theres 2 stories to alcatraz... one was the one u said, in which we went out and looked for it and mec was talking to the workers on alcatraz and was later contacted by them and thats how xXull got her cog tag... but what i dont understand is that how did she get the alcatraz tag when the other guy on here(AlcatrazCOGtag) said he got it! and had lots of pics of it!...

I was looking at the pictures on the Gears 2 Widget and one of them is of that troll under the bridge in Seattle with the COG in it's eye. I thought that COG went missing? When did this picture turn up?

The troll has a metallic plating for it's left eye (right from the front). I think the image in the widget after the troll shot shows it was on a horizontal surface on the troll somewhere. If so, that tag would have gone missing quickly between all the tourists/kids that climb all over the statue for photo ops. Otherwise, it could have been any number of homeless folks that live behind it under the bridge.

Pork, you are right, if the COG was simply laid on top of the left hand, then that would be smack tab in the open for ANYONE to take because yes people do crawl all over it for photos, etc, so my guess, if Six didn't place it, but rather have someone place it, they didn't really give much thought about the fact that a ton of people go there every day to take their photo and probably would have been taken within minutes of being set there. Perhaps one of the homeless people took it, and maybe has it around their neck to scare away the Kryll at night. It does suck that there isn't any official notice that it has been found....and I still vote for some to be placed on the Eastside here in Seattle.

Not sure if anything related to the COG's would be listed as I haven't had a chance to read it. It is written by Joshua Ortega with whom I have met a few times, super nice guy, and lives fairly close to me. Maybe if you don't end up getting a COG for all your help here, I can see about getting you an autographed copy of the comic.

Sorry for the delay, I tried to update the situation from my phone, but it's not really built for the net....

Anywho, to start off, morning search was unsuccessful. We got to the point around 9:00, had a good search around the area (which I deduced to be around the small residential area next to Toynbee Hall, on commercial street) for little over an hour and then headed off to the Expo.

At about 12:30, the first clue was given, we hurried down to where the clue led us - the portakabin toilets! There were about 5 or 6 other people down there at the same time, taking their turns looking through the gents (with one of my friends being the only girl i think, looking through the ladies). 2 minutes in, everybody looked clueless, I was still in one of the toilets when my friend shouted to me, I walked out and she was holding the tag! It was one of the set of steps leading up to one of the portakabins, which everybody had been blind to, just stepping over.

We had people (including me) out looking for the windsor assumption park COG tag as soon as the information was released that there was one placed there.

You'd have to be retarded to not know that the riverside walk area is a very high traffic area as far as small cities go.

So after many hours of searching, on behalf of myself and all the others who went out searching tirelessly for this Cog in Windsor, Assumption Park: To the person(s) who hid the Cog Tag in the first place: You are an asshat, you wasted our time, you're an idiot, and I hope a you're never entrusted by anyone to do anything like this again. Also, I hope for your sake you don't let anyone find out who you are.

It's all good, maybe he just randomly picked people. I mean look at Waldo, the guy has thousands of posts, does a lot to help everyone out in their search for cog's, and doesn't have a cog for himself. I don't know Six personally, funny thing would be if I did through one of my contacts at MS, but I am sure he is doing his best to satisfy everyone and I am sure he would give everyone a cog here if he could. Who knows, maybe he will come launch day, but in the end, it's all good. That Gears 2 XBOX is pretty cool, I wonder what contest he has planned though.

I have you beat on that.....when I was searching for the first cog at the UW, despite the fact that it wasn't even there anymore but we all didn't know that, I spent a lot of time around those pillars, where the second cog tag was then placed, and I didn't even know about it until I read Nata posted he found it. Why they planted a second cog across the street (literally) from the first one is rather puzzling to me.

thats what i was thinking... has the 360 been tested of its full power or not? is call of duty 4 and gears of war 2 the best it can do? im not saying nothing bad about the developers AT ALL! GoW 1+COD4+GoW 2= the best graphics ive EVER seen! i can run crysis on this pc, but i have never actually seen it on Ultra High... but thats different of course... its a pc game.

and as for the 360 accessories, the only extras ive bought for my 360 is the play n charge kit and messenger kit... my black mic that came with my elite broke(almost a year later so it was good while it lasted... good time for a standard cheap looking mic... even tho they are expensive! lol) so i bought the messenger kit cuz it came with not only a mic which i needed but the cool chat pad...

I am not sure if everyone knows this, but the first issue of the "Gears of War" comic book came out a few weeks ago. It is a monthly ongoing series so the second issue should be out in a few weeks. Not sure if anything related to the COG's would be listed as I haven't had a chance to read it. It is written by Joshua Ortega with whom I have met a few times, super nice guy, and lives fairly close to me. Maybe if you don't end up getting a COG for all your help here, I can see about getting you an autographed copy of the comic.

I think "investment" would be the right word to use. There really isn't any investment potential in these, they are more designed for fans of the game, it isn't a piece of gold that will continue to rise in price. The cog tags will decrease in price, so those who really are feeling the urge to "buy" one, I would simply wait. This applies to just about every hot "collectible" (not all though) that comes out there. Look at the Tickle Me Elmo dolls. A few years ago when they came out, they were commanding three times retail. Within a month or so after it's release, they were selling for regular retail. That is just one tiny example. Look at "hot" concert tickets. Some people buy them and sell them right away to make their profits, others wait and think they will get more if they wait closer to the actual concert. This doesn't happen anymore, the closer you get to a show, the ticket prices get lower and lower because a ton of people scramble to sell them, so they drive the prices down themselves.

The cog tags will come down in price, trust me. After the game is released the hype comes down, those people who have one that want to eBay it, won't get nearly as much, but they will probably take what they can get, so my guess is you will find them for around $100 soon enough on there.

eBay hasn't killed the market, it has opened the market up to a much larger audience. I have my issues with eBay, oh trust me on that, and I do feel they cater to the buyers, and not the sellers, which is quite baffling since eBay makes their money from the sellers, not the buyers. We all need to remember the old saying of "supply and demand" and the cog tag, while limited to only 1000 pieces, is a "promotional" item, therefore something that wasn't sold in stores, which right there drives the prices up.

Actually without demand, there is plenty of supply. To the person who said he was thinking about buying one at $500 on eBay, personally, you would not only be throwing away $500, but you will then help to drive the prices in the wrong direction. If others see that someone paid $500, then they will start raising their prices, but trust me, within a month or two, they will come down in price. It is all hype right now, fans are scrambling to get one just like they would buy a Wonka bar in hopes to get a golden ticket. Sure, I would like to have one, but I am not going to "buy" one. I would rather try and find one, which is what they promo is geared (no pun intended) for. Hopefully more get planted in Seattle, and not where hundreds of people walk by every day (cough...cough UW and Troll locations).

what you're missing Jugger is that they are collectibles. "Value" is only as much as people put on them.

-Tickets for events are useless after an event. (but you may find collectors who will pay an arm and a leg for a momento from a favourite concert, especially if it's a "one of a kind")

-Tickle-Me Elmo can still be mass-produced. (but when they stop getting produced, you may find someone decades down the line who would pay an arm and a leg for a rare, high quality tickle-me-elmo)

value is all in the rarity and uniqueness of an item. If you want a lot for something, you've gotta find the people who value that something. COG tags dont' "get" you anything - they are pure collectibles. Worthless to people who don't place value on the Gears of War brand. If Epic dies out and GoW flops or disintegrates in the future and is forgotten, then sure the value may likely drop... but only if people won't pay high prices. If I have one, and I won't sell it for less than $500, then someone may consider that a legitimate 'value', especially if there's no others for sale, or at least at that price.

So I'd say yeah, it's worth collecting and keeping, IF you place value on it. If you're doing it purely to sell for $, then you'd better sell pretty quick, because who knows how much people will value them in the future - that is, it's a risky investment, not a doomed one. ;)

Yes, trust me I understand the philosophy behind "collectibles" and "value". What I was pointing out was the usage of the word "investment". A cog tag isn't a stock, it isn't something that will appreciate over time, like a commodity like gold, etc. It is hot NOW, but with a limited base of collectors. The majority of people, even a lot of fans of Gears of War more than likely don't even know what a cog tag is. Sure, it is a collectible, and there is value to it (mainly set by those willing to pay for it) but the demand will die down, sooner rather than later. In a few months, you won't see people spending several hundreds of dollars for it. Sure, there will always be a value set on them, but the top dollars are being paid now for it. And my examples were general examples of how that applies to other items, from concert tickets to tickle me elmo's, etc. What I was showing that everything is "hot" in the beginning, but then demand waves, and supply gets plentiful. Sure, concert tickets are worthless AFTER the event, that wasn't the point I was trying to make, but leading up to the concert, supply increases, demand decreases.

Yes an item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If someone had a cog tag and was hoping to get as much as possible, now would be the time....the time leading up to the game's launch and while the game is still fresh. As soon as the game has run it's course, the demand for a cog tag won't be nearly as high as it is now. To a collector who doesn't want to sell it, sure, it is priceless, it is something they have and won't part with it. We all probably have something like that in our collections. For me it is my original movie posters for Field of Dreams and Dance with Wolves autographed by Kevin Costner, my original pages of artwork from The Crow comic book series, and a few other collectibles.

Who knows what the demand will be in the future for the COGs.

It's an investment if someone wanting to sell it takes the risk in the hopes that down the line the value will increase if asking the right people. It may very well decrease. It's still an investment... investments aren't guaranteed to always increase in value.
Sure, there's a good chance the value will go down, but again, that's why it's a risky investment. I would reommend, as you said, to sell now while the value is high. It's like a tiny stock :P, but with a strong chance for downturn in the near future, but still with potential for high value in the long run... as long as you chat with someone who holds high value in it :)

That said, I would recommend 'investing' in the cog tags. Collect it and save it. Give it away. Or if you want money and don't care if people hate you, sell it now for your best chance at a high return ;)

Yikes, you are comparing a cog tag to an Amazing Spider-Man #1? That is like putting the words "Tara Reid" and "Academy Awards" in the same sentence. I understand what you mean by your comments, but realistically the cog tag will more than likely never be worth what it is today. Again, just my thoughts and opinions of course. Remember how everyone was going on about the limited edition Halo 3 bundles? Sure, there were many more made than 1000, but people were saying how valuable they would be in time, and how collectible they would be. Now? They are worthless, stores still have them and they barely get $39.99 each.

If someone wants to take that "risk" in hopes a cog take will be much more valuable down the road, sure, they have that right, but it wouldn't be the smartest decision made. I would rather take the money and invest it in something else, such as Gold, or a stock, not a promotional item that very few people know about. My guess is the majority of people who find a cog, people like Nata, are collectors, and appreciate it and value it for themselves, in their collections, not about the money it will bring down the road. Those are the fans who wanted it, and found one through this marketing campaign that they have no actual money invested in it, but their time, and their passion for it, outweighs the demand for a few bucks.

Of course others simply want the money they can get for them, and I don't blame them. If they have found something, and they know they can get top dollar for it, can you really blame them? I mean, they may be just as big fan wise than anyone here, but perhaps cash is something they need, and with our economy being in the toilet, you can't really blame someone for selling it if they find one.

You may as I have a feeling most people on your side of the country may still be at work, so you probably have a good chance. But keep an eye out on Waldo's posting about his updates, he does a good job updating when one is found. Still, you may run the risk of searching for something that isn't there like we did here in Seattle in searching for the first UW cog that was picked up the day it was hidden, but wasn't announced that it was found until four days later. Cog search at your own risk. ;-)

Waldo just sent out a twitter that a second NYC COG was just bought. Any info on this?

The two that have been bought so far are Taxi's from 2old2play and ChrisA9's (from a drug dealer, going by what Waldo said on his twitter). I'm not sure about any others.
