Update your audio drivers.
Again with the spoon-feeding...
Depending on whether you use a seperate PCI soundcard or just your onboard motherboard sound, you may run into some difficulty. I've noticed that some updated drivers for motherboard sound actually conflict with the OpenAL translation layer (what the system uses if you do not have an OpenAL-compatible sound chipset). I would check in the device manager to see what chipset your motherboard/soundcard is using, then try to get drivers for it from that company first. If they don't offer them, that's when I'd go to the motherboard/soundcard manufacturer's site. The reason I say this is oftentimes motherboard manufacturers will write their own drivers for onboard sound that are different from the sound chipset manufacturer's drivers and they might not take into account some things.
If updating the drivers doesn't work, you might want to look at reducing the number of things your processor is doing while you're playing GoW. When working with sound, things running in the background can cause buffer overflows which create a crackle and sometimes distorted audio.
