MIT has all those students, it would probably be the same as the UW one and picked up by someone. And the City Hall one has tons of foot traffic all day i'm sure, really high chance of it getting picked up.

So if it were me, i'd be going for the commonwealth one.

Thats a great idea! Like a few of the others said, give one to waldo. But I'd say do as you said, and wait for the end to see if he gets one of his own. He's said time and time again he wants his own adventure more than the cog. So lets see what happens with that.

Congrats on finding two, and that is quite generous to give the extra one you have away here. As I stated before, and I think everyone will agree, Waldo is the most deserving of one, for all his hard work and support, and helping others in finding theirs. Now, if you plan on giving one in order of age, I think I have everyone beat. LOL! But seriously, Waldo should be the first on your list.

Hopefully some new Seattle ones will be posted. I mean, how about one on the Eastside, say Woodinville perhaps? With Microsoft's heavy presence on the Eastside I am hoping one (or twelve) will pop up around here.

You mean the one at the Troll location? Because it sounds like it has been picked up but just not reported. Remember the first one placed in Seattle at the UW which was done so I believe on a Sunday or Monday ended up being found the same day, but wasn't reported found until the following Thursday, so a number of us searched for four days straight not knowing it had already been found.

I have checked the Highway 99/Troll location, as a few others have, and nothing could be found. If we had some sort of clue as to where it could be, it would help. Remember while it is a compacted area, there are a number of tourist folks who go to that Troll to take pictures, plus the homeless have a presence there and quite possibly someone who lives up under the highway found it and didn't know what to make of it.

I would like to think it is still there, but with the highway, surrounding homes, the troll, there could be a million different places it could be. I have to guess it would be laying out in the open like others have been, and if that was the case, surely it was picked up by someone, possibly someone who isn't a part of this forum or have any idea what it is they found.

Hopefully, if more get planted here in Seattle, they choose to put them in areas with less foot traffic as so far the UW and Troll spots are locations were a large number of people frequent daily.

Hey Folks, I am home and just finished a beer to celebrate! I will post the full story later, but huge thanks to Bushmaster for the continuous beta. I ran into at least one other "hunter" (did you talk to a bald guy in a blue jacket ck? If so, that was me). I spent about an hour and a half there and didn't find the COG until after dark. I was afraid that Avartrix would show up and get it! :) That guy was booking! As Bushmaster indicated, I tried to "hire" several college age guys and at least two bums to help me look. One of the homeless guys told me "Yeah, I saw that thing about two months ago", hehe. This location was really prime. Called Carmen (think Carmine) Park, Holocaust Memorial, next to Government Center, which is like a concrete fortress.

I will keep hunting if any more show up in Boston and will most definitely offer any additional COGs I get to someone in this community.

Yes right across the street and behind some bushes were the roman cathedral pillars I talked about in my first posting about the first night my nephew and I searched. They ended up placing the second COG behind but on the base of one of those pillars. Since I was away from the thread when the second was announced, Nata used warped speed to get down there since he knew exactly where it was, as we all spent a lot of time down there so he ended up getting it. Yeah, I agree, rather odd to place two COG's right by each other.

Trust me Legendary Pictures has the money and they are on the Warner Brothers lot. Money is nothing to these companies, they see the hot property that Gears is, and know it will be a money making machine and I will pretty much go on record now as saying there will probably be a trilogy of Gears of War films.

yeah. i looked all over the holocaust memorial and didnt see it but i didn't want to be too disrepectful so i decided to run (i literally ran from there to comm ave) and apparently he had already found that. i live right by gov center so i was there right away and didnt see it. it was definitely easier looking in the daylight. i figured some tourist had found it there is why i ended up leaving. plus i felt creepy looking aorund in the dirt. though at comm ave it was entirely dark and i felt like the locals thought i was a mugger. i was like behind the trees looking and climbing the staute to see if it was on him. oh well. i think i am actually sick now though. i have been coughing like crazy. i didnt wear a warm jacket which was dumb but i rushed out in quite a hurry lol. this sucks because i asked sixokay on twitter earlier today "how about some boston cog tags" and then i was home to see him post the locations, went to two locations and got nothing lol. oh well. at least the tourists didnt get it.

yea but for me, i live like 1 hour from san francisco(u should see the traffic... since im going south... ITS INSANE!!!!!!! with the golden gate bridge and all) and well if they put all of the "northern cali" cog tags in san fran and not more up north then by the time i get to san fran they will all be gone(im considering myself of the northern cali team ;)...) because all san fran cog tags so far, are hidden in places were HUNDREDS of people walk by! =/... like the alcatraz one. We are lucky that a "guard" found it before a tourist! lol in which there were ALOT! there that day...

I remember reading a while ago that the plan was to have a Halo game out, followed by a Gears game out the following year, and then another Halo related game, etc. Kind of as if they were leap-frogging one another. It makes sense since Gears 2 is next month, followed by Halo: Recon in November 2009. I would not be surprised if we see a Gears 3 in November 2010, possibly to coincide with either the film's theatrical release or DVD release. I don't believe we will see a new system launch at that time, BUT if we did , it would make for a launch title which would defiantly help move the next-gen system.

There is an old saying "good things come to those who wait", but also one "patience is a virtue". Not saying we will all get a COG here is we just sit back and ask nicely, but perhaps SixOkay knows who the fans are here and "may" make it happen for all, or some. I have already given my two cents on who is the most deserving here, that being Waldo, but all of us have dedicated our time and effort (and miles) trying to find one, so hopefully in the end, it will pay off. It is unfortunate to think that some of these COG's are ending up in the hands of people who have found them by mistake or have no idea what it is they found (not saying this is the case, but it could be), such as the Troll one in Seattle. I would think by now someone would have come forward with it, but then again, maybe someone found it not knowing what it was and perhaps tossed it away.

Or, it could still be hidden there, but the question regarding "there"....is where!?

I don't know, my comment was in reference to what someone posted here recently about a 1000 being hidden. I don't know if that was fact or fiction, but based on the post, I have to believe the poster was saying "1000 were hidden". To me, it sounds way too high.

There are NOT 1000 tags being hidden. There are 1000 tags TOTAL. Between the ones being sent out, hidden, and given to gamestop and the like. As Six said in his blog.

Exactly. It's turned this whole thing into a joke and has ruined the whole thing in my eyes in all honesty.

Go out of your way to find something special, or walk up to a guy in a store and go "HAI I want a tag". It's an absolute joke. All the people on this site who have spent their time, money and effort to acquire something special have just had their faces spat in by Microsoft marketing.

Yes I would have to agree, chances are those employees will either keep it for themselves, or perhaps tell their friends to come in at a certain time and look for a certain employee wearing the button. It is a nice attempt at the marketing but I highly doubt "joe average" fan of Gears will get one this way. Once one of these employees check eBay, they will quickly tell a friend to come in to the store, etc.

How often does the store maneger answer the phone in game stores over there?

I mean, there's a big chance that only the managers know about the whole deal at this point and they are the ones in possession of the COGs. When the managers thinks it's time, they might not have told thier employees about it untill then at the last minute (so that they don't tip their friends to come and collect).

And I really don't see how this makes searching for hidden COGs less awesome. Which story would you rather tell, the one where you checked websites for coordinates and clues to help you in your hunt for a COG hidden in cool places or the one where you so skillfully figured out what time some stupid clerks were going to give away a few COGs.

I have traveled almost 90 miles throughout the city of Chicago. I have visited all locations of two retailers completely and countless others.

I gave up on the search in the retail outlets, in Chicago, at least for today. Some retailers actually seemed to have gotten upset with me returning and questioning if a COG happened to appear.

When I tried to interrogate him to ask him more specific questions he said that he cannot confirm but can only share something was received. When I had arrived at the store at opening, this morning. The associate told me that they never seen anything like it and to try Game Stop up the street.

I returned to several locations as I was making a run, as Six had said you had to be at the right place at the right time, so I continued to try my luck. It seemed that associates seemed to get annoyed by me and seemed to talk amongst themselves...I could only guess what they were saying. One associate from Game Crazy (another location aside from the first location that I had visited) actually took an angry tone with me when I returned. "So what is this all about?" I explained myself. "So it's basically a collector item?" I said, well, depends how you look at it. I just want it as a fan. "Look, I'm not trying to hide anything from you. We don't have it." I said sorry and that I was only going on a hunt, trying my luck.

Needless to say, it was then when I was disheartened and gave up.

I'm not upset. The hunt was fun and I didn't have to sit in traffic, so I can't complain. I just wish things were a little more concise. I understand that you can't get any more clearer than having retailers mapped out for you, but often times you're matched with someone staring at you as if you have a third eyeball not understanding one word you are talking about. Not to mention, Six did say you have to be at the right place at the right time, above all. But I guess what one associate said hit home hard, whether it be true or not: What is stopping an associate for claiming them for themselves or passing them off to family or friends?

If the Tag is missing and no one claims they have it within 3 days we move the tag into the MIA section which this one was. Like other people said, most likely they're keeping them for themselves. But there must be someone out there willing to do things as they're supposed to.

And man, that was a real hunt, eh?

No problem. Like I told EnforcerX19 on the board, over AIM. I was determined to not come home empty handed today. I only gave up when I seemed to be stepping on some toes. Thought it was the best for not only my efforts, but for the efforts of all the others in the hunt. Considering my visits and the phone calls from other people (as Drew had posted that his wife was calling Chicago stores), they were most likely getting tired of being hassled over the phone and in person.

And yeah, it sure was a real hunt that spanned over 7 hours, including lunch. Went from S of the city, to N of the city, to heart of the city to S of the city, back to the heart, S of the city, back home. Like I said, at least I had fun. Wish the retailers would have shared in the excitement. There were only a few who seemed genuine and truly wanting to find out and help me out to determine whether or not they were participating in the promo.

As of my finds: All but two claim they weren't participating in any such promotion. And to clarify my visits: All Game Crazy stores and all Circuit City stores in "Chicago" were personally covered. Along with a handful of GameStops and Best Buy stores. I even visited a Circuit City and two GameStops outside of Chicago, but still within the "Chicagoland" area. Which begs the other question: Is it limited to just stores with Chicago as a city, or will it extend to stores that can be considered Chicago, just not Chicago proper? It's all very vague. For example: The Best Buy in Burbank, IL is usually one doing a lot of promotional events and pilots. Though it's not "Chicago," it is a part of the greater Chicagoland area.

Anyway, I don't want to go off too much on a tangent with my failed efforts. Go find those tags, America! (Follow Waldo's lead, soldiers.)

I entered one of the codes since several unlock pics and wps, and it turns out that that specific code unlocked content *in* the site. So when the thing asked for the name, I just hit the escape key.

Sounds like getting them at the stores will be just as hard as hunting them down with GPS.

I was talking with my brother over lunch. It almost seems that you would have greater odds finding them with GPS, because at least someone who isn't a fan of video games doesn't get their hands on it before it's meant to transfer hands. (Game Crazy and GameStop for sure has employees that are fans of games in general. As for Best Buy and Circuit City, you have younger employees that will most likely find it a cool piece of swag, even if they keep it as a paper weight and could care less about the game. That was our theory, anyhow. As somewhat confirmed by one Associate's comment, as posted in a previous post.)

There are no BB, CC, GS of GC stores actually located in the city of Detroit. The closest are in Dearborn and other surrounding suburbs, so it's really up in the air as to where they were shipped. I can only assume some may have been shipped to suburbs, as Detroit has no stores.

I would drive 3 hrs to get a GPS cog but I won't drive that far to find out some retard at a store just kept it to himself. I have checked some of the Chicago NorthWest 'burb locations like Crystal Lake and Algonquin. Most GS, BB and CC employees had no Idea what I was talking about. The BB in Crystal Lake, IL said they were not in the "Chicago' region, maybe closer in like Schaumburg. He said that Schaumburg was in the "Chicago" Region. Might try them Sunday. Micaelb, did you come out as far as Schaumburg?

Just a thought on the COGs being handed out all those stores currently. Seems there is a lot of people asking and the stores are playing dumb. Maybe part of the promotion is that they have been told to deny it, after all, part of the 'game' to this is being in the store at the correct time, and not calling ahead.

Also, maybe just a manager knows, and will let the staff know just as he tells them to wear this badge, and if people ask, give them one of these awesome heavy COG things?

Oh, and I am definitely sure store employees will be taking off with these. I just don't think every single one will be lost this way.
