View Full Version : Shade's Liquid Texture Samples (Slime, tar, oil, blood, water textures and more)
ShadeMistress

I thought I'd share these, since there is a lack of diversity in the liquid materials that came with the game.
Filefront Download: http://postdownload.filefront.com/13497137//b8a15e78bebc7a14d649d5004420f8d97decf496628930a515 27c498aef54ed19000fe774435895d
In here are COLOR, SPECULARITY, NORMAL, and OCCLUSION maps, as well as the original textures.
Contains different water, blood, oil, grease, tar, and goo textures so your map will no longer be confined to the few materials created for the game.
NOTE: You will have to convert the Texture Samples from 32-bit to 24-bit since UED doesn't do 32-bit color images. I was going to do this, but it should be easy enough to do yourself.
I generated the images in Photoshop, then made the extra maps with CrazyBump (get it at CrazyBump.com).
All images are 512x512 and are completely seamless.
Feel free to use them in your maps to make whatever materials you want.

It can handle 32bit TGA, if you need to import something with an alpha channel.

I reckon I might use that 'poland spring' in my upcomming map. Looks perfect for it. :D

Huh, didn't know that. These are all in 32-bit .bmp format, which won't import properly into UE4 for some reason.
I usually just load them up into PS and then save a 24-bit copy, but I'm pretty sure MS Paint would work just as well.

there was a custom map for ut2004 called cruciatus in which you would play the assault gametype in the pits of hell, crawling around through alternating areas of fiery lava and squirming organic rooms, the blood texture would work great for the puddles in the pile of guts the size of everest. anyone thinking of remaking that map really ought to consider making use of it.

I may start releasing little packages here and there of my texture samples. I think I have around 200, maybe more. And that's only counting the ones I have on my hard drive from the past couple months. I have years worth of textures on CD, I don't the majority of them have SPEC or NORM maps yet though.
Thanks for the comments guys. :)
In case you have downloaded the zip and hadn't noticed, the following texture had no maps with it... I forgot them, sorry.
Here they are:
Color Map:
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q117/hottingoth/GreenChemical_COLOR.jpg
Displacement:
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q117/hottingoth/GreenChemical_DISP.jpg
Normal Map:
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q117/hottingoth/GreenChemical_NRM.jpg
Occlusion Map:
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q117/hottingoth/GreenChemical_OCC.jpg
Specularity Map:
http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q117/hottingoth/GreenChemical_SPEC.jpg
I've usually used nothing more than just the COLOR, SPEC, and NRM maps for the majority of my materials and the effect is pretty darn nice. This is especially useful for terrain textures, since the number of texture samples plays a big role in how many terrain shader layers you can use.

Very cool stuff! If I can figure out how to transform these into UT3 materials I will most certainly use them for magic weapons and magic artifacts.

Here's some excellent Material Editor Tutorials. It's how I been learning stuff. Though I never actually follow any tutorial to a tee, I use them as reference more than anything.

See post #16 here:

There's a lava texture and a package too just to show how to set up the material in the Material editor.
Mind you, you'll have to create a new material in your map's package or the effect won't show up in game. But the material setup is really simple and easy to follow.

I try to import the texture on the editor but it said that the format is not recognize ??? I check the texture resolution and it's in 512*512 so I don't know why the editor said that ??? Any idea ?

Damn, how curious !? I import the SM sky texture without any prob and it's set in 4048*1024. IT would be odd that one set of textures would be in 32 bits & the other in 24 bits...
Ho well, I'll try to downgrade by MS Paint :)

Would it be possible to upload the lava material again too?
lol at a year later..
Alot of us using the udk need some more materials to make use of the new fluid surfaces!

Try Filter Forge (http://www.filterforge.com/) , it is plugin to create procedural seamless textures in photoshop and have standalone small app if you do not use photoshop. Size is about 10mb, 30 days trial and you can create your own filters to make textures. Very easy to use, full version has library of hunderts of different materials, all can be turned int seamless with one mouse click. I am considering getting full license.
Second option is MapZone, i think more powerfull than filterforge, but much more clumsy and does not have big materials library.
Third program you need for textures is CrazyBump, great for making bump, specular etc textures. But its trial only and quite expensive for full version when FilterForge and MapZone have this functionality built in.
Edit I may do some free textures soon ,but its a bit pointless because textures are actually bigger than program to create them.

Don't be so pissed man, this thread was four years ago, and FileFront becomes GameFront in late March 2011. I hope someone will have this one tbh.

Yea, because of the site's file hosting policy, one of your files on your dashboard (registered users) will be deleted after 180 days of consecutive inactivity. However on last July 19, 2012, it becomes 60 days now (it's getting screwed up for me ). That's why I moved to another file hosting site other than GameFront.
