View Full Version : Subtitles with kismet or Matinee?

I'm trying to set up some instances where i can have some Dialog via Subtitles. All i can find is info on SceneSubtitles in ut2k4 which doesn't really help me as far as I can tell. I'm trying to set up my prototype using kismet/matinee scripting exclusively, is it possible to get Subtitles without touching unrealscript at this point? And would you be kind enough to point me in the right direction?

It would be fairly simple to create a series of UIScenes with the text in it and just open and close those via Kismet as needed.

thanks. been looking into it. Now I have a related question, it it possible to trigger these scenes without input being disabled? I'd like the subtitles to appear during combat as well as during cut scenes.

Sure. In the UIScenes properties in the UIScene Editor, you can set the input type to none and also make sure it does not pause the game or display the cursor int he properties as well. I don't have the game in front of me currently or I would tell you the exact names of the properties.

Another related issue. I'm using this tutorial http://wiki.beyondunreal.com/Legacy:Solid_Snake/Using_Unreal_Engine_3.0s_UIScene
and so far it's been very helpful. I set up an image widget, and applied a skin to it. the skin shows up correctly in the UIscene editor, but when i trigger it in game I get the default (water bubbles) texture every time.

Also noticed this. I've been havign this error for a long time, i jsut never bothered to read it, and it hasnt caused problems with the editor before. http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y137/Reuomi/errorui.jpg

Hi, this thread haven't been updated...but hopefully someone can help...:(
Can anyone help me with implementing subtitles for in-game rpg? I'm using UDK July 2011 build, however UIScene have been removed and Scaleform is in use now and I am unable to find tutorials for it...:confused: For examples ref, it should work something like Prototype, or GOW since they are using UDK as well.
Thanks in advance, any help would be greatly appreciated. :o
