I have the first area of the map complete. It is short but I am also working on an indoor area also. For now I want people to start giving me information on the first part. Give me all comments you can about aesthetics, gameplay, audio etc. I will ask some more specific questions once I get your unspoiled first impressions. I have some things that are bothering me but I want to see if you catch them first. The more detailed your reply the better. Which directions did you go, what sort of things did you see or find neat or annoying. There is no ending yet. Be content once you have explored and killed everything.

Bugs I would like help fixing:

-I need my nemacysts to attack the player
-A drone behind some rocks sitting on some ammo always looks the wrong way until you shoot him. I want him to face a different direction.

-I have some ammo placed but it does not allow you to pick it up. I have tried moving it around quite a bit, even putting a blocking vol under it but to no avail. Ammo works a few meters away but I want it in that place as a secret.

-I created a material and included normal maps and specular maps. The material effects work fine in the material editor preview mode but do not appear on the actual ground. I hit the button to update the material in the editor but it still does not show up. I also wonder if I can use DISP and OCC maps because I created them with crazybump but I had no success hooking them up to the different nodes. Nothing changes appearance.

Wow your gaining some ground on the project. Nice to see that there is finally snow in Gears of War. I'll test it out in a little bit and leave some feedback afterward. Keep up the good work.

Looks awesome! I'm gonna test it soon as possible.

EDIT:

I played it and it was really good looking map, but I couldn't move a bit, because there were enemies on every roof and ammo was low all the time. Actually... That's was fun and challenging.

I hope there will be more cover places, because I was behind this one little rock all the time until I ran out of ammo.
Seeder's little bugs aren't moving at all. They just stay up in the air watching me.

So far, this map looks awesome and really challenging.

thanks for the info pappi man. That is the major issue I have - the ammo issue. You see, I want the player to go to the left under the two troikas first before he goes to the right. To try to get people to do that I limited the ammo and added q-looks. I think the problem needs to be addressed but at the moment I am out of ideas. How to get the player to go to the left first? I thought about adding a cinematic that shows the player to go that way first. But cinematics during action are a pain in the ass.

When I was playing that map I wanted to go left too, but there troikas and other damned locust. How 'bout removing troikas from left and add more troikas(3 Troikas :D) on the right?
I'm sure, that players will notice that they need some ammo so the only option is to go to left and check it out.
or Simple way is adding more cover on left and left right path fewer cover.

I tried this map. I like this spectacle.

I think need detail normal maps to ground to snow, and to rocks. The rocks too big anyway... and I think you need to use other texture, like these: Link (http://www.cgtextures.com/textures.php?t=browse&q=423)
Of course these textures aren't perfect, need little work for seamless map.

Enemy is hard enught :)
But I haven't enught cover. The rock ruins isn't perfect cover, because the enemy can shoot me in cover. Use other cover mesh...

I don't understand the 2 troikas at left... this make harder gameplay, but isn't too fun... enemy everywhere :D strong enemy.

I died at Wretches :(
I didn't hear those, and Dom didn't howl...

On the whole this is awesome map!
Work on it!

Sick map.. I love it. Got caught in a three way crossfire and died pretty early on but wow. Great job man.

I really want more different taste Custom map for GOW
like blue sky on beach or in beautifull Forest ete ...
anyways I want more Colors in GOW ;)

Thanks for all the replies guys! I didn't check this thread for a while and I was amazed to find all of the nice messages. I worked on it for a long time yesterday and today and have really tweaked the gameplay a lot thanks to your suggestions. For example:

-Removed a troika at the left and put some ammo visible so player will know to go that way first.
-Changed the condition for the second wave of enemies so that instead of a timer, they spawn a while after you go to the left. Modified which enemies spawn too to make it more fun.
-Fixed some cover
-Added orders for Dom to move around the map more and provide you with better help.

I sent you a message about the textures Theodoric. Also I will add Dom yelling "More locust" or something like that at the beginning of each battle. I forgot to do that!
