I just found the assault "trials" server out there, and I was wondering where I can obtain the special actors etc in use in these trial maps.

go to the server, when you see something you like pull it out of the map (you'll have to extract your cache first). try to make sure you don't yank things that people have specified to only be used for their stuff, though i'm not really sure anyone is /allowed/ to say that, still i try to respect people's work.

Yeah I dont do yanking cause you'll probably piss someone off.

its all community stuff more or less. if you wanna be pure thats fine but people make mods and stuff so it will get used. and its not like many people are making money off the mods they make, they are just having a good time. and really, i'm pretty sure that epic owns anything anyone makes unless they own their own license to the engine. but, whatever pops your tart, fool.

I know I already said this, but I just don't wanna piss anyone off. After seeing all the trials out there so far, it seems it's all been done anyhow.

yeah.. pretty much. i've been trying to do new things, but, really, there are only so many configurations of jump you can come up with given the range of distance and sequence of things you can do. but, i still have a blast making and playing the maps xD and i still learn new stuff all the time.

Yeah great fun to play, I just don't know I could do something that has'nt already been done. I like those multidodge trials and stuff a lot.

well, there are tons and tons of maps out there - i've been slowly adding maps i like to my servers (look for [ psy ] under assault) and its hitting a point where i need to dedicate at least one of them to trial maps only. started playing ons and dm when ut2004 came out but i think my favorite by far are tricking maps.

Yeah I'd def dedicate man. The servers I see with trials mostly are, and I never could play too much assault online. I'm mostly a DM player, but those trials I think have a lot of crossover appeal from other gametypes:)

Hmm, I wonder if someone tried pathing trials for bots? Looks like a mapper challenge. I don't actually know if they can walldodge anyway, maybe it's possible with scripted sequences though.

i'm sure it could be done. i don't have the patience or time, really, but if someone were bold enough to try to botpath my trick maps i'd be seriously impressed if they got even half the jumps working right.

The point is that bots can do really great ShieldJumps (Look @ Aborea Trial), but I have no idea how to force them to walljump nor sidedodgejump - but they could use shieldjumping instead of the second one. Oh, and I have no experience in those UnrealScriptedSequences but could read something about them :)

you wanna give it a shot? i have a rather tame trial you could try with that is almost final version so pathing the most recent could be transposed to the final. http://ut2004.psyomnius.com/ForServerDownload/AS-psy-PillTrial01-04.ut2 (i actually have a newer version that has yet to be posted but the layout will most likely not change).

Hmm, already trying to path AS-TempleOfTrials-v4, but might try your one too.
Got them to pass the level 1 in 1 minute. One UnrealScriptedSequence, 20 JumpSpots and one Shield Jump. But making them dodgejump in the 2nd level will be hard, of course, will need an UnrealScriptedSequence too, but will have to experiment with timing... I can't make the dodge myself in-game too... <_< If it won't work, I could use cheats like ForceMoveToPoint or SetPhysics :P

rock on, if you get anything working, lemmie know. and if you want some help with the jumps and what to do, lemmie know. also, its not hard for me to throw up an alpha of your WIP to a server so we can go check it out together and jig with the setup (that goes for templeoftrials too). the only thing i can think of right away that would be important is to prevent the bots from pressing obj's.

Actually bots really behave like humans. They can fall down, get back, remember what they did and try something else until they succeed.
Pathed Temple Of Trials 2nd level to the slide chute, can't get them dodgejumping though. Maybe I need a different AI Script actor.
Anyway, here's what I have now:

aaaaawesome lead in! i've really been thinking lately that a TC or very close to it might be in order. i know there are tons and tons and TONS of trial maps out there - but really - none of them have a solid direction or story - its just tricking for the sake of tricking. i think if there were a solid story behind it and a gathering of talented mappers took place to get a string of trials focused behind the story it would be killer.
i also want to start working on some trick maps in ut3 but i need a faster machine (med settings is about the max my current machine can do without being forced to watch a slideshow).

The only way I can find to kinda make bots dodge jump is in DM mapping. You only use path nodes to connect the pathing from weapons and so on. Then they will tend to dodge and even dodge jump a fair bit, but I don't know how you would achieve this in a trial map since there are no "choke points" such as weapons or powerups.

Now added some narrator voices to liven up the map (you get an announcement if you get to a certain point first - not an objective, you don't get points, but you can see how much people have advanced). Tried messing with the AI scripts, no luck. They should trigger one AI script and teleport to the place they should go but they don't :( Maybe this has something to do with AI controllers though. Needs some experimenting.
About DodgeJumping, don't worry, it works fine - there's an option under JumpSpot, bDodgeUp, when it's set to True they attempt to dodge. Just that they don't WALL dodge - they try to turn around but aren't too fast :(

heh, i *JUST* got the registration emails (this morning @ just past midnight - like 10 of them because i kept doing the resend thing hoping something would click).
