View Full Version : Point balance (warfare)

I have noticed that the winner of the warfare tournament is usually the player who runs the orb and I bet that you have notices it as well :( . I think that the skills of the players do not matter when anyone knows how to press w, grap the orb and run it to the nearest node. Thats why I'm asking for an update to balance the points so anyone stands a chance to win the match. Thanks for this great game anyway  .

Imo it's not about the points in warfare anyways...

the winner of the warfare tournament
?
Warfare is a team mode, if you want to "win" on your own, i.e. by scores, go and play DM tbh. :P Orb running is one way to score fast enough, another is constantly building, healing and destroying nodes without the orb. I rarely use the orb anyway and still it's easy to top the scoreboard when you just focus on what the gametype is about - nodes (and don't forget about the 0.6 points per core hp).
Still the scoring system lacks quite a few things, such as points for healing team mates, killing enemy players near your nodes or additional scores for vehicle damage - things ONSPlus had, so we definitely need WARPlus. :x
The scoring is faulty, but certainly not regarding the orb.

Running an orb though also leads to a death a lot of the time because you're pointed out on the map and become an instant target for anyone nearby. Plus you can't pilot any vehicles. But as a clarification on points, do you know the difference (if there is one), of capturing a node with an orb rather than doing it the old fashioned way?

I dont think running with the orb is a matter of just pressing W.
Someone who actually uses the orb correctly deserves the points.
I have been in that many games where players seem to go for a picnic with the orb, wandering aimlessly round the map - or worst still just walking past the orb altogether.
Even more annoying is when vehicle drivers dont give u the chance for a grapple lift.
The orb is now the key to warfare, so the relatively defenceless orb carriers deserve the credit.

I thought you got more points from destroying and rebuilding nodes the old-fashioned way? It's true that the score isn't always a reflection of how much you did for your team, though. It seems to vary a lot with how long a match lasts as well.
But yeah, suggesting that successfully taking a node with the orb requires no skill is a bit ridiculous. Surely you don't think capturing flags is just a matter of pressing W too? Because delivering the orb to an enemy node has the same basic mechanics, with the disadvantage that you've got a giant beam of light marking your location and appear on the enemy radar within a certain range.

That's the problem with public warfare servers, it's not really a team game, it's just everyone doing their own thing while trying to top the scoreboard
Anyway i'm not a fan of the orb. It respawns way too quickly and dominates warfare more than it should

Capping it with an orb gives you 6 points, while just destroying a node with conventional weaps gives you up to 7 points... about the same score again for healing it. So yeah, more score, but you also need to invest some more time.

Who decides what it "should" do? ;D And no, don't start the old discussion again, there are plenty of threads about the orb where we can discuss it. :P

You could use the 'no orbs' mut if it bothers you that much. ;)

a person who picks the orb doesn't mean that he is doing everything. when u pick it, there r different techniques (based on the map and situation) in order to capture nodes with it.

i think the person with the orb has the hardest job...FOR CHRIST SAKES HES A WALKING TARGET.......plus it takes forever to get places without vehicles without the uberboard mod...regular hoverboard is so slow...n vehicle ppl come and then kapow...ur dead

I think Leo is right. Running the orb doesn't give you too many points, other acts give you too few. E.g. Tank Crossing: One person looping the orb every time will top the score board, but one person constantly on top of the enemy tank and turret or healing friendly tank will do good, but not great. But then again, you shouldn't really be playing for points anyway. It's not like your scores are tracked.
That's the problem with public warfare servers, it's not really a team game, it's just everyone doing their own thing while trying to top the scoreboard.
Why don't you come join us at the UMG League server or the PHX server some night. They're pubs, but many great players play every night, and we are team-players for sure.

Anyone remember the day when there was no hoverboard? You think no uberboard mod means it takes forever........

One way to combat this is to try to block you team's orb carrier. Hopefully an enemy will see this and help you kill him. Then you can grab your team's orb and get some points.

The guy who has the orb is usually the easiest thing in the world to kill. So it evens itself out.

The fastest points in the game isn't being the orb carrier, it's shooting the core.

I only play on pubs and I've found that most of the ones I play on (the ones you listed, some Epic ones and a few others) have decent people who play as a team. Of course you have an occasional AFK player or someone who whores the Nightshade, but I enjoy most of the matches. That Floodgate match last night was a world of fun, bclagge.
Also as z000z noted, if all you're interested in is points then hit the core when it's available. I've gone from the bottom of my team in points to the top just on damaging the core -- usually playing Onyx Coast where you can grab the UDamage (combined with berserk if you time it right) and hit the core from a good distance.

Board admins and himself? :P
Just pointing out that there are at least two other threads we could bump to discuss it again, so that we can keep this thread about scoring clean. :> Wouldn't say that if we all didn't how it ends when we start it again. I just wanted to do the thread started a favour. :x

But isn't "everyone doing their own thing" helping your team out? If they kill someone doesn't that help the orb runner or any members of your team. It Forces your enemy to re-spawn and keeps the road clear ahead. I see a lot of this while playing Downtown where someone takes a manta and goes to the enemy prime and either kills or slows the orb runner, which helps your guys get to the center node with an open map.
Thats why I love the public warfare servers, you never know what people are going to do.

I usually win. I guess I don't have anything insightful cause I've never had that problem. Usually won in ONS too, I guess they must be related.

ginsteri... now i remember this nick. they should cut points out of you for stealing vehicles so often. again, warfare is a team game. just try not to make your team mates angry from time to time and you'll be like you say "the winner of the warfare tournament"

Sure, you can tell from his post. He says "so anyone stands a chance of winning the match." So clearly he's competing against everyone for points, not to win the match. Hey guess what ginsteri. If you are a team player your team will do well and win and your chance of topping the score board is increased.
