sry for the bad attitude but i was feeling alone

here is wat happend is that i had my gears on a 500GB maxtor HDD but it fell down and coz of that i have a new HDD which is brand new

now after the accident the computer thinks the game is installed but in fact it is not

not my qs is wat shld i do to either re-install the game or to do something to just play the game

also even when nothing is on my computer about gears(well i dont know anything technical about so if u need to delete some files tell me)when i insert the disk it tells me to either play the game or uninstall

now when i press play it says cannot find the startup on HDD and if i try to uninstall the game it says this

"error no.0x80040702 description failed to load DLL fireinstall helper setup will now terminate"

any more info u need tell me and plz try to help fast

Go read the "Getting Gears PC to work..." thread, it details the workaround for the fireinstall helper setup problem from memory. Alternatively you could simply search the reg for Gears details (look for "Epic Games" or "Unreal" or "Gears") and get rid of them.

Here it is... It should be moved here and should not be under General Chat any longer. Hopefully someone will move it here and sticky it.

I am receiving the following error message when I try to run Gears of War for the PC.
"You cannot run the game with modified executable code. Please reinstall the game."
Microsoft directed me to this forum and told me to post here. Please let me know if a solution exists or what is needed to reach a solution.

If you guys tried reading one of the many, many posts on the front page of this forum, you would see that the "cant run with modified executable" error is because the certificate expired, and EVERYONE has this issue. Epic didn't mean for it to happen, and is working on a fix (it has been submitted to MS for approval, so when that happens, it will be avail). So two options.

1. Set the clock on your Windows back to a time before Jan 09 *
2. Wait for the patch

*Note, if you do this, it can interfere with other programs so make sure you just do it while playing, not all the time. Further, you cannot sign into Live with it like that, so you will have to change the date to a time before Jan 09, then after the game starts and is in the menu, alt-tab back to the desktop, change the date to the correct date, and then go back into the game and sign into Live, then you should be able to play online from what I have read. Note, I haven't tried this personally, as I have been just waiting for a patch to resolve this issue.

No prob :) I do think Epic should have had a topic stickied at the top of the forum explaining this, so that people wouldn't be coming in and asking constantly and not understanding why they are having this error... Its all over the web too, various gaming sites, etc. But on the other hand, that would be informing people that everyone who bought GOW for PC cannot currently play it, without doing the above or waiting for a patch, which does look kinda bad.

You can use this utility from Microsoft that will clean out the program.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Install it, run it, locate Gears of War in the list and then remove it. Then try reinstalling it.
