Hey everyone, I just picked up this game for the PC (after my 360 died and I didn't get another one). I installed Gears, installed the GFW patch and the GearsTU update; however, when I click the icon whether it be through the CD, in the Games folder of vista or the Install file, the little splash screen of GoW pops up, but it will sit there endlessly and stresses my CPU at 100%. I have an e8400, GTX 280, x-Fi Titanium and run Crysis/Warhead/CoH/CoD all perfectly fine... Anyone have any thoughts?
btw - I run Vista Ultimate x64
UPDATE: When I run the game with the -nosound addition, it runs!! Anyone have advice? Or am I one of the many screwed by getting Creative?

How is the Gears for Windows under general support the wrong thread for this? I have tried in the Creative threads also, but am wondering if anyone out there has had the same issue as me with the x-fi titanium Fatality Card...

Considering the symptoms, and that they are alleviated by running without sound, it seems fairly certain that the sound card drivers are the issue. Make sure you are on the latest version of Creative, but even then it will just depend on the drivers themselves.

I used to crash alot until I added some stuff to my warengineusersettings.ini..
[ALAudio.ALAudioDevice]
MaxChannels=
DeviceName=
I added these to mine and I haven't crashed since.
Try adding the proper DeviceName of your card. You can find it by going to Sound and Audio Devices in Control Panel on XP (probably similar on Vista). It will probably be something like "SB X-FI Audio [XXXX]" and then just put that after DeviceName=. I think the X-Fi has 128 Channels.. audigy has 64. You'll have to figure that part out.
you could also Google "Gears of War" and "ALAudio.ALAudioDevice" and do some reading.
The OpenAL implimentation on Gears and UT3 does not seem to like Creative Cards.
