Startup Fails

I get the following error:

When I launch the game from the Games section on Vista it produces a error saying that "Startup.exe has encountered an error and needs to be closed"

It proceeds to launch the game which closes right after the startup videos.

I tried re-installing. Worked once. But kept freezing. Close the game. Restart game... Startup.exe gets error.
Reboot PC... Same issue.

I am running the latest update (which was a nightmare to find as vista doesnt do it automatically) and still error occurs.

My PC specs:

Operating System: Windows Vista 32-Bit Home Basic Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz 2.99GHz
RAM: 2.50GB
Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce 7600GT

And i changed the registry to match the error they say where the B needs to be capitalized in Binaries.

Any ideas how to fix this?

You say you're running the latest update but don't say which update it was.

Make sure you're running the latest version of Games for Windows - LIVE AND the latest Gears of War update. There was an update last December to Games for Windows - LIVE that addressed some compatibility problems that could lead to errors similar to what you're describing.

I'd suggest manually installing both of these updates and then trying again (if you haven't already got them).

Hi

I have installed both updates and tried to launch the game. When i click on 'play' the screen changes to the GOW page and then goes black, then the message 'Gears Of War has stopped working' comes up and then another box later on to 'close program'. I had the game playing fine on my pc before i had to replace my motherboard that was faulty. I got the same board however the old board was version 1.1 and new board is 2.1 version. All latest drivers and a fresh reinstall of windows has been applied.

PC works fine otherwise, just a problem with GOW. i even tried a second copy of the game and still same problem.

Any other ideas please?

I'm guessing it's some piece of software that's different since your reinstall.

Make sure you have all your software updated to the latest versions (anti-virus, firewall, etc.) and that you have all the Windows Update updates applied.

Might be worth checking your drivers (video, sound, network) as well to make sure they're the versions that worked previously. I seem to recall that there were other posts stating that certain video drivers would cause Gears of War problems though I never saw it and can't really speak to that.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Hopefully one of those ideas will get you working again.

I tried to play the game today and when i clicked on the GOW icon in my Games folder, a mesage came up saying....

C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Gears of Wars/Binaries/wargame-g4wlive.exe:
You cannot run the game with modified executable code. Please reinstall the game. :confused:

So before i uninstall and re install, what do you reckon please?

Well, unless you've actually modified some files in the Gears installation I'd say you have something mucking around on your system (spyware, etc.)

I'm not familiar with that particular error but I'd guess it means what it says, that something is making your Gears binary look like it's been modified. If you didn't do anything that would cause that, something running on your system must have. Get a good spyware and/or anti-virus scanner and see if anything turns up.

Maybe someone else will have some better ideas.

I have unistalled the game and also unistalled the ATI Graphics drivers of version 8.7

I reiinstalled ATI CATALYST version 7.10 which i had on the old motherbard before it became faulty.

i reinstalled the game and now get the following message-

Runtime error!

Program : C:/Program File...

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it n an unusual way.
Please contact the application support team for more information.
