I think stopping power could be the worst part of this game. And I am speaking for the competitive side of this game, from most MLG players points of views. How are you suppose to Flank , move , setup , and make nice clutches when you are getting slowed down by lancer? I dont understand what could make Epic add this to the game...In Gow 1 when people were lancering and some1 would rush them with a shotgun..that wasnt bad. It taught the other players to put away the lancer for once, and get some skil with the shotgun ( lancering takes not much skill ). I dont know what you guys think, but do you agree that this is the stupidest thing ever?

Lancering takes no skill? WRONG! It takes mucho skill to kill someone with Lancer in GOW 1. Unlike the shot gun where EVERY one uses it. Now in gow 2 You shotgun toting nubz have A LOT to worry about. Not just the Lancer, when you engage in close quarters with the wrong person who happens to be carrying a flamethrower.

hmmm. meh idk. first of all the game is 5 or 6 month from completion so if it looks like stopping power is going to ruin the game (which it doesn't, according to all of the journalists who played for 8 hours) im sure they'll tweak it a little.

Plus all it does is prevent people from running gung-ho into you and shotgun-supermanning you which was fun, i admit, but got old after a while because it took from all other aspects of the MP besides sniping. Ugh. run on sentence.

What? Non-MLG people don't know how to flank, move, set up, and make clutches? I hate the "from an MLG perspective" crap that keeps getting posted on here. You are still going to be able to flank, move, etc, but now you are just going to have to use cover more. Gears of War 2 will be like playing Gears of War on insane mode; use cover or die.

I got pretty f***ed up by kids with shotties so they do take skill (in my opinion) but the stopping power is awesome, so that the shot guns dont dominate the MP in the second one as well.

You're just another typical MLG whiner that's just complaining that they won't be able to just run around and destroy everything with their shotgun. And yes it was bad when someone would take a hail of lancering fire and still be able to run up and blow someone up with the shotgun. Stopping power is the best feature they're putting in gears 2 so the game will actually be played the way it's supposed to be played and not a big shotty fest. Here's the inherit problem with Gears 1. It didn't teach them to put the lancer away "for once," it taught them to throw it away forever and to just rush with the shotgun all the time.

I'm also curious about that flanking you're talking about, since when I play people just run straight into your face all the time and it pretty much comes down to luck.

The fact that everyone uses the shotgun is proof that using the lancer must technically take more "skill" (that's such a ****ing subjective word anyways).

Just let it go. Epic made the game so it suits how they wanted it, how it was suppose to be in the first place. They wanted a tactical shooter and it turned out more like a run and gun.

The one thing they shouldn't have done is make the grenades even more annoying than they are now....so you can stick them around corners on walls....I can already see kids abusing it by waiting for grenades to respawn everytime just so they can stick more all over the map. Also not to mention making it so you can stick someone from long distances. Wasnt that the problem in Gears 1 before the patch?? People were complaining the distance of sticking someone was too far so they made it closer, now you can be 20 feet away and stick someone.

Granted, it sounds good, taking the idea of the plasma grenade from Halo but it's going to get really annoying.

Honestly the long distance stick seen in the footage was probably just a bug that will most definitely be stitched up. And hopefully planted grenades dissapear or something when the owner dies.

The stick of the smoke tag in the gameplay footage, the grenade is actually thrown you can see it fly through the air and it sticks to the locust. What is confusing is Dom throws it overhand like tagging in GoW1. That may be a new feature but I don't think that was a bug/lag.

There is this little thing called the left trigger. It brings up a targeting reticle so you can aim. It's really helpful at long distances, ya know.

I like stopping power its really not that bad guys... play counter-strike there is stopping power in that game... yes it slows you down but it doesnt render you useless or completely unable to move it just makes you think twice about running blindly into 3-4 guys... gears of war 2 will be a game made for the players who have quick reflexes but also have the smarts to go with it ... this is where the weak are separated from the strong.... the weak players are the guys who run out guns blazing now you will be punished for it and the strong no the time for doing something and t he time for playing defense... gears of war 2 will bring an entirely new and higher skill level for the game remember its not the weapon its the guy who uses it the right way at the right time that will win... thats what epic is trying to create a game with consequences and balance where you think out all your moves... where you actually become completely part of the universe not just hold the a button and keep right triggering and then scream your lungs out when you loose... we will play gears the right tactical and hard way that it was suppose to be played.

shotgun was more used, not lancer. So stopping power encourages people to stop whoring the shotgun

I think Stopping Power is a good idea. They did it in S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl, for instance. If you are sprinting and get shot, you stop sprinting immediately and go back to a slow jog. A good idea for Gears 2 would be if you put enough shots into someone who is Roadie Running away from you, he stops Roadie Running and has to wait about 2 or 3 seconds before he can continue. Yes he can roll and shoot, just not Roadie Run for a little bit. I dunno how many times rounds have been forced to a draw because someone wouldn't stop Roadie Running and always took the shortcuts so there was no real "Cut-off" area.

Kinda hard to practice the cover system in Gears one because of all the Shotty-Chargers. Other than that, you do make a very well-stated point.

Also, people might want to try getting kills without wall-bouncing, as that won't be in Gears 2.

How does using the shotgun more than the lancer or visa versa effect your ability to use power weapons? Now you are making absolutely no sense. Maybe it's much different on the PC than the console (I believe you said you play gears on pc). And gears 2 is only for the console so you'll probably still get raped if it's still a shotty fest anyway because you won't have your precious mouse and keyboard.

I'm just so shocked.
I can guarantee you every single weapon will have Pros and Cons. This of course creates balance which is the main goal in online play. Just because you can't use the shotgun like it's the only weapon doesn't mean the end of the world. Try opening your mind to new tactics, weaponry, and playstyles. Charging like a bull hopped up on a Monster isn't going to do anything for you in gears 2(Thank God). This will finally convince people shotty is CLOSE RANGE ONLY. How does using the shotgun more than the lancer or visa versa effect your ability to use power weapons? Now you are making absolutely no sense. Maybe it's much different on the PC than the console (I believe you said you play gears on pc). And gears 2 is only for the console so you'll probably still get raped if it's still a shotty fest anyway because you won't have your precious mouse and keyboard.

like I said thats just my online PC expiernce yeah and thats what they said about halo 1 and 2 only for xbox for now give it till about maybe if were lucky a year after gears of war 2 releases then we might be playing gow2 pc :D. same with halo 3 eventually it will come to the pc. lol I dont push little m&m colored buttons I am pc only. lol ps3 has mouse and keyboard support a shame that 360 doesnt have it...

I can guarantee you every single weapon will have Pros and Cons. This of course creates balance which is the main goal in online play. Just because you can't use the shotgun like it's the only weapon doesn't mean the end of the world. Try opening your mind to new tactics, weaponry, and playstyles. Charging like a bull hopped up on a Monster isn't going to do anything for you in gears 2(Thank God). This will finally convince people shotty is CLOSE RANGE ONLY. True, gears of war 1 isn't very tactical. Epic intended it to be tactical but it turned into a shotty fest. This time around with gears of war 2 they are trying to make it more tactical with the addition of things such as stopping power to prevent gears 2 from turning into another shotty fest.

I like what Epic is trying to do, with the stopping power and to make the lancer more effective in the MP. In Gears of War 2 you are going to have to be smarter and I'm looking forward to the challenge.

But it was broken. It's a glitchers paradise. Combine that with Microsoft looking the other way when you report someone for glitching and they do it endlessly. It's a truly amazing game, 2 will be even better. Epic wants the game played how they envisioned it... that is why they added stopping power and made the grenades how they are now going to be. If I developed a game, I'd want it to be played a certain way. Either people will love it or hate it, I'd be fine with that. But I'd want it played with how I envision it.

the lancer is a noob weapon people run around spraying and praying with this thing takes some skill but not a lot. hell epic even said that they didnt like everyone having shoty battles they said and I quote '' its not the game we designed it for'' what the **** should they care as long as long as people buy it they should be happy. even in the new vids of gears 2 when the guy was trying to shoty that raam you all saw what a big advantage the lancer has in gears 2 hell I bet people wont even use the shoty now and the flamethrower that looks like the next noob weapon really another spray and pray weapon now the flamethrower takes no skill what so ever can you think about all the noobs running to the spawn of the flamethrower and whoring that through out the whole match... I believe that the shoty will become obsolete now thanks to epic lets face it its not that hard to dodge a charging shoty guy all you have to do is ROLL to the side problem solved.. I think that this stoping power will change gears multiplayer for ever. the era of the shoty is sadly over my friends... thanks again epic for taking the noobs side.

Glitchers paradise? umm, what are you talking about besides weapon sliding? and what is this "how i envisioned it" crap? you know how many people played gears of war 1 online for an entire year straight? people liked the way the game was played besides some of the unpolished issues.

this whole "lets lancer all day long" mentality is ridiculous and i hope to god gears of war 2 doesn't resort to talentless lancer battles the entire time.

in this game the lancer is the weapon that doesn't take precision and accuracy, it's the shotgun. so, i hope and pray the lancer remains a support weapon with specific counter-attack functions.

no, but getting two inches away from someones chest takes ability. the shotgun is the dueling weapon of this game, it takes skill to wield it in such situations.
