The Campaign
The proyect starts with a history that follow the game (read docs in .rar!!), many designs in paper, and starts to be real after many hours of reading,see tutorials,read forums (like this) and many error on compiling tasks.
I designed that as a 5 Chapters. Four of them are played as marcus and Dom as teammate (i don try to coop but kismet is not ready for that, so i think its posible to play coop but the main events are fired by Marcus, so it will not play fine in some cases). The last chapter is for Cole and baird, and its only a concept i will build asap, as a complement for the history, and it will be designed after the main campaign its over.
The whole campaign is in one link. The first and second chapters are finished (if any bug is found, please tell me for fix). THe third is under design and fourth its done about 60%. I still works on it, and exceppt if something happens to me, it will be finished. For info about the "noveled" storyline read the docs in the map pack .
The levels published has the next features:

Chapter 1: Wellcome to Arryan city: *

- A outer location with custom buildings, and some little design stuff.
- No working checkpoints in this chapter. In the future maybe i add that to this map.
- difficult its hard/very hard, but it can be done... just take care about the ammo, and look for the "Hammer" to destroy the harder enemies.
- An advise, keep Dom alive as far as you can, his help can set the difference between fail or finish the map.
- Auto load of next chapter. as i dont use a loading screen it will be black during load, just wait.
- Lower machines may experience a bad fps rate because lots of models are spawned. If this happens try setting a lower config. I have a hd4850 with Athlon X2 4200+ and works very fluid (40-60 fps)

Chapter 2: Something Inside: *

- Three floors to explore, with some battles.
- Hard-Very hard (and near of insane in some moments for medium players)
- Full working Checkpoits (2 checkpoints)
- You have to activate some triggers to reach the final exit of the level, so pay attention to ligth signals, buttons and and messages in screen.
- advice: keep your allys alive, or you will be killed. Cooperation with them is the key.

note: in this beta you have to explore the third floor of a building and recover the data. Find some keys to open some doors... you must find them to open the doors that aloow you progress and get out of this floor. There is no any warning about the finish of the demo, it finish when you can go to second floor but dont close itself or something. Any question will be answered in this forum.

Jejeje, no se por qué, Interlock, pero intuía que eras de la tierra, y no me equivocaba. De hecho te iba a mandar un correo, para averiguarlo e intercambiar impresiones, pero estoy cortito con leche de tiempo, y al final no he podido, aunque tengo tu mail en un posit en mi mesa. Me descargué tu mapa, y lo jugué. Me gustó, está muy conseguido, sobre todo el aspecto "basuril". Por cierto, que cantidad más bestia de Locust en el último asalto, casi como la demo del motor 3.5 (bueno, no tanto pero casi,casi). Muy bueno también lo de cargarse al sembrador con el tren... yo también quiero practicar los constraints, dan mucho juego bien usados. Casi salto de la silla cundo vi la cutscene del helicoptero: te juro que mi idea inicial para el inicio del mapa era casi exacta, incluyendo las luces, el impacto... quizá no es de lo más original, pero es curioso que se nos ocurriera lo mismo (Otra opción era una llegada en un convoy de armadillos atacado por reavers, pero como dije mi conocimiento de los interpretes es muy limitado aún para una escena tn cinematográfica). Al final opté por empezar con el helicoptero ya estrellado porque todavía no tengo un buen (ni malo) dominio de animación de interpretes... ahi me vendría bien una ayudita, porque estoy frito. No he podido ni hacer andar a un modelo de Bird...
Lo de los Checkpoints, por lo que lei de tu tutorial, hace falta desglosar la fase en niveles separados, ¿o era por lo del streaming?. Eso es otra cosa muy interesante. De cualquier manera, mi mapa está todo en un bloque, y no se si una vez hecho asi se puede separar... Inicialmente el mapa era como el doble o el triple, pero para no cargar mucho al compilador y a la máquina lo simplifique y le quite varias calles del diseño original, que era con un poco más de callejeo. Si sabes como afrontarlo, abierto estoy al tema. De hecho, no estoy contento con el mapa en muchos aspectos, y aún me planteo remodelarlo casi entero, pero necesitaba un poco de animo/critica para motivarme, que dedicar tantas horas en solitario a un proyecto de este tipo, sin que nadie de tu entorno se de cuenta de que va el tema realmente, quema un poco.
Bueno, espero que me digas algo. No seas duro, que es mi primera vez, jejeje.

Bueno, todavia no he podido ver tu mapa porque estoy en el curro. En cuanto pueda te digo algo.
Lo de los checkpoints y el streaming ya te lo explicare mas detenidamente. Es normal que lleguemos a las mismas ideas, eso siempre pasa con los grandes pensadores.

Well Core2TOM, if you dont use a language that i could understand, i never figure what are you saying... and still type in spanish... and in any case,tipyng in german you can´t tell me dont use my motherlanguage...

thanks Sid, i want to follow the saga with others maps. If i can i start one new thread soon in betas releases forum for the second map, that is still in WIP (Work in Progress). I tell it in this thread when i start it.

I couldnt try the map in coop yet. If someone found any problem to play coop, tell it.
MSO429, i can play the map in medium, in fact, i usually play in medium quality, but the map config texture is set to "high". If anyone has the same problem i retry to fix it, but dont know why happen your failure.

Well, i think many people have tested the first map at this point... what dou you think about the map?. Likes the background history?.wants a beta of WIP fallout02?. any ideas for the next chapter? .nobody rates this post?... a bit of feedback, please.

Thanks for your opinion. Have played the fallout01? wich events or things you want to see in other maps of the series? what places wnt to visit in the game?. I have a clear idea for i want to do, but other points of view or items are so valuable for me.
I plan to release a full playable beta of Fallout02 soon, but i have not many time now to finish it yet. Probably in a week. It will be anounced properly (:))

Well, the surgery was harder that i expected :eek:, but i´m enought replenish to work again... :D
EDIT [i think this weekend i can release a beta of the map] - No way, have to travel this wekend... soon, i will release, but iwill no give date anymore, looks like ever i said one it cant be posible.... There are a few enemy but IA its not completed atall , and the paths its no finished yet. I only release this becouse i´m taking too much time i expected at first to finish it, and the global ambient work its near the final apparence. First part its the first at all (even fallout01 map i start to build, so its a little simple, but as its awarm up zone it dosnt matter for me).
Hope community will test it and give opinions about it...
And of course, because i need a little bit of support to keep on working :)
Because its fully linked to the initial map, the links of the beta will be released here (its useless put it on beta releases if both will be linked each other). If moderators or administrators have any other considerations, only have to tell, i assume his/her will.). It will be anounced properly. Bye

Well, at Last i have finished the beta that i promissed and edited the initial post to add it. holidays are really "holy"... .There are a lot of things to do before the second map its finished, but two things make me release this Beta.
1) There is a lot of job in the new cutscene and in the design of the new map, and i want some feedback abot how it looks like...
2) I finally can connect the first map to the second one, and the cutscenes, so you can play it from the initial mision and continue in the next map by itself, like a true campaign.
Actually, when you play and finish "Fallout, Episode I: Wellcome", the next episode, "Fallout episode II:Something Inside" starts.Anyway, you can start in the second episode or the cutscene opening it by his name in the console. Read the document for more info.
The dowload links are in the first post edited.As the first map has been changued, i repack all the dowloads in a only zip (the first final version of the fallout01 map will be replaced).
I hope you like it and enjoy the game... as soon as i can i will publish the final version.

At first, hello all. I apologize if my English its not perfect, I am from Sevilla, (Spain), and its a little hard for me to find the right way to say all I want to say in English. You can call me Nazgul24 aka Spartan18877 aka Daniel :D . Let me talk a little about the map and myself. I love design and video games, and wanted to make something like a full video game... (Who doesn't?). I have a bit of experience with Source editor, but never got the flow of making levels to make a functional one. But at last, with Unreal Editor and Gears of War I found the motivation,tools, and time (less sleep hours) to make something that I think is good enough to post... my first map.

And here it is: a First map for a GoW Single player campaign of 3-5 maps... its name is "The Fallout". At last, with a little help of my friends (all the community) and personal efforts, I finished this first map. As the first map I have done, its more than possible that many errors have passed my attention. Nevertheless, I think it´s pretty finished to post here and not in Beta posts.

The map itself is not too large, and the path to follow is not complex at all. It centers on game flow. I think the way the map maker plays reflects in the maps... I like a progressive and strategic advance over a simply shoot all style. You only have to reach the last building (the base), enter it using the code Marcus has... and stay alive. Its hard, and takes a while to reach the base, and you will probably die many times. There is a hard resistance, and you have to advance progressively to have a chance, like in a real urban war. A few advices:
*ammo its not endless... beware of wasting it. Learn where it is placed.
*beware of Snipers... and Theron... and Boomers...They are easily visible, but can kill you in one shoot...as you know. Use cover wisely.
*there is ONE Hammer of Dawn somewhere...you´ll need it.
*Try to keep Dom alive, his help and cover is really useful, even needed in some moments in this map.
*the map doesn't have any checkpoints yet, so be patient in your advance or you have to start again.

The whole campaign is in one link now. As the first map have been modified to connect with the rest of them, and dont need to be changued again (at last until i remake something on it or any fail is detected), i repack the first with this beta. The usual is to play all the campaign by type "open SP_fallout01" in the console, but if only want to play from the beta, starts by type "open Fallout_Inter01".

Well, then please tell me where you find the bugs (and what are) ... otherwise i cant know what is wrong so i can fix them. The "exits" you found in the map... are those the bugs?. i have played it a lot of times and dont found nothing wrong. Thanks for warning...

Well, i´d like to read more opinions of the map, focused in the beta part, the cinematic scene and when M&D goes into the base... (where the elevator is..).
Because i am working on it, i know all the issues of the map, but for any persons many things can be missed. I have to work on it, putting on some info text. For example, i have to tell to some people that have see the map the elevator in the load area it is full funtional (and point to the center of it to aim the button on the elecator itself), but to make it work, requires a bit of search. It requires the fuel wheel (it is near the small office in the same area... - in the alpha version it will be so far away and hidden, of course-) is turned on, and the engine is started to work(the ligths turn to orange and green with each one step, and then the elevator works). Unfortunatelly i havent put the needed info text yet... so anyone could be confused... or think there is nothing to do in the area... . I will work on infos or matinees scenes to fix that in next release.

Well, nobody else will give an opinion about the campaign...? or the beta level? or nothing at all? in 8 days more than 1000 visitors, but only 3 persons have post since last release, and one of them becouse he could found te download link... . I know many people are in vactions now, but anyway it is a bit frustrating... dont know what to think, if the map dont likes,or people dont have any critic spirit (at last at design or ideas) at all, or too busy to post nothing.
I want neither praises nor empty critiques, only that opinion deserves you or what things you will add, fix or erase, if likes the design, or prefer other style of game... for example: modify the level of dificulty of the game, somebody wants crossed misions with another characters, like cole and baird, or even a locust mission? any localitation ever want to see in gow?... well, anything about the map, you know.

ok, i´ll wait your feedback... Remember the second part its no finished yet and have been released as a Beta level.The first stage its hard, be fast and carefull if you want to survive (keep Dom Alive will help). Enjoy it.

I think in the last room in the beta, you should be a little more informational. I got stuck because i couldnt find the button to activate the elevator and it was pretty annoying. But other than that it was a really fun map. Oh and i think you should add some traps, it would be awesome.

Yes, in the storage room i will put a few info texts and look at stuff that will be displayed with the sounds of inactive elevator/engine...; its all planned. Anyway, i plan to use the elevator will be more difficult, becouse the valve that opens the gas (so you can starts the elevator engine) that is in near the tunnel,will be hidden in another part of the complex. I want to give a little adventure to the game, so you can rest your thumbs between battles and enjoy and explore... (its why i try to make a good enviroment). Probably I will show what to do with the elevator/switch/valve in a little video/matineee when entering the zone. I am working on it and with some stuff with UECN maps (see my signature). Hope soon will be another release.
About the traps, its a very good idea... i have a few ones... the bad thing its ihave not time top explore all the different things... but i try to include at last one or two of them (as i said, i want to give the campaign a little of adventure, and it can help).

I dont know why happen it; nobody tells about it, and i can play the entire game from begin to end. The levels are not so optimized as original game levels you play in the game, perhaps you must have a more powerfull pc to play it in a good fps. Try to get lower the performance of your config.
As i´m writting i´d like to tell i keep on the project, but some personal stuff burns all my time, so my work is slower than i want and plan in a first time. I try to release some new content not too much later. thanks.

Well, when i start to work in the first chapter i dont have no idea about the checkpoints, so i do a huge map full with locust; in fact, the map its exactly what i wanted, give you the sensation of a pre-lost battle... the first part its focused to test skills of the player, and when you get into the gate of the headquarters start the second part, and you can only resist... . I like it like it is now, but its true that a checkpoint will be wellcome for non-expert players... i usually get killed many times in this chapter too (;)) .
Now i´m fully focused to finish second chapter and matinees of 3 and 4, so as the 1st one its fully playable (hard, but funny), i will not aply checkpoints to it right now. If i can get enought time for it, i will try to make it work with checkpoints any where. i promise you i will try.
Soon i will update the first post with a lot of info and screens about the new chapters (i work at the same time in 2-3-and 4, to avoid boring myself and make it a motivation for design (:)) ) . If you like the design of the first, you will love the others!! (in one of them the figth its under the rain (=)), and use custom textures and one or two gow2 music themes... ). They are more detailed, and properly ambient than the first one. You will see soon, hope you like and tell about it.

gears 2 big battle campaign really impress me deeply, i always love tight battles like this.
fallout1 plays fun, wide open area, locust horde wave after wave,just what we want.
it's really a long time after fallout1, this is the only custom sp map that gave me some battlefield feelings.
gears1 need more maps like this, thx,i love spain...;)

Yes, it was too long from the first chapter, but i have some personal reasons that stop my mapping for a while, but i think i can have ready the 3rd in very less time that the second one, and 4th its very advanced, as you can see in the screenshoots (the brumak one has become my wallpaper... (;))).

fallout 2 can play, but there's a bug about first door, sometimes when you shoot the tank while the locust stand near the door, the door can't open ,and also .i can't find a way to open the second big door, there's a cut scene to show locust coming out from there, but pushing the trigger aside can't open it, any secret way else to go through? finally hope add more light in dark area.thx man!!..

****... sorry, i upload a version i mod for some tests of the first map. It will be fixed asap. i think i take maps from published and i make some kismet ajust after test so the start point its no the correct one.
About the second map, the tank always open the door in my tests... even with a locust body blocking the dorr, it ever opens...and i test that many many times... If you can detect any way to make it fail, so i can do it, please tell me. The second door must open properly as the first when you push the button... . Its rare, the two things never failed for me. Anyway i will recompile, i will test it again.
i will re-compile and retest both maps, and update the links asap, but this weekend i go out of the city and cant do nothing. I will try to fix this evening but i dont think i have enougth time.
Sorry for that. i will edit main post now to avoid any dowload until i fix that. Thanks for the warning.

I got stuck in a horseshoe-shaped hallway with about 5 different closed doors. I killed all of the locusts in the area, and there was a room at the end of a hall with a ton of ammo. But I couldn't find a way out.
The matinee could use some polish still. The animations are a little jumpy at the start of fallout 2 I think.
Also, the locust are tough as nails, so you may want to add some checkpoints.
This looks like it took a lot of work to make. Good job!

i´m awesome busy the last days... i´m sorry if it take me more time than i want. I have to fix very little things but i have no time... i try this week. About the early famous "horseshoe-shaped hallway " -it will become the official name -, entering to that, in the left way, the same where the little matinee shows the 3 locust arriving, there is a big door with a button... (you can see in right side in that matinee). The button its in the left of the door... it MUST open the door, but as i said a few post above, i´m remaking all levels and test them in deep to avoid compilation bugs, confusing things or errors. I will play all the levels to test the maps.
Anyway, except a compilation error in the last release in the fallout02_Main, or corruption issues in rar/unrar, in all my tests the button of that door works ok. Dont worry about it, soon i will release a recompiled and full tested version of all maps.

Ok, the maps are fixed, and rebuilded. I test them ,and all the campaign can be played from beggining to end witout problems. I "underline" buttons with green ligths, so you can miss them, and remake some aspects of the cutscene, so it runs better.

Thanks for your support, man. About the dark in the act 2, i wanted to be like that in the begining of the second chapter, in order to get a more oppresive ambient, in contrast with the big space of the first map, and the main room of the second map. I like the feeling of the dark in the first room, because many times locust flank you and you cant see them clear, except of the emissive of armors, weapons and googles of them, so you have to shoot near blind if they do. in other side, in the first corridor you can ligth with the propane tanks... i like a lot the lights off with the first tank explode... .perhaps its no obvious but through the chapters night comes, and its the reason in the main garage light its orange. In the next one light its similar but i will use a lot of auxiliar lights like lamps, fires, etc. to avoid an excesive darkness.
About the horde like waves, dont worry, i plan to make one or two horde like fights with a high number of enemies, starting with a few locust ant ending with a huge assault. I think it will likes to you... :D

great thx man, you know i only played your sp map for many times, they got great potentianl,
other sp is really really short ,and also low replay value, you see most of them can't last for at least 10 minutes,
that's the main reason we love Horde mode and it go official in gears 2.
yeah i know the dark can bring tough battle, but we can't see the detail of things, the map design ,
level constructure,etc...we want to see your map level design, man, so maybe more light and tank could be better,
finally i should say these are the best sp map currently i played, keep going ,man.
you are a great gears mapper,i hope more guys can keep making bot maps like you, thx!!!

i must confess the dark areas are a good resource for a non high detail area... :D:D:D .being serious, the dark its a design resource as good as light... in certain areas the light can be the best thing you can add, but no in everywhere. Darkness can make an atmosphere better than light sometimes... only look at resident evil or silent hilll.
I´m thinking to add a flashlight attached to the player and teammates in a early black scene i´m designing now, but this is anbother history...
dont worry, because i plan to design a less darkness enviroment in fiuture maps... even the chapter 4 screenshoots (you can see in first post are not absolut dark, and it is in close night). Thank for your support!!!!

Well, in other order of things, tell i´m working on chapter 3 now, and soon i will post some screenshoots. It will include in chapter 3 indoor/outdoor interations, some cinematics and, of course continues the main history (read the .txt in the pack; i would like to cinematic all the history and use custom voices for the dialogs but i have no enougth time. perhaps i would made an intro when i get some free days in job :)).

well, as a gears pc player, i can say i love bot maps, and no interested in mp maps at all.
as for bot maps, i prefer bot death match and horde mode, replay again and again.
about sp maps, extra movie and extra things is really great, man...
other hand sp gameplay can't last longer, so love more combat map level design,
also hope there're tip to show where the map is over, or we don't know what to do next...

I agree with you, i preffer a good sp map, new missions or horde mode, both are great. I agree too some cutscenes in a sp, even minor ones that shows how door opens or the changues an action mades in the enviroment of the player, because it becomes more inmersive.
I would like to add an opening screen, like the main campaign, a scrolling text telling history (multilanguage, at last english and spanish), add a loading screen between maps (actually a use a simple travel map to change between maps) and some simply achievements, but i dont know how to do it... About the opening screen, i have seen something of the main campaign, it uses a map file, using a bsp or plane with the textures of the crimson omen, and some emitters for the flames... i dont know how it allows to navigate, select chapters or simply changue the message of screen... I think it could be a game of hidden/unhiden different planes as layers activated by inputs of keyboard, but its only a idea, and i think must be a simpler way to do it...
well, about my own map, Darksin, i think all its enought clear and marked, as the buttons and cutsecenes that shows where is the open door or messages that tells whats happening... isn´t it?. I other side i dont like an excesive info to read in screen, because it breaks the gameflow... and a little less info makes you explore a little bit and increase the "suspense" that can give you a visual info.
I dont want to become this tread a offtopic about SP preffered things, i preffer talk about my campaign, but it seems to me a good chance to learn what things the people like, so i can put them in my little project. In order to conyinue with that, i will open a new thread to talk about it, and invite all to give an opinion/ideas or anything in:

LOL, yes i know you like chapter 1..., man dont worry, you will get more of that in the 4rth chapter... third have more exploration zones with small but tought combats, as it ocurrs inside a 2-3 floors building, but it will have a moment in which, from a wide balcony, you have to deal with some snipers and - i hope i can add them- some reaver waves. I´m thinking about include it in two distinct flloors in order to be a air/distance combat in higher and a content exercise of a ground invasion. In other moment you have to hold some waves of locust from 2 or 3 diferent focus... i plan set a high number of waves, like 9 or 10 (from a few wretches and drones , to up 20 enemies at the same time -with a little help of your friends, of course ). But all of that its in wip, and has to be hard tested to avoid it becomes an imposible mission... the line between intensive combat and a Rambo´s Tale its too slim.

I want to keep on with the campaign, because its for me a personal goal, so i dont going to give up. Dont worry about it. The only thing makes me feel bad is the silence about the work i have done. I really apreciate your opinion, as all ones the people have posted here. But i see a total number of visits , near 10000, but very little feedback, and it makes me think it dont likes or something is wrong with it.
Anyway i feel supported by the fact of being the fourth most readed post, and for the collaboration of those who say that they like Fallout, and of those that contribute with ideas and critiques. I assume that the silent mass must estimate my maps, like you say. thanks for all your support.

Yes, i agree with that. For that reason i do the first map this way. But for a campaign as this, must have to be exploration sectors, little puzzles or activation required doors etc. , that break the routine. If it was all-time-shooting, it dont be fun.
In the combination and equilibrium is the key. Dont worry Darksin, I KNOW you like battlefield style as me and a lot of people in the community, so, third chapter will combine the best of second chapter and if the editor dont betray me * it will include too a tough battle in a big outside court/parking of a building. You can imagine the rest...
*(its failing in a incremental way ,even with empty maps to test it , in simply tasks like alt+drag to copy or even save... i dont know what happen or has changued, i only know that game runs at FULL with 60fps without problems in my pc, and from not a long time to now, it start to crash more and more... perhaps its a paranoic thought but it seems to begin with the last pc update... .If anyone can help with that, i will invite him/her to a beer if comes to Seville, i promise :D:D:D)

Well, it is the question of the million dollars. Now my pace of work has returned to be more rapid, and I calculate that the chapter 3 is up to 50 % of design of stages and 35 % of system of game (i have all designed, but it takes time to implement it in the editor).Take care that this level its bigger than chaptter 2 and i want to implement more "game time" to it, so it requires a lot of work. Maybe in a month i can release a playable Beta that is worth it, but i will add some info about the level regularly. I cant tell nothing more exact yet, sorry.

Be patient,man!! these are WIP screenshoots, only for take a light idea of the ambient, not all the details have been added yet... i start to add some gameplay to make the "making it" more funny... . but I will add a incipient rain, more details and a lot of stuff yet... and i cant add a screenshoot of any corner of the map... believe me, its bigger and more complex than it appears, and a lot of more attractive in motion. A correct ambient takes a long time for design and implementation. i would like to make a little video and put that in you tube, but i have not time for that.
About the skydome... dont you see the shinning sun? :D. Night its coming, but it havent come yet, so skydome cant be a night one, it will be an incoherence. I use this one because the coloration fits well with the position of sun in the horizon.
The night map its in the fourth chapter, as you can see in screenshoots of past posts.

The brumak figth will happens on chapter 4 (a sort of horde mode map with some waves). Its about 50% of global WIP, but i want to center in chapter 3 now. I dont think nobody can handle 2 brumaks... maybe i can combine it with other enemies... but i dont want to tell much more yet... :D
About the atmosphere of the sky in chapter 3, i´m studing about add some emissives to generate clouds or more dust... it has fog, but it looks too clear now... we´ll see what to do with that.

Well, some weeks have pass and WIP goes fine, but slow. Anyway i will take my holydays very soon, so i will give a good advance in chapter 3. As i tell before its a building with some levels, and top one its ready for play. Its not too long yet, but its a 15-20% of gameplay of the all map. Thanks for your support. I never gone, only i have no time to finish the level. I´m having some problems with chapter 3, it crash on game, but works fine in editor, i have pass 3 days bumping my head on my desk... but it semms to be solved by now.
That dammed problem is stopping the build for the rest of the level, but i hope i can use more time in next weeks, to finish the level at last. if all its allright i can release a fully playable beta 1.0 , like you named it, in a few days, while i finish the other parts of the map... i hate how the problem that causes the editor can breake the rest of the creation proccess of the maps, but it is over my control.

At last, i make it work!!. I´´m suffering with crashes of this map, but it seems by cooking it the game can play it and works... this is only a beta and i think several fails comes from the cooked source version, but it works in my pc fine but some light problems.

Finally made it to Beta. :) I was only able to play for a short period of time so far. The BSP did not have any lighting when I loaded the 'Main' file if I remember correctly. The bots were challenging, so I look forward to playing some more this weekend. Thanks!

The problem i have is that the uncooked builded map crash and close the game, so i upload the cooked version but not the cache files. I will repair it asap.
I think i´m very near of the solution to publish the uncooked version, but i think at last people can test the game play of the first part of the map while i keep working. I´m glad you have find the bots enought good. I keep on WIP!!!

ok, i played the map and found it need optimized , the framerate is really low everywhere, it drop a lot in rooms and on roofs drop more...other than that's it's ok, not many locusts maybe it's just a beta.
i played till the roof, so i hope you can improve the framerate like levels before, fallout 2 got high fps, even fallout1 fps is much higher then fallout3 beta, thx!!...

I´m surprised about low fps... i test a lot and always works over 45 fps (even 60 many times... very very fluid indeed) everywhere in the map (and my pc its near basic.. a AMD X2 64 2.1, 3G of RAM 667 and a ATI 4850HD ). And this time its the map only without cook or something... just the maps and no cache on testing by my side (i delete it on every test).
THIS POINT COULD BE TESTED AND NOTIFY BY OTHERS?
About the amount of locust... LOL....i will increase a bit the number in certain moments indeed, but there are a high numbers of them in relation the playable surface at the moment... note that this is only the first floor and rooftop of a building. when it finally have finished it,i promise you havent enought ammo to kill all the locust that will appears (;)). Anyway i think 5 reavers, 2 boomers, 9 wretches, 10 theron, 15 drones and granadiers, 2 troika locust and a sniper (a global of 44!!) arent a low number of locust... are they?. You have unlock all the doors? have use the chaingun of the rooftop? the goal its not the rooftop, you must take the red key and open the floor door that allows you go to the next floor...
In any case, this is a beta of PART of the chapter 3 to testing only, and i´m sure it will be modified. dont worry about the hard it will be.... LOL.

a very little problem is when i load the map and meet the first door, i can't kick it open, i shoot the panel aside and push the action button near the door but found no effect, seems i should stand in the right place to kick successfully, if i stand too near the door, the kick animation can't be done...

Anyway , I WILL RELEASE IN A MINUTES A COOKED VERSION, TEST IT AND TELL. I WILL WARNING ANYONE WHO WANT TO HELP TESTING THE TWO VERSIONS WITH A POST IN BETA SECTION.
About the problem with the door, its only a question of align the position of the trigger. I will take care of it.

YEs. The pc version includes the unreal editor so we can create our own content, like mp maps. or in this case, a SP campaign.

I dont remerber have used any dynamic light... its true i have used 2 directional lights plus a ambient light to the main atmosphere (can it cause the fail?), and i use at first a few prefab lamp but i toogle them and use some of the lights its uses... I must try to delete the prefabs coming lights and rebuil them from simple lights?. About the checkpoints, it never crash on my game... in the editor the checkpoints never works. You have tested it in the game or in the editor?.

Everything I tested was in-game. Not from the Editor.
You're having bad optimization at the game start. I'm not referring to streaming in textures, but how you get bad FPS where the wretches are coming at you. This corridor, by the way it is doesn't look like it should lag this much. the engine optimize itself in a very decent way when you have a lot of walls surrounding your FOV. It's called occlusion. everything behind these walls are not being rendered. So I suspect something really smelly in there, or your map is really big and have something out there lagging. I couldn't make it that far, every time I died the game crashed when reloading checkpoints. This isn't usual.
Also, all static lights are able to be set to dynamic. Usually your light bulb would have a "U" in it. That's for spot lights at least.
Just try to select all your lights using the right click -> select all spot lights and so on. Do the same with ambient and directional lights, then make sure, from the properties, that the lighting isn't set to dynamic anywhere. If you see a half checked box, that means one or more of them is, so you just got to click on it until it turns blank.
Dynamic lights are O.K. to use in specific cases, especially for door switches. Otherwise, using them for an open world is just going to kill the performance.

I will see about the lights; i use a few toogle lights (i just remember when you mention it) for door switch, and 3 pick-up (when you get an object i put the lights as hidden and unhide others) but all of them has a low radius. I will get sure the others lights are not set on like dynamic ones.
About the world, its big, but the player dont see it all time, just from the balcony or the rooftop, so i expect its not the problem.

Long time have gone!! sorry, i keep on work when i can... in one side i havent many time to expend on it, and in the other i pass hours to do a few little things because the editor breaks all the time with the most little things. it really hard to do anything in that way...
I really want a stable version, Epic. You are killing GoW Pc Comunity with that, who wants to expend time on a non working editor?. We are loosing tons of contents from the comunity, i´m sure... and i know many mappers and moders that have gone to source editor or others, because it a pain working that way. the only reason i keep on it its i love edition, and gow. I´m spanish and even was about to order the Mastering Unreal Books.... but, for wahrIf anyone can read this (from epic ort not) and answer them, i have some easy questions:
1)I know the editor its unattended, but if you can answer i will be happy: I have a X2 2.1/3 G of RAM /ATI hd4850 and the game runs great...and my editor crash even 6 times en less of a hour, with a simple map ... what machine i need to work properly with editor?
2)an idea i have just get... the settings of the game can affect the editor performance? it can be more stable if i set the game 640x800 and less detailed, for example?
3)There is a way to get a better version of the editor for amateur mods/content design?
I will not tell any release date anymore, so i cant promise i can do it in a fixed date. I will try to finish it asap. 1)I usually have post-process to low, which turns out that is why darksin keeps commenting on my maps being too dark, when I turned it on high, I realized how different my maps became. I keep my resolution around the middle, and I keep character details, textures and shadows at medium. So far for me the only time mine crashes is when I go too fast and click before something is fully loaded.
2) So far medium settings has worked for me, with the odd glitch here and there, like when it crashed when trying to open any map, but I found a solution to it.
3)Haha, if only, we all know Epic is done with gears 1 PC, especially after January 28 when they had to fix a big mistake. The best thing to do is take your time with your work, I find I can get way more stuff done if I let the editor rest about 2 seconds after everything I open, like maps, packages, and opening anything in the packages.
Great to know this project is going slow but steady. It's good to see Gridlockshock has posted something new as well, so we got 2 mods going strong.

I must apologize, because my english sometimes betrays me... if i understand, you welll, if you changue the settings of the game (not from the world properties) you tell the results are different?. I see that ib different resolutions or settings the light in the maps increase or decrease, but it happens with all the maps... you refer to this?.
About the ingame settings, i will try to put them in low/middle performance and try to edit, and see if i can work without chainsaw my pc in a "epic" rage explosion.... And i wait a few seconds ever, even after put anything in the World or Drag and Copy (this its my biggest nemesis)... . Can be a so stupid thing like a link between the config of the game and the editor performance can solve this thing?... well see...

Ey, and how you sole the problem of open map crash?. Any tip can be valuable for me!!! (perhaps you detelete cache files from unpublished?). Thanks for your comments!!

Yes, indeed, itstaking me much time to finish, but i have a lot of problems that burn all my time, and to make it "easier", the crashes of the editor. I use near 3 months to finish a simple room and a corridor... you can imagine.
BUT.... i put the resolution in a lower value, set all to middle/low, and.... it seems to work!!!!. Incrtedible but true: the game runs like hell, but without all the effects that must be in, but the editor runs very better. I work yesterday during at last 3 hours and a half, and no crash at all... its true that i have to set again all in high for compilation, and crash one time, but it dont matters for me... i can work again!!!. I did yesterday more that the past 3 months, i hope i can keep this workflow and publish something soon.
I must tell you dont disable all the settings, like decals or post processing or you cant see it in the editor, so it can affect the real apparence in other settings... for example i put decals in "none" in the game config and the decals dissapears in the editor, the icon keeps but the decal itself are not shown. For that you can put it to minimum settings but not disable it.
Its awesome the difference between the performance in the editor and ingame, and it´s a pity nobody tells it before...

Yeah, it's been almost 2 years now, and we've finally figured out which settings are needed (like post processing, I always had mine on low, so my maps were always brighter to me.).
And Darksin, you keep talking about horde mode, and I've come to the conclusion that there is literally 3 horde type modes:
1. Horde from bloodraven14(link is dead, he is banned, but I still have the map)
2. BurnedInternal horde (on the new gridlock, he even got co-op working)
3. I think ismik on moddb came up with a horde mode, along with many lance 2 maps.(It's too bad it's stopped, there's still a few I want to experience, like the 4 detox maps).
I believe all three of them, are currently not active on the forums. It'd be a lot of work to make a horde mode, and I currently don't have that much time, hence why my locust campaign is still a beta, I haven't worked on it once after I released it on moddb.

Thx to Jugger's 3 choices but i already got all of them long time ago, u c maybe i'm the only guy who played all types of gears bot maps,lol, i still play them nowadays, high replay value, that's why i love lance dm and Horde maps so much more than sp and hope for more, really fun. If finally gears 2 come to pc, i definitelly hope modders and mappers make the official Horde offline first, since Epic will never do this like UT bot fully supported.:rolleyes:

Thanks! i thought nobody remebers this. Months ago i have try to return to work, but I'm rusty with the editor, some games to play, and think it has no interest for nobody but me, it gaves me lazy. Since I have the 3 gears I've become a cheer, and I will try to resume it. I'm getting married in November and I move, so you can imagine that I will not have much time, but I'm definitely going to continue with the project. Better late than never, i think. Right now i´m reinstalling the game, i hope it will work for windows 7...

Have you tried it with lower settings? in medium level i remeber they work good for me in a no too powerfull pc. Indeed my maps are not so optimized as Epic ones... When I started them i have nothing about streaming of levels and other tips, and i cant redo all again from zero!. Anyway i have to re-learn some skills and read the Epic unreal editor Guides, so if i found any thing i can do to make the work smoothly , be sure i will try to use it.
I will try first to finish the campaign (The last level, and link'em all), then optimize it (fix enemy, music, ambient, cinematics), and maybe, only maybe, do an extra level. All depends on the free time i could steel to my wife (yeah! i get married!) and the Gears 3.

I have just make the editor run on Windows 7... i cost me a lot install the game ... I will try to remember "how to" and start to work aqain with it, at last to finish the chapters 3 and 4 and put all together. If i knew how to make an UI to make screens... .I cant promise nothing but iĺl try to finish this finally. I hope "the hand knows the way" because iḿ rusty with the editor now. I hope someone wants to play it yet.
