On March 20, 2007, it was announced that New Line Cinema had purchased the rights to make a Gears of War film, with Stuart Beattie writing the script along with Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, who will be producing it. The film is scheduled to be released in 2009. Producer Wyck Godfrey said of the film adaptation, "I'm not a gamer, but what blew me away about Gears was how it captures the mythology of a war mission and how high the stakes are. It has been announced in the May 2007 issue of Game Informer that Cliff Bleszinski (lead designer of the game) will be the executive producer of the film.On August 3, 2007, AICN.com reported that Len Wiseman was to direct the movie adaption of Gears of War'.

Gears Movie still a Go!
CliffyB has been talking to the media about the status of the Gears of War movie again, which is something we are always very happy to see. The good news? The film is very much alive (despite the writers strikes it seems), so he tells Cineplex Entertainment (http://www.cineplex.com/Spotlight.aspx#GearsMovie):
“We are currently at the point where we have had a couple drafts of the script and now we are talking to different directors and trying to feel out who would be the best fit for it,”
“It has been a really fascinating process to learn how Hollywood works. […] I just hope that whatever comes out of this is compelling entertainment and is very representative of the ‘Gears of War’ universe.”

"'Cliffy B is involved, it's not gonna' suck!' Oh, well no pressure, then." :p
Good to know. It was announced a while ago, but it seemed to have gone the way of the Halo movie for a bit. It transferred directors, I seem to recall there were similar funding issues...
Good to see it back in progress.

Yeah most people knew this, but I'd like to say starting off with Wikipedia as a source is gonna get flamers up your ass in an instant. Most people have something against it because it seems Wikipedia is always written by someone who purposely put in wrong information. And this movie is gonna be good, as it's New Line. They aren't gonna be retarded about the budget like certain other studios with the Halo movie because they will hopefully be smart and realize how many people will go see it. I know I'm definitely seeing it at least five times. I can't wait for this movie

Well, typically you don't want to get "flamed."
"Flames" are overly negative posts usually written solely to insult or degrade someone or something. If you want flames, just make a topic that says something exaggerated about something people like, or just something offensive. This is typically called "flame-baiting" and will likely get you banned.
To avoid flames, just be understanding and mature and find a way to express your opinion about one thing without insulting something else. There is no way to guarantee you won't get flamed, as many people will flame for anything, but as long as you respect other people's viewpoints to the extent that they're respecting yours you should be fine.
..........
Suppose we'll get another "script leak"? Could be a good marketing gimmick to "leak" part of it closer to release...

Much like the original poster, I'm quite the noob as well in regards to this particular subject. Earlier someone had mentioned a trailer for this movie. Is there one out yet? If so, any links to it?

CliffyB talks film
October 4th, 2007, posted by admin | Digg This GameDaily have posted up an insightful interview with Cliff Bleszinski, inclined towards the development of the movie. It covers the movie’s story-telling and script writing by Stuart Beattie, R-ratings and the cons of casting wrestlers as the main characters. I’ve extracted the highlights below, for the full article click the link above! Thanks for the heads up John!
BIZ: What’s it like working with Stuart Beattie, the man who helped turn Pirates of the Caribbean into a Hollywood blockbuster?
CliffyB: Stu is amazing to work with because he knows Gears inside and out. He beat the game several times and he was hooked on multiplayer. You go into these Hollywood meetings and expect a certain type of Hollywood people, many of whom I’ve met. […] He respects the franchise and he’s a fan of it. He also knows how to write a compelling movie and adaptation. […] I think we have a really great script and now it’s just a matter of getting the right director attached and making sure it becomes a “AAA” blockbuster movie.
[…] The fact that Gears is an M-rated franchise and involves people getting chainsawed in half, it’s got to be a pretty f***ing hardcore movie.
[…] I get a lot of forum posts where Gears fans tell us we need to cast this wrestler as Marcus. I don’t give a f**k if the guy’s buff or six foot five. What matters most is that this guy is charismatic and he can act and is somebody compelling that you want to watch on screen. […] What matters is charisma because you can’t fake that. […]
CliffyB: We shared every detail imaginable with Stu on the franchise as far as the story bible and all of the secrets that everybody wants to know about what went down in Gears of War. […] He knows the underlying themes of the franchise and all of the underlying motivations of each of the characters. That’s fuel for the screenplay that he’s written.
[…] New Line, having done Lord of the Rings, they know how to back a very risky but also a potentially very lucrative franchise and make sure it’s treated with the respect it deserves.
Yet how charismatic do you have to be to shoot a gun and blow **** up? Yet hes leaving out the guy looks just like Marcus.

Yeah I agree, no wrestlers...I am still in favor of Mickey Rourke (Marv from Sin City). I know he is getting older, but he is the X-bad boy of Hollywood and he is an award winning actor.

I totally agree! He would be perfect! Even though he is getting older, let's be real. Marcus isn't young.

Idk what'll be better though, Gears Movie or Warcraft Movie. Sure, everyone will defend gears>warcraft simply towards the fact that this is the gears forums, but seriously, both have pros and cons to them both based on their respecting companies and universes.
Gears'll be bloody and gore-wrenching, warcraft....I mean come on, you seen the lich king cinematic..freakin' A!
I pray it's not going to hell like the Resident Evil movies...the director's literally have the direct opposite of the Midas touch, whatever they put their grimy claws on turns that object into a heaping pile o' ****.

Anyone know who's starring in the movie! I'd very much like to see Batista as Marcus 'cus he's got the same appearance as him...I'm not sure about how well he acts 'cus I've not seen him act but if he's as good as the Rock then I'm down wit' that! Lester Speight would be great for Cole 'cus he's hugely built and does Cole's voice in the game and has a good appearance as him also. Good ol' Ryan Reynolds would make a good Baird or possibly Josh Lucas 'cus the stuff I've seen him in he seems to have the same attitude as Baird! And last but not least my favourite character Dom should be played by actors such as Carlos Bernard, he may not be built for the appearance of the game Dom but he's a talented actor and looks like Dom himself, Frankie G would be cool 'cus when I saw him in SAW 2 he reminded me of Dom and maybe even Oded Fehr could play him 'cus he's a bril' actor also and has the same features or my personal favourite, Scot star Gerard Butler because he's flippin' awesome and of course Scottish like myself and to see a Scot, especially Gerard Butler to be playing Dom would make my life complete! R. Lee Ermey the legend should play Hoffman 'cus they're both annoying! Jason Scott Lee would make a cool looking Kim or even perhaps the Rock 'cus I mean come on, he ROCKED in DOOM! Carmine I think should be played by no other than Doug Jones who played Abe from Hellboy and the Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four and he should be voiced by Steve Buscemi 'cus I love his voice and Carmine was quite coll and deserves a cool actor to play him and a cool actor to voice him! Anya, now she should be played by a sexy actress such as Jessica Alba or Charlise Theron, maybe even Jessica Biel! I've not got a full cast list of the Gears of War 2 cast so I don't know that if they'd even make an appearance in the movie but you never know what they're going to be doing with the movie but if they star any of the new people, let's hope it's a great cast :D:):p:o:rolleyes::cool:
Santiago3000
09-12-2008, 04:47 PM
Oh and even Jensen Ackles would make a great Dom 'cus I mean come on, 'Supernatural' is a great TV series and he reminds me of Dom a bit and would play the part excellently...if that's a word but he'd be brilliant :D
