was a really pain but I think we are getting close.

And I've found a glitch in the Last Day Program, if you move from the satellite or phone into the Raven the Codes continue changing within it I don't know if that means anything but it could.

I would have to say somewhere that no one would expect and no one would know. Look for stuff just lying around, check every store and venue, I have a feeling that it's hidden under something or around a far back area. Think about the first COG tags in the game and try to think where would you hide one?

Ok just thinking out loud here...this is a huge public venue - would they leave it in a place where it could be mistakingly thrown away or taken by someone who knows nothing about it?

I'd say it will be somewhere out of the way. Instead of looking for a physical object, I'd be more on the lookout for a symbol on a wall (maybe the COG logo or Crimson Omen?). Is there any staff people around from Universal? If so, asking them might help as Microsoft may have made them aware possibly so it wasn't removed?

Ok, well let me give you a little heads up. I have seen the WAR JOURNAL from Gears of War 2, directly linked to me from an album with loads of Gears 2 shots from someone who has the game early (I demanded a direct link to the image though, no way am I risking accidently seeing something).

This is running past November 7th. It seems it's happening like this.

Phase One was the tags sent to people throughout the press, Microsoft staff and MVPs. Also included are the E For All tags that were found.

This is now Phase Two. Phase Two is obviously these real world location tags, mixed with the code in the comic (and probably the book as well) and I presume some other hidden images/text as well.

Seeing this War Journal page of the unlockables, I can now tell you Phase Three will be linked to the game itself. Each COG tag in the game has a CSID number shown in the War Journal, which is obviously for this website (or at least I presume it is). Sounds like some stuff won't be unlocked till after release.

Well I've been up and down Citiwalk and have seen nary a Crimson Omen or anything. I've searched fountains, shops, storage areas, corners, and scanned high areas and low areas. If a Crimson Omen was painted anywhere, it would have to be with the consent of Universal - good idea to ask a Universal employee, but only shopkeepers seem to be around here.

Listen to Waldo! Seriously, this would make perfect sense. Firstly, they can be assured a gamer will find the COG if it's in a game shop. Secondly, it would be relatively safe if it was in there - most people would pick it up and think it was for sale. Would you walk out of a shop with something if you didn't know it was part of this campaign? Doubtful.

I know you went there before, but just have a look. A proper look. If all else fails, ask the manager. A general employee may not know.

Thanks to Ace, Waldo, and myself, it seems this has been cracked. I just checked the London one, guess what, it is RIGHT next to the coordinates. A Gamestation in Barking, which is on East Street, less than a minute away from the coordinates.

It's also within the grid of those coordinates. So here is the current theory and I'm almost 99% certain on this - ALL COG TAGS are in the nearest game store to the coordinates. If you find one Ace, that's pretty much my confirmation.

LOL thanks for the help but the wii wall graphic is a 'wrap' that covers the pillar. The pillar itself looks like it has some graphics painted on it - on all sides of the pillar. Looks like old Nintendo images. I asked another associate about any GOW promo and she said the only thing she was aware of was a trade in bonus for the pre-order.

Is there a Gamestop in the area? It's just because looking at the map for the London Gamestations, there is actually two within the grid reference of the coordinates so it's possible your in the wrong shop.

I'll have a look for you as well on a map but I'm not familiar with the Gamestop site.

I just checked the Last Day site again.

The London coordinates were fumbled just like the China/Washington ones.

The real coordinates are: 51.5178 -0.0949

This places the COG near London Wall and Aldersgate Street.

Ok so an update from the Univercity of Washington.

To date I've been out there 3 times. First time was to scope out a place where I thought the cog was only to find I was really off. So I went back printed out the location from the coordinates with the top down view.

Last night I scowered that location, I looked under grates, kicked piles of dirt, you name it. Nothing.

Then I read that the suggestion is that the tag is somewhere "near" where the coordinates are only it being a place that looks like a place in the game...<read: Fountian>.

I went back to the UW today and scowered the fountian area. So here's how it breaks down.

The fountian itself is a pretty big fountian and the water is super dirty and about 2 feet deep. If the tag was in the water there was no way in hell I was going to see it. Around the fountian are these cement benches. I looked under and behind all 6 or so benches. Behind each bench is a large flower bush with different kinds of roses. Since its getting colder there aren't many roses. I checked every flower bed, and also under and around the small hedge that surrounded each of the flower beds. Next to some of the flower beds were some small water drains with the standard metal grates. Nothing there either. I looked under and around all the garbage cans and the sun dial that was near the fountian. I checked the stair wells and little alley ways in the area...nothing.

I went back down to where the overhead map said the cog was supposed to be and from where its pointing that is where a row of metal poles are that are used to keep people from driving down this large ramp. The poles could be removed and so I checked underneath them. I also checked (again) under this small round metal plate in the center of the road that looked like a good hiding spot.

For the record, I didn't see a red omen, or anything that maybe a gears fan would be able to pick out. I found all the cog tags in gears and I was thinking...ok...where would a good place be to hide it? Yeah I looked in those places.

The general area around the UW location is packed with lots of bushes and Ivy and other plants, and tons of places it "could" be. If it was there, either someone got it (I mean it is a univercity...there is a good chance it was picked up). Or I'm blind as a bat, or...there's more to it.

I could speculate until I'm blue in the face but I'm saying that, I didn't see anything and I wasn't even really sure what I was looking for. I went into it with the idea that I was looking for a box that we've seen them come in from the gaming sites as of late. Yeah, No idea.

I'll do my best to be the eyes and ears for the Greater Seattle area, sorry I couldn't be more help.

This is a joke. If they are constantly changing these, it's bang out of order. People are spending time and money to visit these locations only to find the location has changed. What the HELL.

I'm planning on going to the London one tommorow. If I find out its changed when I get back and have spent travel costs, I will not be pleased. It costs a ton to go to London, seriously.

Questions:

1. Do we know for a fact that these locations are Cog tag locations?
2. How do we know if the Cog has been found already?
3. If and when a Cog is found what is the "red flag" as it were that points this person to said Cog?
4. If these are the Cog locations, are they the exact location of said cog? Or are they in the general area? If so how far of distance are we expected to travel?
5. Is there any other data that we have not from the /lastday coordinates that we can use to flesh out what the coordinates are? - MAybe the comic book, or other information released from Epic.

Me just thinking out loud: I take this like a treasure hunt, but normally in the treasure hunts you find a note and it leads you to the next location type thing. Or something. This leads me to wonder if going off of an earlier idea that these are going to be used for a different purpose. Mind you all of this is coming from the fact that I've been to the UW 3 times in the past 2 days and haven't found $#!+.

Side note: I noticed that when you click on the videogame the "Identifier" when its all loading up used to be "Arya" (or something like that) and now its "P3T3RM4RW00D". I looked on line and all I found was this blog site of sorts where this dude's 360 talks about how it misses him....I'm not sure what to think about that.

It seems there is speculation about the "I" characters real first name but it is mentioned on that page to be "Peter". I've been reading this thread for the past few days and I honestly can't believe that they would leave a little black Gears box lying around in public. If anyone remembers a few years ago (I think) there was a big bomb scare in Boston when it turned out to be nothing. It was just some sort of marketing campaign. This leads me to believe that if some random person was walking around and saw that box they would freak and maybe call the cops. In addition, it would be way to easy for someone to find the box and just take it not knowing what it was.

There has to be something were missing.

to waldortk7 and krol146, I didn't mean there were tags or gears hidden at these locations - but that assuming they are at Games stores within 1 minute or few from the locations with confirmation, that was just the theory.
Yes, Epic has confirmed something is hidden at these places, but we don't know details. porkfry's list (http://gearsforums.epicgames.com/showpost.php?p=25567664&postcount=952) above lists the questions we still have.

Hooligunn - you said those three got them from E for All... I remember seeing one person saying they got a CSID from the competition, but that was for one of the CSID's we have already, no? Not an unlockable...

What about looking at the last two chars of the codes? So far we've got "AO", "EL", and "PM".
The "9A" code was found in the GoW2 journal.

I'm thinking that there are 9A codes to be found, and the first enter the code with the right name 'unlocks' that code and gets credit for the find.
Just a theory: the codes are found in Gears of War 2 as cogtags - as shown from the journal (that is a clip from the game right?) - but they aren't associated with their (x-)owners. So find them in real life, provide the name of its owner, and you get the cred.

New thought... The 9A code is from the journal, if you look on the host page is says the name chris. I put the code in did the veri screen and put the name chris. my screen went all blurry the first time then quickly scrolled thru alot of co-ordinates and finally stops on "CSID NAME ALREADY FOUND" could we be getting new content soon?

Okay. New here, but I've been reading these post for the last few days. You guys have been doing awesome work.

Don't know if this is stupid, but when people are going out to the GPS coordinates, is anyone looking to see if there are things from the last day site. For example a payphone that looks like the one on the site. Or the "Lunch" sign. A Sat dish? Maybe something is written on a payphone near by or on a sign?

I also thought, since Microsoft is partially behind this, maybe they are partial to us using their LiveSearch site to pull up maps. I tried and I can't really tell if the info is any different. I did notice that if you switch to birds eye view for the Univesity of Washington location, the fountain is empty. Do they drain it for the winter? Could that be relavent?

Anyway, just some new thoughts

I'm so crazy about this sh*t :), and my english isnt too good...

if that's a found tag from a physical location, it's not the same as the ones people were sent. This one would have (private) steps for unlocking content and getting cred. Once that's done, then sure, share away :)

im not sure there is a tag in london all the codes are gone now

Only one of the codes has gone, the tags themselves will still be there (unless Microsoft picks them up tommorow because that bit is unlocked). All it is, is there are about 4 tags linked to each tab that displays codes. Entering ONE unlocks it, but the tag itself is still there waiting to be collected.

I just want to have an idea of the kind of location it was found in, so I know where to look when I go to the coordinates. Was it outside, inside, in a game store, under a bench, that sorta thing.

Yeah sure. It's asking for your name just to tell people on the site who's gametag unlocked which tab. Nothing more. It's more for "HEY LOOK WHAT I DID" bragging rights, than for something. You haven't missed anything :)

Thats what I was getting at with my first post. Like the payphone on the site. The Crimson Omen is up and to the left of the payphone. In the real world, could the crimson omen be up and to the left of an actual payphone?

There is another one on a building to the right and behind some gas pumps. Could there be one hiding near a gas station (possibly in future coordinates?)
and so on.......

Just some more thoughts. If coordinates ever pop up in the Chicago area, maybe I could do more then just speculate......

I must say im surprised the citywalk one wasn't the 1st found since its not exactly a empty area, the mapquest map shows its location in front of the cafe.
I guess the cog found explains where best place to look is and not to expect the cog to be in a box, I think the box was only sent to the people through the mail...

No, that wouldn't be the case. The point of the multiple tags is for two reasons.

1) Having 4 chances of someone redeeming the code instead of 1 is much better.

2) Some people might get the tag and not enter the code. If there was only one tag it would screw the rest of us over.
