Not to start a flame war, but Gears of War is suppose to go up against the PS3 in November right? Thats gotta be something for Epic eh? But i want to hear your take on the PS3... what you think is right and what you think is wrong about the system. Cuz of course, Epic is supporting the PS3 aswell with other titles like Unreal ^_^
Personally i have mixed thoughts about Sony's next gen console. I've always loved the Playstation, in fact the original playstation had all most of my favorite games... and the playstation two had tons and tons of third party support. And yet... i really didnt like the original xbox that much at the time. In fact i had my doubts about the Xbox 360 until i bought one i December. But with the Playstation 3, I cant pin point it, but i think Sony's missed the mark. Games i've seen so far look like games on the xbox 360 platform, when Sony keeps saying the system can do more. But there is of course Gears of war which looks better than anything 'playable' to the public thus far. Like Metal Gear solid 4 and Final Fantasy XIII are great, but they just showed us a 'in-game' trailer. But the biggest problem is the price point... sure its Blu-Ray and its much cheaper than buying one regularly... but i get a console to play video games... on occasions i do watch dvd's but regular DVD's are just as fine. Atleast Microsoft is letting the gamer choose if he wants an HD-DVD player instead of putting in the system and charging $200 more.
Another thing i would like to point out. From when the Xbox was released, the average data space used on a game went from 2.1 gigs to 3.7 gigs in the xbox's lifespan, nearly doubled. I really dont think blu-ray for games is THAT nessicary as i dont see companies using like 50 gigs for one game cuz from what i heard, the technology is coming out to compress data even more... I dont know... personally if there was no blu-ray and it was $100+ cheaper i would have a bit better thoughts on it...
Also the controller... i wish they did a bit more with it. They did add that nice 6 degree tilt to it... but really the motion sensors was the Nitnedo Wii's anyways, but they took away the dual shock which totally sucks and just added one button like the 360 has (which i gotta say doesnt look that good on the controller)
Now the good in my opinon... Sony is well known for their 'exclusive' franchises, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid (well did make a couple appearences on Nintendo systems), Final Fantasy (another one that had was on Nintendo systems), etc. Just the name alone makes me think of all the good games. I'm a big Japanese RPG fan, so i like japanese style games like Enchanted Arms (which is coming out for the 360 yay), and older games like Valkyrie Profile (#1 favorite game of all time), and Disgaea. Most Japanese based companies will lean towards the PS3 only because they basically have a better relationship with them, and the playstation is more wellknown in Japan. That said, errr... well thats mostly what i got
Heres my basic thoughts on the PS3
Pros
- Good Japanese and third party support
- Free online gameplay
Cons
- Priced at $499 and $599 >.<
- Controller doesnt turn me on
- $499 pack doesnt include HDMI or Wireless controllers
- Not that many good launch titles (except for Unreal Tournament 2k7 of course :D )
??
- Will the Free online service be a big bust to Sony? (it does take ALOT of $$ to run servers)
- Will the Cell Processor really do THAT much for the PS3?
Personally I lost most of my hype during E3... im most likely going to get a Playstation 3... but not for a while. Really the price isnt THAT bad considering I bought my PS2 for $550 CDN and my Xbox 360 for $500 CDN.... Im so lucky the Canadian dollar is going up like crazy. hehe. But yea im gonna wait for system sellers. Metal Gears Solid or Final Fantasy will most likely be mine.
What are your thoughts? Did you go to E3 and Play it? if so tell us what you think. (please dont start a flame war i want to hear what you thought)
