This is the final beta of Headquarters,unzip the file in the custommap folder of ypour game and launch the "P" map. This map i just a final beta. The difficult is set to very easy to enjoy the map and look for bugs. Please review it

Here is Headquarters, my second custom map. It will be an undergrounded facilities such a military secret base or something like that.

Now i´m developing just the map without covers or kismet instructions coz i want to try level streaming to achive real checkpoints at this map.

Main concept:

At the end of "City of War: Ravensearch" you reach an elevator wich is going nowhere. There is where Headquarters starts. This map will be alone player with some puzzles that i have in mind.

Hey maverick, thank u this maps I think its totaly diferent. Maybe today or tomorrow I upload a "Walking Only Beta" to review the map.

Wow man these are great maps! How does a SP Map work in Gears? Do you have the Locust creatures scripted or something? Would you consider mapping for UT3? Your skills would definitely be appreciated by the Unreal community.

thank u AnubanUT2. I´m very happy to hear this. I learn all the kismet functions by myself and Is like a drug I like it a lot. Sp maps works at the same way like MP maps. Only know How about kismet is needed.

Becouse of my work I have "skills" of programming, Mechanicals, lighting and I spend a lot of time playing with these games.

If u think that this maps are good wait for the beta of Headquarters maybe u increase your mind.

Hi, i played it and i have some comments:
First, you have a broken brush or skybox. Here is a screenshot:

The Map looks good but it doesn't feel like Gears. I think the "street" and "city" theme is much better for Gears of War. "Headquarters" doesn't have much of "Destroyed Beauty" Feeling.
In some rooms, especially with the rock walls you need much more detail, there all look the same and don't have the beauty detail of "City of War".
In most corridores and rooms you didn't have room for cover, i don't know how this would work in the final map.
Please take my comments not to seriously, i hope you can use them.

Well, I know maybe that is not gears for u but this map follow the sense of my trilogy and by the way this is the meaning of "Custom Maps".

The meaning of this map is a abandoned Headquarters, no details now but I have in mind a lot of amazing details.

As I said above this beta is only to review the desing and take all the comments of you. No covers, No AI, No kismet.

Ofcousre there isnt details coz I´m not in this fase. No worry, Headquarters will be better than City of War.


And please you are welcome to say all the constructional advices that u want to do

If it were up to you people would still be drawing stick figures on cave walls because you hate the thought of art changing or progressing in any way

I know this is a custom map forum, i was only expressing my opinion.
I think theinterlock does very great work for the community and his maps are awesome. This was only my first impression of his very early map and of course i will play all of his maps.
I'm very sorry if i offended someone with my comment.
@The interlock your first map was awesome and i really seeing forward for the second chapter of the trilogy.

When you trilogy is finished, will the player be able to play all three maps in one session, like a mini-campaign, or must each map individual opened with the console?

Well, I was all the last weekend trying to make the checkpoints and level streaming works but anything works. and this is very annoying coz without this play at my levels will be hard coz always restart from the begining. Maybe one day SOME ONE FROM EPIC TAKE US IN CARE AND RELEASE AN OPERATIVE CAMPAING EDITOR, sorry for screaming but...I needed.

Yes I was very interested about you trying to get checkpoints to work and I thought it made sense that it required level streaming for it to work. I thought of a possibility that is rather crappy but it is better than nothing. That being to release two or three versions of a map, each with the playerstart in a new place (where you would have the checkpoint originally). So for example I would release my map containing 2 map files, one being nergal and one being nergalb. Nergal would contain the entire level and you could play it from start to finish without checkpoints. However if you died half way through, you could load up nergalb which would start you half way. It is a pretty weak alternative to check points but I am thinking about it.

I spent a lot of hours reviewing all the scripts of epics game and fact its seems clear how to doit.

First you place an warfare.interestpoint in the map then you link to one previous scripted resource called warfare/whatever.

There is the problem I think. Its the same for the objectives advices.

Then when you place a check point and try to use it the game crash.

I´m finishing rightnow the final area. I´m trying to do a first script the next weekend without details an after add the cutscenes and all the decals.

I think that i need at least two weeks more.

But no worry I will update with new improvements as sonn as I can

I've been running around now for awhile and I like much of what I see. Looking forward for next version.

There is some places where the map isn't finished and I don't look close on those parts now. When a new version comes, ill look into it.

Map is unbelievable, its well scripted for a beta and i like the little spurt of action sequences, i think if you can incorporate a small little info on how marcus landed at the HQ this will be Stella.

hey interlock i just downloaded your other Map SP_CIty_Of_War: RavenSearch (Which is another amazing Map) and i find im having the same problem with the floor textures not showing up? it looks to be the lighting or missing floor textures as its showing all black..
(My Specs are fine q6600 and 9800gtx+ & 4gig ram)

ill post some pics of the problems and some more feedback.

Hopefully you can get these fixed, quick question most maps are 1 single combined file but with yours its a couple of them does this cause any problems as i have them all in my custom maps folder

Well, thank u for your post. I don´t know why this happens because all the map was rebuilt to be cooked before upload. I already know these mistakes.

I will try to fix but I guest that it will be impossible.

About the beta, is more or less at 90% and I´m planning to joing Headquarters with Ravensearch to give sense to the history.

It May Be From Cooking It Without Dx10 On Or At Low Resolution Try Rebuilding The Map At 1280x720 Or Higher With Everything Set To High And With Dx10 On IF You Have Vista.Then Try Cooking It Again... Hope This Helps

I did some test with the map in high resolution and finally I got the same mistake. Normally I set all the parameters to mid level to increase the game experience but seems that when I built the map was built with this options these mistake appears.

I´m trying to recoock the map with this high settings.

awesome job man,

hopefully it all works out i just played through HQ again today and i have to say you created a awesome atmosphere, it actually feels like it was a COG base before and that something went terrible wrong with a locust invasion. and the small cinematic experience with the doors opening,computer screens and storming wreches are crazy.

OMG!

This Maps works flawlessly now
(No hicups what-so-ever black floor now gone)

i absolutely love the atmosphere in this map, the quality is through the roof! it felt like playing Gears of War 2 thank you theinterlock you have talent. i love the small things like able to shoot some of the environments (computers screen) are a very nice touch the wreches charging at you through the corridors give it a spooky feel as the corridors are claustrophobic.

ok il give you my honest feedback (HQ is my favorite map of all)

the start of the level is very well paced and it leaves the player with a earey feeling :P but up until u get underneath it feels different, the backtracking imo is great as it extends the time you spend with the map but i think more text and dialog is needed for more direction.

it took me a minute or two to figure out to go bak upstairs, but i didnt know i had 8 control points to find you should communicate that at the begining or during the mission with text/dialog and focus points. lol sometimes players need to be dummy trained the first time through :P lol

some locust die to easy where some are harder which i like :P more checkpoints will be nicer it starts to get a little choppy downstairs with the frame rate. i think that it is a awesome to finish with a big fire fight.

i didnt know about stadium till now i think it looks great and joining this with headquaters will be unbelievable as you could join the two together.

also i just wanted to add on great thing about HQ is the cover placement, its perfect! i always felt i had good cover and a good angle on the enemy. with stadium if your looking for beta testing get back to me.

Hey Interlock. I am missing lighting in-game. Because of this I couldn't find one of the terminals and had to stop :(. Do you have this problem?

The ambient sound is great! The audio during the battles at the beginning might be a little too chaotic if you move through the level quickly though.

I feel like the changes in the AI health can be confusing sometimes. This is not a bad thing, but it does feel strange compared to the campaign.

I did see framerate spikes in a few pockets especially near some of the small corridors, but it is still playable. :)

Thank u for your help, I ´m trying to fix this lighting errors. My nvidia card has a extrange behaivor. Sometimes If I set all the video options to max the editor crash and dont let me rebuild. maybe here is the mistake

the lighting is messed as the floor is all Dark i didnt have a problem with this in the other version (High Res) can you fix this as its unplayable like that with all the tight hallways

Any updates will come until April. I´m outside home due my world tour. 3 month out.

I´m taking a lot of good ideas from around the world, a lot of pics of places to cre<te new worlds in GOW.
