Since the orginal Gears of War came out we havnt heard much from the EPIC team here on the EPIC forums. Can we and should we expect a appearance by GoW God Cliffy B (whose God Is Rein) and his army of EPIC developers?

Very likely. We still see some Mark Rein posts around here.

That's the thing I like about EPIC. They seem to listen. Take the survey on the front page - how many other games devs have you seen do that? I can't honestly remember outside of Bungie, but I think they only listen because of the ferocity of some Halo fanboys out there!

I always post here confident my posts are read by EPIC and could possibly be taken into account for their games. I'm sure we will see Cliffy on here. What would be nice is if there was a Chat to the Devs night for us forum members who are sticking around - maybe in IRC or something.

Saying that, before Gears 1 launched there was one of those wasn't there? I think I just remembered one, or I'm going crazy. One of the two.

VanderSpleen

there was one... actually I think there was a couple...Mark even came in one of them a couple of times to answer some basic Questions...I remember those days

Ya I remember when Gears was about to be released and was released they would be on here talking to the community. It's great to see they actually read and respond to what some people say.

Actually it's more likely a company wide rule that says employees should not comment on the official forums. It's usually to avoid slipping details that could cost a person their job.

Expect anything thats posted by Mark, Cliffy or anyone from Epic to run it by Epics legal and marketing team first.

Seriously, where are they? It's kind of getting lonely in here without our moderator's input. I know that they still have a presence, because threads still get closed, but we have not heard from them for quite a while now. Cliffy is hunting in Africa, but that's still no excuse for not being able to get on the internet and say something from time to time on these forums.

Good point. I'm sure in the future, once their marketing plan has played out and Gears is nearing release, they will come on and have a talk session with us like before.

Maybe thats why they aern't holding one now, except for the fact they are busy slaving away on Gears 2 of course :)

Last year it was around the 11th of July I believe. However, due to the big Sony hitters coming this year, I'm sure M$ doesn't want three months of silence and no hype coming from Gears of War 2.

I think we won't see any gameplay until E3, but we may see a new trailer or some previews in the coming months. The fact that just over a month after GoW2 was announced there was a preview in GI, it's pretty safe to say that will be the case.

Maybe. May was 2006, Gears release year. Last year was the toned down E3 at Santa Monica, in July.

:P No doubt. However, sometimes you guys just crack us up. Unfortunately, the time when you guys want the most from us is the time when we can say the least. There's all kinds of stuff that I'd love to talk about but won't be able to for quite some time. Just rest assured that we are doing good things and that we love this game as much (if not more) than you do.

Well there you go - proof of the Epic love to the forums. Darn you Microsoft Marketing Plans, Darn you!!! :p

I like to see posts like this though, just proves Epic are watching - one of us might inspire a good idea to the Gears team :) The only thing I would say is if we do get a "Chat to the Team" on these forums at a later date to us community folk, that it's to MULTIPLE members of the team - at the end of the day, Cliffy doesn't make the game alone.

Yes EPIC has answered my question indirectly! Thanks Joe. I wonder what/ who you guys laugh at. I guess it would be me/trooper/marth/waldo/etc... Still its great to know that our arguments sometimes make EPIC laugh. Im also glad you talked about how much you love the game because aside from me planning to name my kid Marcus Domination Carmine I think Cliffy B is the biggest GoW fan out there. Still it would be great if Cliffy B, Mark Rein and you guys could do a questions and answers day for the forums. It seems like the forums are always left out of the loop.

Dude, I've been to their village and it was amazing; totally not what I expected. While I was there I went ahead and bought a 10 dollar model of their village as a souveneir.
http://www.12back.com/playsets/ewok.jpg

PS: Cliffy is the gold dude, and the hanging rock is where they get all their great ideas from; just give the rock a few good rubs and it will tell you anything and give you advice. It told me to buy the 10 dollar model of the Gear's village.

Back on topic; I'm really glad that someone from Epic let us know that Epic is still here and that they are listening, or reading, what everyone has to say.

Hey Joe how does EPIC feel that there are some guys worshipping Cliffy B on EPICs forums? Are you guys jealous or laughing your ass off?

Worshipping someone that is in the public eye is just something that happens. Just like the people that say obnoxious things about him while having never met him. When I first met him, I was impressed by his presence and personality. He was showing what I call "public" Cliff. After working here for a while, I realized that I have tremendous respect for him. It's hard for people that only see the public Cliff to realize that he is a deep thinker, passionate about his work, and is genuinely a nice guy. My kids think the world of him and he has taken time out of his busy day to encourage my 8 year old on designing games. I think Cliff still has one of my sons' art concepts on his wall. How cool is that? He's a real guy that maybe shouldn't be worshipped, but absolutely should be respected.

I think that says a lot about his character right there, when you have people that work with you and they have a deep understanding and respect for you it tells what kind of person you really are. Cliffy we never knew you...

Well thanks Joe for directly answering my question. Thats probably the first time Ive ever had a EPIC mod ever reply to a direct question which does not imply a rumor. From what you say Cliffy B sounds like a great guy (he is becoming a God soon...) and not just in public but also in private. Thats what really matters because some guys act nice to the public but are assholes in person. Im glad Cliffy B is a really fun and easy going guy. I really hope I could meet him in person one day...much like you Joe do everyday. If I ever visit North Carolina I will try to visit EPIC games and say hi to you guys...actually that would be weird so if you invite I will.

I think the last time he got on here was during the last console patch and he pretty much put a smackdown on some of the people complaining about the Weapons Slide being removed. Well, I hope that I do not come across as worshiping Cliffy by making images which feature Cliffy, but I also hope that I do not come across as disrespecting him. If I thought that Cliffy, the Gears community, and the other people over at Epic did not get a laugh or two out of those images, then I would not even bother making them. Honestly, if Cliffy, a rep of Cliffy, or an admin speaking on behalf of Cliffy came in here and said, "Dude, I don't like you and your stupid pictures!!!" I would stop making them out of respect. In the mean time, I will continue making hair-brained theories and images relating to Gears of War and Cliffy.

We do. Don't worry Cliff has a good sense of humor and he's able to poke fun of himself. People misunderstand where the "Seriously..." achievement comes from. It comes from him saying "Seriously" a lot when he was on the G4oria show.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2XYf4zI-I4

I asked him if it was ok to use the "Seriously..." name before doing it, because I didn't want him to think I was being a jerk. It was all in good fun. The thing I find most funny about this is that other games have copied the "Seriously" achievement without understanding that it was reference to Cliffyphoria.

It's actually quite funny about that because every time someone unlocked seriously. I sarcastically replied in that exact same tone as on that video, I actually work with a lot women (Hospital) that also play the game and it's become a running joke on my unit, Seriously...

I personally think Cliffy needs to have an interview with this forum sometime, mostly just to joke around and interact with us. But I know he's busy with my most anticipated sequel of the year so that can wait.

I think you should tradmark that word... Cliffyphoria. That would be a amazing EPIC games deoderant like Axe. However while Its cool that you guys named it after Cliffy saying Seriously I think it is ironic that the Seriously achievement is the most hated achievement in the game. Still the achievement is legandary now so cliffy will always be remembered.

Still Joe it would be nice to see Cliffy on this forum again. I know he is busy making GoW2 and the GoW movie and the GoW comic book so Im not trying to push you to force him on but it would really be nice if we could have a "Questions for the Cliffy" day every month. Then these forums would get a lot more respect for EPIC (seeing how a lot of guys always post hatred of EPIC on here) because you guys would be commenting. Thats really the only thing people want is you guys to say Hi. Still im glad we have this conversation going Joe and hope to continue it.

I'm sure most people would have been completely confused, "Like what the hell is this?!" after unlocking Seriously and seeing Cliffy in a bunny suit. I think the entire forum would have been in an up roar because you get all these cool looking emblems for all the other achievements and after seriously you end up with Cliffy B, Hmm I think a lot less people would have been aiming to unlock seriously... OMG that would have saved me so many headaches dealing with the achievement issues!

about Mark Rein?

USRangerJohn
04-28-2008, 11:16 PM
They have patched it several times. My guess is they are done. Maybe EPIC could have a event where the objective is to find Cliffy B inside a room of Cliffy B clones in GoW. We could use the name "Wheres Cliffy B?". Then after beating the game you are given clues as to where the real location of Cliffy B is in our world. But instead of finding Cliffy B you find a note making fun at you for actually trying to find Cliffy B.

Its a mystery.

It is impossible for Cliffy to get laid, because no mere mortal could handle Cliffy; she would simply disentegrate and thus Cliffy must live the sad life of "no touchy, only looky." (with the exception of berserkers; they can handle it.)

This thread is about the return of Cliffy, so when Cliffy comes back, you can then ask questions about GOW PC, because for now Cliffy is not here; at least not posting. I feel bad for you GOW PC guys who can not get the game to work properly, because you are being denied a great gaming experience. However, asking "where is the patch," "why isn't the game fixed," etc a thousand times is not going to get the problem fixed any faster.

I love the look of uncertainty on Cliffy's face; it's saying, "Why do I have this thing in my basket again?" I want to watch E.T. now, and hear lines like "Beeeeee gooooood..." and "Ouch."

Also, Cliffy probably will never make an appearance on these forums because if he does he will just get bombarded with a thousand inquiries about Gears of War 2, and a thousand more angry threads and posts concerning Gears PC. Cliffy does not even post and there are already countless threads concerning Gears PC and Gears 2; could you imagine what it would be like if the community realizes that Cliffy becomes active on these forums again? It would be nice to see Cliffy again, but I do not think right now is the right time.

Good point. I'm sure in the future, once their marketing plan has played out and Gears is nearing release, they will come on and have a talk session with us like before.

Maybe thats why they aern't holding one now, except for the fact they are busy slaving away on Gears 2 of course :)

i hope so, thats would be sweet:)

Sometimes that must be annoying when Joe might ask hey I have a question for you Cliffy and he is like Well do you think *insert famous actress* butt is big or something of that nature. We shall see them later this year, they are working their asses off making this game happen. When thigns start to settle down, they will communicate with us.

Things don't settle down later in the year! Not until the game has gone gold and starts being made! They are probably in "Crunch" right now (though it's a tad early, but I'm not a games designer so I'm only guessing) in preparation for E3 - they'll probably show a new SP level there, let the press get hands on with multiplayer and possibly single player plus it's almost a given they will have a new trailer - so it's probably very busy in Epic right now.

And then they'll have another Crunch before the game ships (think it's a month before? Maybe more) which will be around late September - late October (since the game needs to be made and put onto disks, the game has to be finished a good deal in advance, especially with a game as big as this one will be - Halo 3 went gold a month and a half in advance).

So somehow, I doubt we'll see alot of them before November :D Some people (JoeGraf, FuFu, Flax) all post anyway though. Who knows, Cliff might pop on to say Hi again. You never know. Personally, I'd like to see where Mr Rein has gone!
