EPIC - please read this!

I don't consider myself more important than anyone else, I'm writing this because of the conversations I have with GOW players.

Has everybody knows, lot's of things in GOW 1 were an accident, but the truth is people started to like the game because many of that accidents! Multiplayer lacks a party system and people still play it every day! It kind of remembers me of the penicillin accident in medicin history!

What I'm trying to say is that us the gamers are conserned with what you are doing to the GOW we know, maybe it isn't the GOW that was supposed to exist, but it's the GOW we LOVE!

Everybody agrees that:

-Sniper should not down in active
-Host should not have such a power
-Lancer should shoot straight and have some added power (or just shoot straight)
-Pistol shouldn't down with just two beat downs, it should have a beat down more like the hammer
-Etc...

But everybodys loves the stun effect of GOW (in some correct weapons)! And most important, everyboy LOVES the shotgun! People play the game everyday so they can use the famous GOW shoty!

Or are you trying to take away all the things we love in GOW? Even if some were a mistake? If people love it what's your problem? GOW is in the 4 first places of LIVE every week! If people didn't like it, didn't like the shoty do you think that would be possible?

Why don't you just fix what is wrong and leave the good stuff?

Do you expect to be funny lancering from a distance during 20 minutes?

Shoty is what made GOW such a great and played by everyone game, it just needed some fixes and you've got yourself one of the best games ever made.

Please don't ruin everything, at least put a BETA out there before the game comes out.

I really love your GOW, with all it's bugs and all it's great things, are we all going to say the same about GOW 2? Or is it going to be a boring 20 minute fight and anyone that dares to have guts dies from 1000000 mts away? Is that what you want?

Why is shoty slower? Why are you going to make such huge maps? Why are you going to make it 5 Vs 5? Are you trying to destroy GOW identity? Are you trying to be a normal FPS? If so please take into account that other FPS are way better in doing that than GOW. Please I ask you again, please make a BETA and please don't destroy what we love about GOW.

You really are EPIC if you find the ballance you need to find right now.

Back to the theme.

Has many of you say GOW is GOW, and that's what we want to know, GOW is going to be GOW?

We know that GOW is a mistake, but we love most of the things (why else would we play it? we have HALO3, COD4, GTA4, UT3), and in the videos it seems all is different, why?

Aren't we going to feel nothing because the more used weapon now it's the less used one, and the less used one now it's the more used one?

If people love canals, escalation, gridlock, are we going to like bigger maps?

4 Vs 4 It's a intimal close combat (not like COD in which you shoot a pixel), are we going to like 5 vs 5? Isn't that too crowded?

Now people do quick matches and have lot's of fun (game it's always in first 4 of most played games of LIVE), if combat it's going to be lancer all the way during 20 minutes, are we going to like it?

Why are you removing stun effect from some weapons? Bigger weapons should have stun effect! At least you could activate it from behind! (If someone gets you from behind!)

Is it true that you are trying to bring the game to a larger audience and therefore make it more "user friendly"? Aren't you afraid that in the long run you might loose all the GOW felling? And consequently all the costumers?

If GOW it's such a mistake why did it sell 5.000.000 copies? Why do you think people continue to comeback? Why do you think new ones join?

When we watch the videos we see great graphics, we see a great game, we see great multiplayer, we see great enemies, characteres, everything, but do we see GOW? Do we see the GOW we know and love?

I and the people in this forum would like you to answer our questions, we would like you to reveall more multiplayer videos, can you please help us?

All we want is to buy the game and buy content for it, we just love GOW. We don't want you to ruin it because the game, the ideas are sooooo damn good. We want GOW to be fixed, not to be ruined.

ok first off the shotty isnt dead in GOW2 they even said its more blanced and trustworthy when in close but its gonna take skill and wits to get in close which is what the game needs you shouldnt be able to run through a lancer or pistol or whatever weapon and shotgun somebody that part of GOW1 is absolutely stupid and makes no sense. there are still gonna be smaller maps as well for the shotty lovers i hear they have released info on one called dusk and its a raven down style map so my suggestion would be to wait for the game and adapt you'll still be able to use the famous GOW shotty but this time around it will take more than holding the A button and running through bullets to either 2 piece somebody or wall bounce or even just run through them.

Secondly, not everybody agrees that the lancer should shoot straight and have more power... Its overpowered (and overused! by some noobs online) way too much... I hate it when someone just uses an active with the lancer to down you... Its too powerful as it is. I would agree with other points that you made though - (The sniper's active downs you in one shot is annoying [THANKS FOR TAKING IT OUT EPIC] - Same with the host advantage [THANKS FOR DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THAT ASWELL] - Also the sniper hitting and pistol hitting twice is annoying [THANKS FOR REMOVING STUN]). I also would like to point out that the match-making idea isn't the best you came up with Epic... Its match-making that stopped me playing halo 3, I hated the idea, I would prefer the old search menu when you selcted "Xbox Live Player Match" or "Xbox Live Ranked Match"... I don't think that you understand. GOW 2 can't be the game we all want because we all want different things. I would like GOW 2 to be lancer all the way, but you don't. They can't please all of us, so they likely will do what they believe presents the game closest to what they envision. If it's lancer oriented, I'll be happy, and if it's not, then someone else will be happy.

Escalation (which I love) is pretty strategic, isn't it ? I mean if you're upstairs and the other team attacks on both sides, you'll lancer them from a distance, won't you ?

Sure, many people will hate it if GoW2 turns into a lancer fest, but GoW1 wouldn't have turned into a shotgun fest if it wasn't so laggy.

I know some guys who will host and kick you if you lancer (or melee) them repeatedly. I'll be glad if they don't play GoW2.

So you're saying that adding 2 more players and bigger maps destroys Gears of Wars identity? This is a sequel. You need to change stuff and 10 players in the battlefield is a nice change.

I like all the changes they are doing, keeps everyone on their toes. Change is a good factor in my opinion, but not too drastic. Balance is key, get some big changes in but balance them out with smaller ones, and that’s what Epic did. I can defiantly see where you are coming from on this thread.

They are not changing the shotgun much man,they are slowing it down(from what I've heard) and ensuring that it's not a run and gun type of game, by making the shotgunners work for their kill...not just rush in and blast away blindly.

And if it's true that EPIC is going to slow down the rate of fire on the shotty, who says thats bad?Maybe they slowed it down cause it may kill in one shot.

Maybe, for all the hard work that shotgunners do to get to an enemy is rewarded by a more powerful gun..maybe.I'm just speculating

I love the shotty because of its gibbing effect,not because I completely own with it... BUt your right, Gears is still on the top 10 XBL Most played list, its been out for like 2 years and is still up there, EPIC must have done something right then,accident or not...

So why fix whats not broken, all they had to do was make it more consistent, and leave it the way it is.. Stopping power was added, that should counter the rolling shotty whores, but no, you guys took it a step further and made it weaker and slowed the rate of fire... Melee stun def should have been left in, maybe make it take less time to get back to normal so you dont get double melee'd down... IMO EPIC listened to all the Noobs who ***** and complain about everything, just cus they are bad with the shotgun or Sniper.. Thats there fault, they just arent naturally good at games like us... I have a feeling MLG is not going to pick it up just because Gears 2 is looking to be really noob friendly,or they might pick it up cus its more tactical, who knows...

Gears 1 is loved by most ppl, Me being one of those ppl, I was here from the start,before Gears 1 came out,that just shows you my devotion towards EPIC and Gears of War... Like Black RL said, just fix:

-Make the shotty more consistent
-No active down with Sniper
-And add in everything New including Stopping power for the kiddies who cant stop the guys who roll in with a shotgun!

I like the shotgun like everyone else, and I love Gears and EPIC too much to see Gears 2 fail, I honestly think if I dont like Gears 2 I will quit XBOX LIVE MP and cry, cus this is the game im waiting for next to COD:World at War... And like you said we aren't against new things or changes, just against changing what doesn't needs to be changed.

And people aren't going to flame, you were 100% correct.

And yes, shotgun is a challenging and skill weapon, that's why we love it. If I want to fire and fire and fire and fire all the game with a machine gun from a distance, I can play COD4 in which I make a crazy number of kills.

oh I am waiting for Far Cry 2 and Fable 2... But COD games are my kind of games, I am semi-pro skill level in COD4 and I was into clans on COD2 so im hoping COD5 will be good... Fable 2 and Fallout 3 are both on my pre-order list and Far Cry 2 I am gonna buy but im not sure if it will be good... Therefore im not really anxious for that game... I know treyarch is bad but they might make COD5 good,you never know...

I really love your GOW, with all it's bugs and all it's great things, are we all going to say the same about GOW 2? Or is it going to be a boring 20 minute fight and anyone that dares to have guts dies from 1000000 mts away? Is that what you want?

Why is shoty slower? Why are you going to make such huge maps? Why are you going to make it 5 Vs 5? Are you trying to destroy GOW identity? Are you trying to be a normal FPS? I just want a balanced game. GOW is a close to medium game, GOW2 is showing to be a medium to long range game. Why? People just want the bugs fixed, people like close to medium "fights". So what's wrong? Do they want to make it more user friendly? Is that what we GOW fans want?

If they fail to make one, they are going to pay in the long run. They will loose their position in LIVE and GOW3 won't sell good.

Just make a balanced game that serves everyone.

As for the debate about football. I think the name of the game should be left in the hands of those who invented the game ie: the English. It is not soccer it is FOOTBALL. 'Futbol' is just the Spanish way of saying football.

I agree with some of the stuff you said, but must say that I am glad they changed the game. It was what I have been hoping for since they announced it. I feel that it will still have the same flavor, but it will take some getting used to. The game and the players are only going to benefit from the changes that EPIC has made. Most of the changes were due to the fact of the communities complaints about the game.

Also, dont knock the game just yet. it is still 2 months away, and we can all speculate all we want on how its going to play, but until we get it in our sweaty hands, none of us will know. Maybe it will play better and be a better experience all the way around, or it could be that it could turn out to be even worse then the first (tho I seriously doubt it).

From the posts that I have read on these forums, everyone is worried that they will not be able to run and gun anymore, and more then likely it is true. Sure, it might ruin the game for you, but remember that it is not the way it was meant to be played. It is a "tactical shooter" and thus should be played as one. So give the changes some time, and I believe that we will see that it will not ruin the game we all of come to enjoy, it will make us only enjoy it more!!!

making the lancer and hammerburst better and stronger makes matches last longer.

I have not been in a match where I can't finish it in less than 3 minutes.. Sure this makes for quick gameplay and I'm not saying I want the match to last 10 minutes.. But a 5 minute match isn't too bad. Making the Lancer a primary weapon makes the game more tactical like they wanted, you have to take cover, move up, shoot, take cover. You take up a position and fire on the enemy making them go into cover so your team can maybe rush with a shotgun.

The game turns into everyone pull out your shotgun and go at it, with the sniper and or torque bow shooting at the people fighting, sniper actives 1 guy and the match is done.

I recently started to use the lancer a s*** load more now that I hear it's going to be a primary in GoW2. And know what? It works great. You can lancer a shotgunner running at you, down him, run up and finish him, then guess what I hear: "F***ing lancer w****, get some skill and use the shot gun 'like everyone else'" well guess what, I'm not like everyone else, and I don't want to be. The Lancer is a trademark weapon and is UNDERUSED (heard someone say overused? Compared to what? Hammerburst? lol)

I started useing the lancer, get about 10 downs a game with maybe 2 or 3 kills less then my downs, that means a lot more points with a lot more strategy. The guy who rushes the power weapon now is useless because I can lancer him down, he should have stayed back, Lancered me, made me run away or down me so he can get it, making more strategic.

Shotgun battles ARE fun, but not when it's the whole game.

EPIC made a smart choice by powering it up, a person now who wants to use the shotgun, has to deserve the right to use it, sneak up around his enemy, take cover while getting in close. You think people would actually rush someone with a shotgun when the other guy infront of them has a machine gun? f*** no lol, thats dumb, getting around them or in close is the trick, and what is difficult. Now I will bow down or congratulate the person who can get through my lancer or get around me and shotgun my a**, that takes skill.

In GoW1 more people complain about the lancer then when they get 1shot by a shotgun now, it takes more skill to keep your sights on a guy trying to dodge your fire, taking burst shots, and keeping with them when they try and rush you, then it is to run up, shoot once, roll and keep going, wtf is the point of that and how fun is that?.. Well apparently a lot but I think it makes the game short, and boring..

Lancer will be more used and respected as a weapon, a lot will switchout the shotgun over the lancer, some still switching lancer over shotgun (which I think I'll do incase I get into a close quarter fight :eek:)

(Just finished reading some other replies) I agree, gears is gears, can't change it, live with it. I try not to complain much, swear a lot when I play but hey, a little anger never hurt many people.. :)

But I love gears, love playing it, and if I'm mad at how someone else is playing, I turn my mic down, mute myself, and keep quiet, usually if I can't hear someone getting mad or trash talking I do much better.

The bottom line is we just don't know how it's going to play. You can be rest assured cover and flanking will play a more prominent role, as was the original design intent for Gears 1.

Yer, cover is going to be need alot more but I feel like Epic focused on the lancer way too much... Its as if they just didn't like all the other weapons and thought to down-grade some (i.e - shotgun fires slower / Faster firing weapons will have better stopping power)... I know that the shotgun didn't fire too fast at all because those smart enough with the Lancer know to keep a good distance and aim at the legs.. so they could have easily kept the lancer the same and it would have been fine... It's just stopping power that gets me, I just don't like the idea...

Edit- I can understand Epic wanting to make the game more tactical and they've done a brilliant job on making it more tactical, I quite like a tactical game so I'm probably going to like this (Plus they kept the sniper the same just no power up with an active [GREAT JOB EPIC] so this means that I can still do sniper battles ect..) But what I'm also trying to say is the shotgun could be counted as one of the attractions to the game (That and Dom :) - Dom = Legend) and all they did was just make it slower (I'm not saying it's dead in GoW 2 because it still will get used alot) they could have made it go slightly further or make it slightly more powerful...

Second Edit- The Lancer is not underused.. In nearly every game I go in, theres about 4 people who just use the lancer and no other weapon... Although I do agree the shotgun will now take lot of skill to get tp a person using the Lancer, it was skill in the first game when a shotgunner had to get to 2 people who are both lancering you (That was overpowered) and now thy powered it up it would only have to be one person and it would be skill (maybe knocking a little teamwork out of the game as you wont the extra firepower to try and stop a shotgunner. But at the same time, you may need teamwork as the shotgunners to get to the guy using the lancer.)

Has many of you say GOW is GOW, and that's what we want to know, GOW is going to be GOW?

We know that GOW is a mistake, but we love most of the things (why else would we play it? we have HALO3, COD4, GTA4, UT3), and in the videos it seems all is different, why?

Aren't we going to feel nothing because the more used weapon now it's the less used one, and the less used one now it's the more used one?

If people love canals, escalation, gridlock, are we going to like bigger maps?

4 Vs 4 It's a intimal close combat (not like COD in which you shoot a pixel), are we going to like 5 vs 5? Isn't that too crowded?

Now people do quick matches and have lot's of fun (game it's always in first 4 of most played games of LIVE), if combat it's going to be lancer all the way during 20 minutes, are we going to like it?

Why are you removing stun effect from some weapons? Bigger weapons should have stun effect! At least you could activate it from behind! (If someone gets you from behind!)

If GOW it's such a mistake why did it sell 5.000.000 copies? Why do you think people continue to comeback? Why do you think new ones join?

When we watch the videos we see great graphics, we see a great game, we see great multiplayer, we see great enemies, characteres, everything, but do we see GOW? Do we see the GOW we know and love?

I and the people in this forum would like you to answer our questions, we would like you to reveall more multiplayer videos, can you please help us?

All we want is to buy the game and buy content for it, we just love GOW. We don't want you to ruin it because the game, the ideas are sooooo damn good. We want GOW to be fixed, not to be ruined.

Yo, I will say this concerning the quote/post above...

The shotgun looks awesome, I actually think it looks easier to handle and it seems more powerful.Tai shot a locust from like 10 feet away and messed him up.

Now on to other things.I feel like everyone is worried about gears2, I don't see why.Everything is better, I just saw the shotty and liked it, the lancer and hammerburst are sick looking (performance wise) and every new gun on the game looks sick, so I don't see the problem.

To the person who made this Thread:I don't think EPIC would or could tell us anything, thats what videos are for, they aren't gonna reply back and be like "Yeah, we f*cked the game up". What do you want them to say? If they replied and said "We made the game the same", are you gonna be happy?
I know I won't, I understand things are changing, but if someone complains that the shotgun is gonna be harder to use, that seems to me that they aren't confident in their shotgunning skills going into a newer shotgun.
Same with snipers and lancer users.

All I'm saying is that we should relax about Gears 2, if you think it'll be bad, then it will be bad.If you think it will rock, then it will rock.

I'm not trying to say anyone in this thread is wrong and I'm right, I'm just saying look at things at a different perspective...and enjoy GOW2 :D

The lancer is not used often in GOW1 because of usual bullet lag. However, I have played games where there was little-to-no lag... and the lancer downed people in under a second.... That's overpowered.

Noting that GOW2 is being optimized for online play, I would expect the lag to be minimal and the lancer to be extremely over-powered... and I still like the shotgun a lot. :(

Now that I have seen that video I'm relaxed! Of course changes should be made! It's a sequel! As long as the shotgun remains a good weapon they can do whatever they like! I don't care! :D
