View Full Version : Drawing the line, where does custom content end and UT3 Begin?

I was curious if for Game Modification submissions (As in full mods submitting during the May Phase), absolutely everything has to be custom?

What I mean where is the line drawn?

Can we use UT3's muzzle flashes? Sound Effects?
What about the basic terrain textures?

I understand that obviously things like static meshes, maps, and characters need to be custom, but what are the specific requirements for "custom content?"

Uhm... I don't think so. Obviously the more you do well, the better it reflects on you.

I doubt there is any such restriction. The idea behind modding is to build off of or change an existing body of work, not build your own entirely from scratch.

As for the actual line, I would draw it at things that needed to be imported into UED or which need to be compiled. I would not count things made in the material editor, or fancy prefabs, or even dramatically altered meshes or physics assets, even though they are custom made by the designer.
