WARNING: Wall of Text alert! :p

I thought I'd start up a thread for people to discuss what they want to see and what they don't want to see in the sequel to the awesome Gears of War. Try to elaborate since it makes for a more interesting read :D

The Do's

Lots More Theron Guard in Single Player
Whichever people wrote the AI for the TG deserve awards. Okay, its not perfect, but that fight on the Emulsion rig was one of the most intense and unpredictable firefights in the game. In fact, in my opinion, its the hardest part of the game. More of that PLEASE.

More Fantastic Script / Voice Work
While the story wasn't clear for those following it before the game was released, I think the script was IMMENSE. Some of the lines were hilarious
"Yeah, like two a*sholes on their first date", "There's plenty of room, it's a f***in party down here" to name just a couple. More of the fantastic voice acting and brillaint script work and I'm a happy man.

More Boss Battles, Harder Difficulty
One word stands out to me for this part: Corpser. I defeated that thing in less than a minute first time on Hardcore. Literally, as soon as I found what to do, I nailed it before the exploding wretches even turned up. The boss battle seemed like it was going to be epic, but it wasn't. If they're not harder, I at least want them to FEEL harder and longer.

Party System
We definetely need one - ranked matches all too often have quitters left right and center. To counter this, follow in the footsteps of Halo's party system and have the system match players of the same amount (ie. 4 player team matches with another 4 player team, 2 player team matches with another 2 player team then fills remaining slots with randoms) and would also eliminate the boring lobby waits that plague Gears online.

The Don't Do's

Don't Increase the Player Count Online past 5v5
Yes, I would definetely like to play with more people on Gears. Would it suit? I don't think so. 5v5 would probably work, but Gears has always been about working as a team, outpositioning and flanking, gaining power weapons ect... With the inclusion of more than 5 players aside, I think it would start feeling WAAY to large - don't get me wrong if Epic go past it I trust them, but even Halo and CoD4 are generally teams of 4.

Don't Change the "A button does everything"
I couldn't see this being a change anyway, but I would NOT like to see one button does everything changed. It works perfectly, barring a few minor glitches here and there, and is essential to the GoW experience.

Don't Ship the Game with Host Advantage as present as it is
Personally, apart from in cases with the lancer, host advantage doesn't really affect/bother me. The only reason I would like this gone really is to shut up all the whiners and people on LIVE who want to blame every little thing on host advantage (even when your not host). I've even had people shout "ITS ONLY BECAUSE YOUR HOST TEAM" down the mic, saying that the host team all gets host advantage.

---
I have alot more Do's and a few more Don'ts, but I'll post those up later when my wall of text begins to crumble ;)

a great list. Much better than the MLG does and don'ts.

Theron guards are amazing, and the imulsion facility fight is one of the best in the game
I agree that the corpser was a load of trash, I would prefer more boss battles like RAAM or the Brumak fight on PC.
I agree about the A does all but some people (especially on the pc) would prfer seperate buttons, so if you were given the option to change it, if not meh.

I gears 2 is have as good as gears 1 I will be happy

Brumak was a slight letdown to be honest. The first part (where he's coming towards you when your in that building) is awesome but you don't even have to shoot him for him not to kill you - just kill the surrounding locust and the script kicks in and blocks the windows in. That was kinda dissapointing since it seemed so awesome. First time through though, I didn't go for the locust and it was waaay kickass.

Second part was pretty intense but it just didn't DO enough. It was like a big moving target but it was still cool. The boss battles just need more depth, y'know?

BTW, can you link me to the MLG do's and don'ts? Haven't seen those! :)

I hope GoW2 includes a Jurassic Park-style, Brumak-chasing-you-whilst-sitting-backwards-screaming type act. That'd be sick.

That's already in the game but on an awesomer scale. Lemmie copy this quote from the scans I have. (I would buy the magazine but it's not readily avaliable in the UK, and unless Epic have shown another UK magazine the same, I can't get it in physical form :()

As seen in the second level of Gears of War 2, Assault. The sun-dappled pine forests are in stark contrast to the roiling convoy of human machinery as it rolls up the pristine mountain pass. Fenix and his squad stand atop their massive wheeled transport. Dizzy, the driver of their derrick, is shouting curses over the roar of the engine. As a breathtaking valley vista opens up to the west, the first mortar slams into a nearby derrick, leaving behind a flaming husk. The flying nemacyst and their explosive assaults are only the spear point of the Locust defense. After some near misses, the derrick tumbles off the dirst road and stalls. An emergence hole opens up nearby and Locust infantry begin to pour out. Firing wildly, Marcus and his team push back the assault. Even as Dizzy gets the truck running, a Brumak appears and gives chase. Crashing headlong throught he cracking and snapping trees, Dizzy forces the derrick into high gear, even as the transport across the way is overrun. Leaping from their new attack platform, enemy troops attempt to board, and Marcus rushes out from cover to curb stomp the assailants. Ahead, in the distance, a narrow bridge stands, wide enough for only one vehicle. The Locust driver sneers and speeds up his derrick as the drop into the gorge up ahead looms large.

Looks like EPIC knew what you wanted!

I really love the Curb Stomp.
Its one of the best features in the game

I was thinking just to have a little variety, They should expand on the actions you can take on a downed opponent(All of which would be at random):
Throat Cut: Have your character whip out a knife, and finish them off.
Elbow Drop: A bit far-fetched, but it would be cool.
Pistol Whip: Just smash them in the back of the head with your weapon.
Neck Break: Says it all.

Theres probably alot more you could think of, but thats just an example list.
I know animation time would be a concern, but the Curb Stomp takes a while.

Anyways, just an idea.

heres a link to the mlg dos and don'ts thread. But I suggest you don't read it as it just turns into a big argument

about the downs. All of them sound good but haven't we already got "pistol whip" when you just hit the enemy or are you just thinking they should add an animation

Thanks man. Personally I think that list isn't ALL that bad since most of it is how Gears is now, but to want "reliability" is ubsurd - the guy seems to think your shotgun is SUPPOSED to always one shot explode people close range. If you look on the manual or on some of the loading screens of the game, it says it has a "chance" :p

The only thing about the Theron Guard that I really disliked was how they could so easily force you to replace the situation from a lucky shot with the torque bow. That and having to restart so far back from the fight. It's bloody ridiculous.

Yah, but at least you could take cover from them. The only thing I disliked about the locust AI across all types of Locust pretty much, was the rush round cover on Insane. It makes sense, it's good, but I feel like the one hit melee should go, or alternatively the shotgun should instant kill more in single player at that range - otherwise your pretty much stuffed.

I think the active reload one shot down should go on the sniper, it's annoying.
