How do you increase multiplayer numbers? This is so simple. It has already been mentioned in the past, yet there is no news about it happening anymore. The answer...............cross-platform. PC vs PS3 vs Xbox 360. There are mutators to increase console games to the same speed of the PC, so epic can easily update the speed of the game with a patch. There are servers you can filter for mouse support, so everyone is on an even playing field.

Also, this creates buzz! There is no buzz about UT3, I don't see it mentioned in any magazine anymore, where halo and call of duty 4 are mentioned in any gaming magazine I read even at the present time. Cross platform would create a lot of interest. Also, this fixes the problem of going cross-platform to begin with, since you split up the online community. Once you get steady numbers, word of mouth will get out and then even more players.

Why does it seem that everyone understands this except Epic? It is not like you have anything to lose, only to gain?

i agree with you! but will be there problems, allways, just because were talking about 2 different systems!

what could save ps3 online multiplayer is being able to host a dedicated game from a pc, and play it on ps3!! this is my opinion...of course we need some real anwser from epic games!

guys its been asked about by ps3 people and was shot down, Frankly, epic has stated while it is posible the brunt of the pc community doesnt want to be involved with the ps3 community. So epic has spoken. Its a NO.

Also keep in mind they close a lot of forum threads about this

That was Epic's original intent, the cross platforming. That is why the PC version is the way it is IMO. Then as it came down to the end, Epic found that the were too many problems to actually pull off the cross platform. Now the cross platform compatiablity is even harder to pull off as the PC players were upset and Epic is now doing thier best to make them happy. This is driving a bigger wedge inbetween the cross platforming idea. In order to do the cross platforming the game have to be identical on all the platforms to work the best. As the PS3 players should now know with that whole 'Core package' deal before the patch.

Not sure where you are getting this information. The main reason they didn't have crossplatform from the start was because they didn't want to slow down PC patching to the speed of the PS3. But when i asked WarTourist if they would try it. He replied "Never say never". Elusive as always but at least the answer wasn't no.

Also keep in mind they close a lot of forum threads about thisDon't go spouting nonsense and untruths. Epic never said any such bs. Many people in the pc community would accept it IF it did not compromise the game for the PC side, but it is certainly possible and feasible for there to be choice, the PS3 users can choose to join servers with fast gamespeed or PC users can choose to join ones with low gamespeed. People who don't understand or want to accept it because of their own prejudices want you to believe your choice would be taken away by crossplatform. Anyone with a brain can see that the opposite would in fact be true. And for the record, the ship has already sailed on the PC version being compromised by the PS3 version.. so it's not as if this would hurt matters, only help them.

This is the situation as it is now: 400-900 players at any given time.
This is the situation as it could be after cross-platform: 5000 or more online at any given time.

It was just my opinion. I remember reading before the game was released that they were looking into the cross platform compatiablity. If they really were thinking of doing this then the games would have be pretty close to interact with each other, which they were at the start. Then near the end of development, Epic found out like you said with the patching for the PS3, and propably some other things, causing them to take another look at getting the cross platforming done. But like I said this is just my opinion and I'm most likely just blowing smoke out my ...

A third patch might help, but only if Epic starts to work on the community wish list, which is lost somewhere in this forum.

They need a new demo, no way should that beta be the last impression most have of UT3:(. WAR is addictive, demo this, give them the chance to get hooked:)

Honestly, there are plenty of empty servers on the PC version. Let's get some ps3 users in them.

I do not see this happening unless the pc version suffers.Consoles can't keep up and then there's the controller vs M&KB issue.I would love for everyone to play together (the more the better....usually) on a level playing field however there would be much sacrifice and tons of issues to be worked through and I just do not think there's any profit in it so I doubt it will happen.

How to save online numbers?Well I cannot provide much new input, but I can tell ya some people (especially those new to the pc or online gaming altogether) are judging the game by the beta demo as if that represents the actual game.

Even though these forums are wiped clean often, the word of problems, angry fans and customers has still spread and surely caused some impact.

Hopefully in time the game will evolve into something fun and stable.By that time the main streamers might have capable pc's and give it a look.Only time will tell so lets just hope for the best.
