They can only be used on the xbox, you can't type them into xbox.com. Theonly codes that work right now on xbox.com are ones for Gold Subscriptions. Once the NXE comes out though, you'll be able to type those codes into xbox.com i think.

I have a question though, since these are tours, how are you guys going to look for the cog tag. Don't they force you to stay with the group. I can get more info on this though because my gf just went to cali and took the tour of alcatraz. =/ figures she couldn't of went now lol

sigh, you order your tix online, go down to the pier, wait for your ferry, ride on over, get your orders from the ranger guy, then you hike around for a while. Last boat's at 3:30, so if you're gonna go today, you better get moving. Tours usually sell out in advance. Alcatraz is pretty cool though, so after you get your tag, do the tour. Hell, I'd go, but I got this work thing going on right now and can't bail for 3 or 4 hours. But have fun. Like I said, team bay area, we all gettin cogs.

Like I said before, it's likely that the reason that there are so many bay area ones is the fact that the advertising company has an office in San Francisco. While it is possible to send the cog tags elsewhere to hide, it would be easy if that office was dedicated to advertising for GOW2 to just hide them all within office distance, no?

Once you're there, you can wander aorund. They usually have tours focused on different themes and what not but you can go off on your own as well. The last boat going out there is at 3:30 today so probably the last one coming back is 4:30 or 5:30. Short day on Tuesday. There are tickets available for the 1:10 ferry.

With the picture that shows the cog and the poster, it shouldn't be hard to find. Looks like they had earlier boats out there but those are all sold out, 1:10 is the first boat available with room on it. $26 is the ticket cost.

I have mixed feelings about the photos. It's nice to have them so you're not needlessly wasting your time looking for something someone already found.

But i think some amount of time to find it with just the GPS coords would be good and then post a picture later after a day or so. Remember we need the numbers to advance the website so having one stay out there for a long time leaves parts of the site locked to us.

But in this case, alkatraz is huge and there are thousands of places something like this could be hidden. Since it's heavily populated with tourists, it NEEDS to be hidden well which would make it almost impossible to find just with GPS coords.

There are 2 "Alcatraz Tours" just so you guys know... one actually lands at The Rock, the other just goes around it. thing is, there's usually a loooong wait list for the one that actually lands, like you need reservations. That is, it's definitely not an arg at this point, so don't expect argish stuff. perhaps bits of puzzle/problem solving here or there, but it really is just now a game of finding the tags and unlocking content. that's about it.

And his annoyance is well-placed, IMO, about so much happening around the SF area. That doesn't mean anyone's time should be spoiled, but it's just that most of the action right now is happening in the Bay area. Why? Because if Six is actually hiding these (or others from the office), that's where they are. Stuff is happening elsewhere, just not as frequently.

Granted it was more fun when the '4th wall' existed and we only got new info from the website rather than from people running the campaign, but now that it's at that point, then expect that and nothing more... have fun with the way things are now.

That said, annoyance is only as big as one's passion to be involved as much as other people are. It's the "I want one too!" mentality that gets people bitter when other people keep getting more. Not much to do about that... only the organizers can remedy that if they see fit, or the community mods can kick and ban to their hearts content. Hopefully it never degrades to that level.

Every campaign will have rough spots. Don't jump down people's throats for complaining, but try to see the point that's being made; and, don't complain just for the sake of complaining, but try to offer respectful criticism for the sake of the community that the campaign could possibly be improved, and people can still have fun.

Respect each other, have fun, enjoy it, don't hate each other for having opinions.

I'm guessing that the reason they place so many cogs in the area is because of the (small?) group of people who are actually placing the tags in places. It costs money to fly to various places around the globe, and it's obvious the "team" who places the tags are in this area (Bay Area). If anything, they probably mail the tags to people they know in other states and have them hide it for them, but just not as often. Who knows what their real reasons are for placing so many here, but I'm pretty sure this is the most accurate.

I know those of you from other places of the world are growing tired and frustrated of not getting any in your area, but you have to understand the costs of actually going around the globe and placing them.

That said, annoyance is only as big as one's passion to be involved as much as other people are. It's the "I want one too!" mentality that gets people bitter when other people keep getting more. Not much to do about that... only the organizers can remedy that if they see fit, or the community mods can kick and ban to their hearts content. Hopefully it never degrades to that level.

Every campaign will have rough spots. Don't jump down people's throats for complaining, but try to see the point that's being made; and, don't complain just for the sake of complaining, but try to offer respectful criticism for the sake of the community that the campaign could possibly be improved, and people can still have fun.

Respect each other, have fun, enjoy it, don't hate each other for having opinions.

animus, I'm sure cost itself isn't the issue - it's a marketing campaign - $ is poured into it. It's a matter of whether they think the amount necessary is worth it, plus other feasibility factors, legalities, market penetration, etc, etc. Cost alone certainly isn't a barrier ;)Honestly, I don't mind at all considering I'm from the Bay Area ;)

I'm guessing that the reason they place so many cogs in the area is because of the (small?) group of people who are actually placing the tags in places. It costs money to fly to various places around the globe, and it's obvious the "team" who places the tags are in this area (Bay Area). If anything, they probably mail the tags to people they know in other states and have them hide it for them, but just not as often. Who knows what their real reasons are for placing so many here, but I'm pretty sure this is the most accurate.

Between Microsoft locations, Epic locations and the marketing company locations, i would think they have decent geographic coverage.

weeeelllll i went to alcatraz... what did i find? dirt... i found the spot but no cog tag. i think its ridiculous cuz the spot where the cog tag is supposed to be was by an entrance(kind of a MAIN entrance from the side -.-)...................... ANYONE could have gotten it(surely not a Gears fan...), and if it was there u could have clearly seen it from a distance.... dont think it was hidden in a creepy cell and was real hidden cuz it wasnt. I checked it when i got there... then after i saw it wasnt there i just walked all over and enjoyed my time(never been to alcatraz so it was still cool). then i was passing by the spot again and i was standing by it and i met Mecosos(lol no mames ahora ya se porque no me querias dicir tu nombre en los forums en el momento...). i think this little girl(like 14 or 15yrs old) and her (im guessing) little brother found it... because i saw her by the spot and was looking at me LOOKING at that heater thing, and around her neck was a shiny dog tag(the one that comes on the cog tag) but her chain was longer... and the dog tag looked new so i dont know if it was her who found it... i didnt want to ask her cuz she was with like her family. anyway there was ALOT of people there from ALL! ages and from that spot anyone could have gotten it... i say to who ever is hidding them to hide them like REAL GOOD or in better spots where only people that know its going to be there can get it and not where some little kid or a 50 year old guy that if asked what is Gears of War wouldnt know the answer...

On the other hand though, i could have been janitorial or even tour people who would have noticed something liek that out of place overnight. They had to have planed the COG at least yesterday sometime which would have left it there overnight most likely and found by the nightly cleaning staff polishing the floors and what not.

They should have put it outside.

So that's three cogs that have got MIA, Alkatraz, City Walk and Union Square... They need hiding spots that are alittle more thought out. Unless really they don't care if we, the dedicated hard core find them at all, they just want them to be found by random people to increase awareness? I dunno. They had to have planed the COG at least yesterday sometime which would have left it there overnight most likely and found by the nightly cleaning staff polishing the floors and what not.

They should have put it outside.

So that's three cogs that have got MIA, Alkatraz, City Walk and Union Square... They need hiding spots that are alittle more thought out. Unless really they don't care if we, the dedicated hard core find them at all, they just want them to be found by random people to increase awareness? I dunno. Damn, send me a stack and i'll hide them all over San Francisco where they won't be found by randoms.

EXACTLY! i was thinking the same thing. it should have been hidden outside! or somewhere else besides the CellHouse... like i said in my previous post, it should be hidden where only US (the dedicated hard core) would be able to find it because we were told where it is by... and not like on a door handle that everyone touches(basicaly the same thing because people went by the cog tag to look on the other side of Block A(it was close on the wall side). It should have been hidden in the Recreational Yard(the exercise yard) all the way in the back where there is some bad grass and dirt and not alot of people went all the way down into the yard... especially all the way to the back....


Yes, under it, behind it, between it, the other side...as well as every other radiator in cell blocks A-D.

Which was a little weird, considering I was the only "Tourist" taking interest in the radiators while everyone was fascinated with the cells behind me.
