View Full Version : How about some team balancing?

Take a quick look at my stats.

Super mega impressive, huh? So why the hell is it that in the last 20 or so games I've joined, I've been by FAR the top player on my team?
Every damn game lately has been so imbalanced it's entirely unplayable.
I'll be leading red with 25 pts, with second on about 16 and then the rest of the team on less the 4. Blue will have the top six or seven players in the high fifties.
I'm not one to bail on a losing team. I'll stick with it for as long as I am enjoying it, and well into when I'm not. And I'm not one to care if I lose a round, either. But dying so fast the announcer hasn't finished saying "PLAY" is just ridiculous. If I can at least get my ass out the door long enough to fight back, then I'm enjoying it. If our base is full of enemy vehicles mowing me down on the spawn points while half my team run around behind me trying to kill me with a link gun, then THAT'S unplayable.
Firstly, can the better players honestly tell me they get a kick out of winning 10 games 5 to nothing with no competition? Even when they outnumber the losing team 8 to 5? If so, zero respect, gtfo.
And secondly, what ever happened to the spirit of competition?
I'd MUCH rather lose a close game than win by a landslide. I've swapped onto losing teams before if the game feels imbalanced. I've NEVER tried to swap onto a winning team. But obviously, that's not an opinion shared by the majority :/
Maybe it's the fact that everyone seems obsessed with their rank...
Epic, when are you going to implement the option for admins to force some kind of team balance? I hope soon, cos if I'm topping my team's point list every round there's something massively wrong with this game.
The spirit of competition isn't gone o.0 And why are you even bringing up sportsmanship. It's a moot issue b/c either people have them or they don't.
What exactly do you mean by team balancing? If you want the teams to be even number of players, then thats up to the admin to set. If you want the server to use some method of changing players up when team scores are different by x margin, then you're only asking for more problems and complaints. People being forced to switch teams will more than likely end up leaving the server. My advice, suck it up and try out different servers, less complaining and blaming other people and more practicing to improve yourself.

Did you check the recent Patch 2 official content! (http://forums.epicgames.com/showthread.php?t=600148) thread. It has this little gem in there for you:
- Auto team re-balancing before map transition if bPlayersBalanceTeams is set.

Yes, soon this problem will be improved, but it can never be removed completely. If the teams are randomized every game then there will still be imbalance half the time, but at least it will be random.
faultymoose, sometimes I have the problem where I cannot switch to a losing team because both teams are full. I just have to sit there and listen to the whining until someone gets fed up and leaves. What gametype do you play? If it's Warfare join us in the UMG league server. Most the good players that play in that server will gladly switch to even the teams.

I think you misunderstood me. I'm not blaming bad players. Why would I? I'm hardly a golden example of pwnage, so don't throw this back at me as some little ***** fest. In fact, the kind of players who yell abuse at their team members are the exact people I'm complaining about.
I'm saying that when you're in a match where 8 good players are steamrolling - map after map - 5 beginner to intermediate players, what the hell is with people refusing to swap to balance the gameplay?
I'd like to see the option for admins to (attempt to) force player balance on a per server basis - not just numbers, but skill too. For those who wanted to play on servers where there was an attempt to keep the teams as competetive as possible.
I'd play on those servers, as would my friends, and some of them are way better than me.
What frustrates me is when you ask for people to swap teams and no one does. Sure, no one wants to swap to a consistently losing team, but when that team is so unbalanced that they can't even put up a fight, it's ridiculous. You even see people switching from the losing team to the winning team :/ Talk about bad sportsmanship...
It's like people who put God mode on to finish a game. For them the thrill is in victory, not in the competition. And it seems an unfortunately large number of players have this attitude.
I will always switch to a losing team if I feel I can help balance it in any way. ie. if I'm scoring in the top half of a match, and better than most people on the opposing team, I figure my switch will be beneficial to them. Sometimes it makes me think the 'better' players are only 'better' because they server hop until they find a strong team and then ride that team for points.
I don't care about my score for a round, it's about fun. And to be fun, it has to be both challenging, and competetive. Remove either of those two variables and it's no longer fun. I just don't understand how someone can define an easymode steamroll as 'fun'. Respect -1. And being raped on your spawn points is no more entertaining.
I was never a huge 2K4 fan, but I can say that I witnessed a far better "hey lets switch this up and give them a hand" attitude about the community.
And yeah, obviously this is just a big whinge because I just spent hours playing a game where I witnessed, amongst a whole hell of a lot of players, nothing more than a handful of good sportsmanship. Community suckage FTW.

Thankyou, that's great news :)
And for the first guy, you'll still get to play on your steamroll servers.

Good players swap when needed.Try some servers till u find one with players who like to play n not just win in no time.
A nice part of the game is when u get the:"Blue team sux big time" or a "stfu" when u try to ask 4 balance from players with 5-10 points(score) in the end of a map.:D

Unfortunately the Australian community is relatively small, so it's just a matter of being lucky enough to be online at the same time as some of the better (and I mean better attitudes as well as better game skills) players like eVeNfLoW, amongst others.
There ARE some great players out there who are really into the friendly competition that made this community so great (and so different from social cess pits like CS and Q3). You can tell they're the players who have been with the series the longest.
It's just horrible to see what has traditionally been a very relaxed and fun community get overtaken by a bunch of superiority complex jack offs who can't stand the idea of ever being on a losing team.

I'm almost fed up with the Aussie Warfare/VCTF servers. Can't get people to balance the teams, and all the hardcore players stack one team and flatten the casuals.

^ Yeah that was the nicely summarised version I was getting at :)
Hopefully we end up with a few servers with forced balancing.

Well, you can switch. Thing is, you have to switch WITH a player of the other team, i.e. you can only request your team swap and then hope that some opponent decides to click "change teams" too. Most players don't realise when teams are unbalanced or prefer whining without doing something about it, so you should tell people repeatedly to change teams... although it can be a bit painful to ask for someone crappy to switch with you. >_>

Im glad the new patch addresses this, as its getting worse and worse.
Better players or stats whores don't switch and new players don't know how.
Another reason the game is dying.

Well I use team balancing on my server
It works great It will keeps teams even. Also what I like is It switches users and the end of a game so you dont have the same people winning all the time
I use: TitanTeamFixUT3

It works awesome!!

Well, let's hope the patch does more than just even out the numbers. It needs to actually shuffle the players around, preferably based on score. But even random shuffling would be better than simply evening out the numbers.
