I am planning to buy an Xbox 360 Elite in September for GoW2 (GoW rocks!) and other Xbox 360 related games. Now the problem is about the technical issues of the Xbox and mostly about the RRoD. Is there anything I should know to prevent them from happening? What accesories to buy to help prevent tech issues?

The june issue of EGM has a 13 page spread on GOW2 and an interview with Cliif B. Who says there will be a PC version, but this time it will be the same as the one for the 360. No additional content like Gears1 for the PC.

Well, like some others, I look forward to the day GOW2 comes out for PC - I would anticipate a November 2009 release. Even though it hasn't been announced and if indeed it doesn't have exclusive content, it would be great if at least GOW2 could take advantage of the power of PC's available at the time of it's release.

It would be great that along with the traditional "Maximum" detail level settings, if Epic could perhaps go one further and add an "insane" detail option - which would be quite literaly for those with insanely high-end PC hardware for 2009/early 2010 period. This way, lots of people will be happy with the Maximum settings (as they were for first GOW) but this time round with "insane" be able to ramp up texture details and AA to crazy levels that could make your eyes pop.

I for one was pleased with the bump in visuals the PC version got and was able to run at 1280x1024xMAX on my now old 7800GTX which really impressed me with how Epic optimized their engine (and the game).

The updated engine I believe. I'm not sure if GOW2 will be the first one to showcase it, it's possible that Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway will. From what I understand, Gearbox is using the updated engine for its games (Hell's Highway, Aliens: Colonial Marines). I'm pretty sure i'm correct on that.

Cut the crap. It's not "bound to happen" - they've had a proper chip installed instead of the corner cut ones from late 07.

To the person who asked about RROD, it's not gone but it has been DRASTICALLY reduced. My 360 at launch lasted till the day of release of the Xbox 360 Elite, which I replaced it with (it didn't break, I just upgraded). My 360 Elite has yet to break.

The point is, it is apparent but I hear less and less of it as time goes on. Just keep it well ventilated (ie. don't shove it in some tiny space where it can't breath) and you'll be fine - the problem is the 360 overheats and the solder melts. The chip M$ made internally, while working, generated way too much heat and caused all the RRODs by solder melting on the connections.

So the best thing to do, now there are new chipsets in them that have been made correctly with outside supervision now, is just ensure it's well ventilated and it should be fine. It still exists, but it is nowhere near as common as it once was - don't worry :)

Well my biggest concern (and one that the more I read the more I think Epic is going to miss and make a mistake) is that the game has become substantially more difficult. Now that would be tragic. Gears of War had just the right difficulty imo ... Casual was more than hard enough for the average gamer (there was no easy mode in this game and casual was like other shooters Normal/Medium difficulty setting) and then if you wanted a challenge like Halo's Heroic level then Hardcore was perfect and Insane was great as a super challenge for the truly hardcore or two pretty good players playing together. I would hope that Epic makes sure not to forget the millions of people who are not shooter experts and who found Casual to be the perfect setting (actually one a bit easier would have been great as well imo).

Gears is fun on most difficulties. Although I'v beaten Casual with the help of guys through Live, I still have to beat Hardcore and Insane which emphasizes more on covering and then shooting.

Just bought it recently. So far, I'm in Chapter Three in Hardcore . Just doing the whole thing to get achievements. I have the PC version though.

It had an extra act and the highlight of it was the fight with the Brumak. It was not an Epic fight but it was cool. On Insane you will die a ton of times but still its not bad. The levels are pretty good and there are some big gun battles with lots of Locust.

I have to say after watching the trailer shipped with UT3 360 and reading about all the enhancements and additions this game has the potential to be the greatest shooter ever ... surpassing even Halo in popularity and maybe even sales this time around. I mean this game has it all ... a longer, richer campaign with greater environment graphics, more weapons, finishers, bots, at least 7 MP modes, the Horde gametype ... and noticeably improved graphics and effects (like destructible cover and chainsaw duels) and a greater variety of enemies. In short I just can't think of a game that offers so much ... I don't normally reserve games but this is one of those times I want to get it at midnight and start playing immediately.

I doubt it this time around ... I think MS was a little bit caught off guard and had already greenlighted the PC project. But now that they see how huge Gears 2 is going to be (looks like it could seriously rival Halo) I think this time they are going to string it out a bit longer. Plus I doubt Gears 3 will be ready in two more years. They probably won't do another version until the next iteration of the Unreal Engine and maybe not until there is a new 360 with even more power. I think the PC version will come out in 2 years this time.

No not in that sense. Gears 1 had to prove itself and wasn't an established franchise - and alot of people were still waiting to buy 360's for Halo 3 which was still the Xbox's flagship title even before Gears released.

Gears of War sold systems but they gave it to PC so quickly for two reasons. One is that Games for Windows Live needed more AAA titles on it's list. The second is that Halo 3 was coming out that same year - so where is the value of keeping the game exclusive when it could be used to bolster sales in a different area of Microsoft's buisness? They knew Halo would sell major amounts of consoles, so why not use it elsewhere?

HOWEVER, Gears of War is now an established franchise much like Halo. Thus, you will not see it on PC quickly if at all in my opinion. This game is the equivelant of what Halo 3 has done for 360 - while maybe not on the same scale, I've seen ALOT of people hyped for this who don't have 360's. And with the recent loss of another PS3 exclusive, we might even see some defections as well.

Personally, after seeing what Gears 2 is offering, Epic have the potential to make this far bigger than Halo could ever be (as much as I love Halo and the franchise as a whole).

I think that while it may prove to be the best shooter I doubt it will be bigger than Halo as a whole ... I mean lets not forget that the Halo tale spans planets and that there a whole lot more that can still be done with the Spartans and pre Master Chief .. as we will see in Halo Wars. Plus with all the Halo novels around and none yet on the Gears side (unless I missed something) its going to take a while longer for Gears 2 to be as big as Halo if it ever really can. Also the Halo v Covenant conflict has been happening far longer than the Gears story and also with the Flood there is a third element that is enemy to all and enriches the story even more.

There is just a ton of stuff in the Halo Universe and given how long it has been around that is too be expected. Now if Gears last as long then I do think it may surpass Halo but we'll have to wait and see as its only been two years that the Gears Universe has existed while the Halo Universe has been in existence for at least 7 years and if you count Marathon then even longer. Also Bungie and MS are not done with Halo yet and that has to kept in mind ... Halo has not just gone away. I think its just great to have two fun shooters that are different ... one is an FPS the other a 3rd person and that gives us 360 gamers some nice variety as we have arguably the two best shooters on the market as exclusive 360 IP. RFoM2 is cool and KZ2 looks like it is going to be killer but for me its all about Gears, Halo 3, and Ut3 (even though its not an exclusive).

For the same reason MGS4 is not coming to XboX 360. The most stupid thing in gaming that marketing can create: exclusives.

A better comparison would be God of War 3 not coming out on the 360 since its made by Sony's development studio. These are both 1st party games developed for their respective consoles in order to push sales so you will NEVER see any kind of Gears of War title on the PS3 as you will never see any kind of God of War (the original GoW btw ;) ) on the 360. I know lots of people say that MGS will never be on the 360 but since it is a 3rd party title you can never say never about that (like with GTA and FF and DMC).

I wouldn't agree with that necessarily. UT3 is really solid game with great tech and its the same (at the core) on all three platforms. CoD4 is also another fantastic multi-platform game. Haze is an exclusive and it is pretty awful ... so you can't generalize like that. It really comes down to the company and the development team. Some companies have the necessary resources to do such projects and do them well.
